Southern
Located in the Renaissance New Orleans Pere Marquetta French Quarter Area Hotel, MiLa is a full service restaurant ladling cuisines of the Southern United States to the lodging and visiting gourmets. A bit of Italian touch, in-part French culinary—the fusion gives the traditional southern dishes a flavorful twist. The menu at MiLa is dominated with seafood, veggies and charcuterie. Popular items include roasted bread assortment, organic green salad, Colorado lamb, sweet tea brined duck, pearl pasta and parmesan salmon blue crab. There is also a breakfast buffet for the early risers. Priming the interiors is an upscale ambience profiled with a mix of navy-blue and timber theme. The coral of yellow-lit ceiling pedants in the background of blue provides a captivating contrasting illustration to the diners at MiLa. The restaurant also features a full bar.

The only thing wrong with our lunch was that we were only one of two tables during the prime lunch hour -this is a gem that needs to be visited! The service was great, and food excellent - my blackened drum was not overcooked, perfectly crispy on one side and perfectly blackened , but not too much on the other. The accompaniments were also very good. My dining companions enjoyed their entrees as well. I have recommended it already to anyone who will listen.

The whole restaurant was EMPTY!! There was other table when we arrived at 6:30, but they left, and it was empty at 7:30 on a Friday night. We went there before a show at the Saenger because the place next door was totally booked. So why is this place completely empty?

a previous review started out along the lines of the diners being leery of walking into the restaurant and there being no one there. that reviewer went on to say he had a nice meal. my experience started the same way, but ended much differently. 8:30 pm, friday night in new orleans, during jazzfest. ONE other party in the whole restaurant; no one at the bar. i wasn't sure it was open. we were seated and ordered wine. our salad was served before the wine ever appeared. soon afterward, we were informed they were out of the wine we ordered. the appetizer and salad were ok. we finally got our 2nd choice of wine, at which time the entrees appeared. my wife's fish was served hot and tasted good. my fish entree, including potatoes, was lukewarm at best. i requested that my entree be reheated. i should have been more specific because when it returned, the food was still lukewarm although the plate was too hot to touch. i returned it and it was removed from my bill. i should have known something was up when i made the reservation. as noted above, prime time on a friday night during jazzfest, and it was easy to get a reservation. now i know why that was the case.

I had a business lunch there in March 2016, 3 of us. Very nice atmosphere. Inattentive server. Two of us had pork loin, the 3rd in our group had redfish. I asked how the redfish was. . . ."I'd not get it again" was his response. The pork I ordered was overcooked, really dry. The beans that it came with were very good.

This is NOLA, so the standard for food is high. Alas, this place isn't there yet. I'd call it "barely adequate". I was staying at the hotel, and I had an early meeting, so convenience trumped other considerations. But, I wouldn't do it again.

I visited MiLa at the recommendation of a coworker who had enjoyed the food. The restaurant is pretty easy to get to and they validate parking inside the hotel for up to three hours. The ambiance and the decor is simple be very nice and the host is very informative. I decided to go with the Maple Pork Chop as an entrée while my guest had the steak. The food was good but the experience was negatively influenced by that lack of attentiveness from the wait staff. I had to ask for refills on drinks multiple times and also had to remind her to bring out bread and silverware. As she walked by I observed that she did not acknowledge the tables unless someone flagged her down. I'd be willing to try the food again but would get my order to go.

I used to really enjoy this restaurant. The service was very slow, the food was decent not up its former par level. It was the night before valentines day and there were only two servers plus a manager and no bartenders working the restaurant bar. We were greeted after about five minutes of waiting and were told if we wanted to drink we would need to leave the restaurant and go to the hotel bar. I've had many enjoyable dinners at this restaurant and was looking forward to another great experience for our special occasion. We had to ask for utensils multiple times and butter for bread. I would love to give this place a great review but this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. I was obligated to leave a tip and not cause I wanted too. Hopefully what we experienced was not a common occurrence but more due to internal issues with lack of staffing. The only thing somewhat saving this restaurant is that the food was decent and the price was low.

I ate at Mila about a year and a half ago - and it was awesome. Great food, great service, great ambiance. So when I managed to get reservations for NYE, I was ecstatic. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment overall. We were seated at 6:45, and we didn't finish dinner until 9:45, which was mostly due to the fact that we had to flag down our server to order most of our meal. When we did order, the entrees took an eternity to arrive. My date's short ribs were overcooked, tough and dry, and the potatoes tasted like they had been under the heat lamp for a long time. My red snapper was underwhelming, and the presentation was kind of a mess. The salad was blah, and the bread was cold and actually pretty stale. On the other hand, the charcuterie board was awesome and the drinks were absolute perfection. As for ambience: for the first hour the restaurant lights were pretty much turned all the way up, as if they never turned them down after preparing for service. The clientele ranged from rowdy, noisy college kids in flip-flops to well-dressed adults. No NYE-specific preparations other than 3 additional menu items. All said, I'm sure it was an off night, however in a city full of fantastic options, there is no reason to give Mila another shot.

Went to dinner before a show at the Orpheum.. Drinks were perfect, bread was delicious; the gnocchi was good. I had the blackened drum with jambalaya- very good. Another had the seared tuna- excellent; and another had the hanger steak- very good as well. Portion sizes were nice, not overwhelming, not underwhelming, just right. They got us in and out in the hour and fifteen minutes we had, overall a great experience. And the 2 minute walk to the Orpheum is a plus.

Despite a few mediocre reviews online, we placed our faith in MiLa for pre-LPO reservations. We arrived at the same time as another party that also had a reservation, on time and well before the show. There was no one at the hostess station and no one at the bar. After waiting several minutes in indecision, we encountered two employees rushing in to grab drinks from the bar. They ignored us. Eventually someone came and seated the other party. We continued to wait. One of the employees that had pulled drinks came to let us know someone would seat us soon. The other employee came to the hostess station shortly after, found our reservation in the system and seated us. We mentioned our hope to make it to LPO as we proceeded through the restaurant. We waited at our table quite a while before anyone came. When our server came, we ordered drinks and entrees while politely mentioning our symphony plans and a small concern that the ample time we'd planned in might be gone. She took our orders and disappeared for a long time. Drinks came. Later, food came, at which time we asked for the bill. We ate the delicious and beautifully prepared food as quickly as we could, signed the check and dashed for the Orpheum. While we thought the food was exceptional, the stress of this restaurant's lack of staff, leadership and initiative will strongly give us pause about returning.

The lamb sliders and the crawfish gnocchi appetizers were very good as were the pork chop and hanger steak entrees. The dining experience would have been better if our waitress had been more prompt with food service. It was an hour after we arrived before our entrees were served. Other patrons who arrived later and had other waiters/waitresses were served quicker, so the problem appeared to be specific to our waitress.

On many past occasions, I have made it a point to beeline to Mila upon arriving in New Orleans. Perhaps as they say all good things must come to an end. For the new chef at Mila leaves must to be desired. In a setting that is not a destination oriented place, lacking greatly in door and style the food must be outstanding to make it worthwhile to venture there. The food falls flat. Not one dish was better than a below average fast casual chain. Bye bye Mila

The food was great! Everything we ordered was delicious. Starting with the cocktail - French 75 and ending with the Creme Brulee, it was truly great. We ordered BBQ shrimp, fried green tomatoes with crab topping, Saltine covered oysters (fried oysters over a salad) and a special of the night mahi-mahi. My husband and I shared everything and enjoyed every dish. My only complaint is the ambiance. Or really the lack of it. We had a dinner on NYE and the restaurant was not decorated for the Holidays at all. Nothing. Anything would have helped, even if it was some confetti or tinsel. No special menu, no special cocktail, no champagne. It seems that there is no thought or effort that is being put in creating a welcoming environment or promoting the restaurant. With such good food, how are they not busier? They were half empty on the NYE, when it was practically impossible to get a reservation anywhere close to French Quarters. We booked it out of desperation and were very pleasantly surprised by the food. We just wished that the place was more festive...

Went to breakfast before the Saints game. MiLA is not usually open other Sunday mornings, I believe. Things started out fine but after we ordered our server completely disappeared. We were way too patient (nearly 40 minutes), finally had to get up and chase down another server. She came back and told us the typical, "your order is almost ready". It appeared that the orders must have never been placed. When the meal came out, the eggs benedict yolks were hard! Then our original server popped up out of nowhere and asks us how everything was!! She took 15% off the bill but I would suggest going somewhere else before a Saints game.

While doing quite a bit of research leading up to our trip, we came across a few reviews of MiLa in magazines that were extremely complimentary. When we looked up the menu on the restaurant's website, it looked amazing and we decided we couldn't pass it up. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed. We expected a creatively delicious menu with so many offerings we would have trouble choosing. Instead we found a fairly boring menu with two paninis and a burger and a few other boring choices and tried to pick between two options that seemed alright, hoping they would be extraordinary. They weren't. The food was alright, but we were expecting much much more and longed for the pan roasted sweetbreads, bbq lobster, squash blossom tempura, scallops, monkfish, and lamb loin we were hoping to get. Sorry to say I wish we had gone somewhere different that would have provided a more memorable experience.

This is good restaurant, but in a city with so much to offer foodies, it simply does not stand out. It is very pretty on the inside, but the food was merely adequate. My wife and I have had surprising success at other nice restaurants in working around her food allergies (wheat, dairy and soy). At other restaurants the wait-staff and kitchen seem keen to accommodate. Here the waitress, while very friendly, did not seem very knowledgeable about the menu from an allergen perspective (and did not speak to the chef). She brought a salad with cheese on it despite our discussion of the dairy allergy. I had the bbq shrimp appetizer and the pork chop. They were fine. Bread pudding dessert did not wow me.

The chefs' description sounded like a farm-to-table place with a distinct personality, updated regional family recipes, and so on. What I found was a slightly better-than-average hotel restaurant. I had a porkchop that was very large and very pretty, but with an unremarkable texture and flavor---overly-lean modern pork. The pureed sweet potatoes were fine, the sauteed squash overcooked. Visiting From Virginia, I thought I should try a Sazerac. It was watery and did not come close to one I had recently in a little restaurant in downtown Columbus. In short, I could have been eating dinner at a Hyatt anywhere in the U.S. The mission statement by the chefs set high expectations that the restaurant did not meet, at least on this visit.

My meal here two years ago was fabulous. Second time was a big disappointment. The dinner menu was nothing like the online menu. We may have been given the bar menu -- though we were seated in the dining room. The organic salad was tasty. The short rib panini was bland and was served with potato chips. We did not see our server until we needed the check. No one checked to see if we were enjoying the food. The reviews about inconsistent food and service are spot on.
