Food is under par for the price. It checks off a bucket list but I would never go back. I would not recommend this place.

Tourist trap. This may have been popular in the 1970s, but it’s very old right now. The food was expensive for what you got and really wasn’t good. Pass on this one

$62 for some dry steak, small shrimp, half cooked potatoes, and OK broccoli. Meh. At least the $25 Mai Tai was good, albeit overpriced.

I am from tennessee, vacationing in San Francisco after a wedding. I had a recommendation to go to Tonga, partly because some friends had seen the Tonga Bar on line; it looked like a great place to spend an evening. Tonga room and hurricane bar was the biggest disappointment of my vacation. We had to pay $15 each as a “cover charge” for the band. The band was very low energy, they took breaks seems like every 10 minutes. The food was FAIR and VERY OVERPRICED. The cocktail was good ($25). Our biggest disappointment came with a group of about 5 teenage young men, ages 15 or so. These teenagers ran in and out the door, they wrestled on the dance floor, they created silly dances, they jumped on each others backs, they sat on the rails of the Tonga stage. To come away paying $150 for a meal and to watch teenagers wrestle and play during my entire meal was ABSURB. The ambiance of the evening was HORRIBLE. We did mention to the manager how disappointed and disturbed we were to have to watch teenagers roughhouse while eating our food. Manager stated “they are kids, what can we do?” “And they are our guests in the hotel”. I stated “ these aren’t kids, They are teenagers.” Management totally blew us off…we left being frustrated, feeling disrespected by management at our meal, and in shock that we had to watch teenagers roughhouse for two hours in our face at a supposedly upscale and high end restaurant. We totally do not blame the children, neither the parents; however at SOME POINT management should have stepped in for the sake of the other guests. Disappointed, waste of money, overrated, wouldn’t recommend to ANYONE, won’t be back

They don’t take bar reservations, so beware! I also got a horrible spot for viewing the live entertainment. I was behind a pole. Usually this is because I dine solo and I get treated differently. Food was great and the drinks tasted wonderful, but the drinks were way too overpriced. $25/$26 for a single drink. Just outrageous!

We have loved taking our out of town guests to the Tonga room for years - longer than I can remember since I have been going since I was a child. This experience was so disappointing. We paid $15 cover per person on top of the already outrageous prices for very very mediocre food. We were there for dinner and the band was so loud and missing the flavor and ambience that the previous group has always imbued. The music was so loud that it was IMPOSSIBLE to hear the guests on either side of me. We asked repeatedly along with at least 2 other tables of patrons if they could turn it down. NO was the answer. And it never rained - such a fun and quirky part of the experience so I asked and then they turned on the rain for us which was nice but what happened to the act? Terrible food, terrible drinks (the pineapple in my pina colada was brown and rottten and the kids drinks - now almost $20 were just soda) and terrible music selection for dining and TOO LOUD. So sad because this is such a SF staple.
