Contemporary American
Our main dinning room is where a colossal wood fired grill; oven and turnspit serve as the backdrop to our skilled craftsmen who take center stage assembling dishes steps away from your table. Simple grilling techniques, lightly charring and infusing nuances of smoke to coastal essentials and farm fresh ingredients are our specialty. Pretentiousness walked out the door here, leaving behind an informal vibe, where dressed down dishes reflect the integrity of the ingredients that were so meticulously nurtured by our purveyors.

Graze on small plates next door at Scarecrow’s Liquor & Wine Bar, or pop in to sample exquisite cocktails while enjoying our outdoor decks along Camden Park. Our more casual expression of our hearth room provides whimsical culinary delights that pair well with libations and conversation.

The place was a great change of pace and offered a unique menu. When my wife and I were undecided on orders, the waiter suggested dishes which complimented each other wonderfully and also suggested great wine pairings for our entrée and for our dessert. I highly recommend this establishment. I wish I could remember my waiters name but I remember that he was young, blonde, and looked like Spencer Pratt. He helped us have a wonderful time!!!

This was a late night dinner. The waiter said the night was their normal slow night of the week. Our waiter was a little over board in his effort to explain the menu. However this is better than no attention. Menu is unique and not for everyone.

Nothing short of amazing! This is a new Charleston gem. The food was both innovative and delicious, and the flavor let the quality shine. The servers were knowledgeable and pleasant. We especially loved the open kitchen concept that is reminiscent of the much loved Fore St. restaurant in Portland, ME. You owe it to yourself to try Scarecrow- a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. You'll thank yourself!

Enjoyed the decor, hearth, and watching the chefs work. Very tasty food. The short ribs and curry potatoes did not disappoint. Ordered three cocktails and was a little unimpressed. Although they were good, they were not as special as the 'liquor bar' name of the restaurant or the fancy cocktail photos on the website.

I took an out of town date to show off Charleston's food scene. He loved it. Loved watching the chefs prepare, loved the selections, loved the taste. We actually came back the next night with 3 more out of town guests, and they were also equally amazed.

Unfortunately our experience at Scarecrow was lackluster, to say the least. We ordered bloody Mary that were enjoyable but when our food came out, it went downhill rapidly. The herb fries were good but we're supposed to be served with a lemon aioli, according to the menu. After asking our waitress about this, she happily provided us with the aioli, but it was clearly just mayonnaise with green onions chopped up in it. We ordered the beef brisket benedict for our main course and the brisket seemed to be 90% fat, while the assorted mix of beans that made up most of the meal was too bitter to eat. We ended up sending it back. To wrap up our brunch, we ordered the beignets that ended up being undercooked by a good margin, but otherwise acceptable. Overall not a very good experience at all, though Rachel (our waitress, if I remember correctly) was a complete pro.

What an extraordinary restaurant! The presentation was exceptional. The combinations of textures and flavors was exciting (and delicious). It was an exceptional meal, well above average for Charleston fine dining (which is quite a statement, as Charleston has some amazing restaurants). This is some place to watch - up and coming for certain!

Great place if you are a meat lover. The atmosphere is very private and romantic and would be an excellent date spot. The prices are a bit higher but it is definitely worth the money. The drinks are unique and very delicious. There are a variety of meat options and veggie options but I would not consider this vegetarian or vegan. Look at their menu online first!

A hidden gem ! The open wood fired kitchen is like an exotic campfire cook out. Over the top for certain. Go for the food, service , decor , tiki bar after dinner and of course the chefs cooking right in front of some of the tables. Just a wonderful experience. Can't wait to try again and sample other dishes.

Food is excellent. One of the few nice restaurants with vegetarian entrees that are filling and satisfying. Expensive cocktails. Been twice and not many people seem to have discovered this gem. As a result you can hear each other talk. Probably a good date place for that reason.

Everything about our Scarecrow experience was right! The ambiance is perfect for a cozy dinner, and they have great cocktails and wine to choose from. Our server helped us navigate the menu, and we couldn't have been happier with our choices. The scallops, sausage, and cabbage are all excellent. The sweet potatoes, however, totally steal the show. If you eat nothing else, get these sweet potatoes! Double baked, with farm cheese and portabella "bacon", we would go back just for this! Great food, great service, great place all around.

From the incredibly creative cocktail menu to the service, decor and entire culinary experience....this place NAILED it. It's tough in Charleston to find a restaurant that really floors you across the board because there are so many fantastic choices. But Scarecrow was simply exceptional. Hidden on Ann St off the main drag of King, you walk into what feels like a cozy comfortable kitchen with vaulted ceilings, dark woods and tanned leather with the exposed fire and kitchen dominating the space. Everything about the first impression says this meal is going to be something to remember. Creativity is paramount at this place, while the directness of each dish makes you excited for the next course. We started with their take on pimento cheese with some blistered peppers....mouth watering. I had the NY Strip...cooked to perfection. My fiancé had the grouper....flawless. And the presentation of each dish was nothing short of pure artwork. A part of me wants this to remain a secret because I don't want to share this experience with everyone, but at the same time this is a place that needs to be shared and rivals some of the Charleston greats. Go. Eat. Drink. Spread the word. Scarecrow is here to stay.

This service the wait staff is fantastic the ambience is over the top and they're accommodating for anything you asked them for if you don't know much about wine like myself you can have Constantine is one of the owners take care of that for you. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone thank you happy dining sincerely Bruce

Creative, creative, creative...the food was creative and unique. Tasty too, I should add. In the creativity, which was welcome by the way, the flavors didn't entirely resonate with our group. Not at all to say it was bad, because it wasn't, some items were just, well, different. The duck breast was quite good, although perhaps mixing it with blueberries and chantarelles was a little too unique for my palate. My daughter loved hers though! The pork chop was to die for, and far more food than I could finish. The duck skewer appetizer surprised me an awful lot in my mouth, as it turned out to be gizzards and hearts, with some hefty lime juice. I didn't know it was the bits when I ordered it, and (sorry) can't recommend that one. The sides of rice with poached egg on top and green beans were among the best I've ever had. My son got the spare rib and positively devoured it, without sharing...I'm gonna call that one a win. We had a few glasses of really nice wine - a French white and a Spanish rose, and both were delightful choices to discover on the 'by-the-glass' list. Neat place, with lots of wood and a nod in the direction of steampunk without being overbearing at all. I would go back, for sure!

I'll start by saying that since they opened about 9 months ago, I've been here three times. After the first two times I raved about this place. So much so, that I took 7 of my closest friends out to dinner here the third time. The ambiance and design of this place is incredible, but we were all very disappointed with the food and service. The food was bland, tasteless, and over cooked. The server was very inexperienced and did not know the menu at all. He kept going on and on about the rules that the kitchen likes and how we had to put everything that we wanted in all at once so that they could get the timing right... emphasis on the timing, since everything is wood fired. Well so much for timing, after sitting for 40 minutes after placing our order with Brandon, we finally heard our order being called out into the kitchen by the cooks (everything is open here so you can see and hear everything... including how much the kitchen disliked our server). When we asked him why our food was just now being put in his reply was- "well I just now fired it." Again, I asked why, and his replay was "Per protocol, I cannot put the food in until all plates are cleared from the table and the apps are done bc they won't bring food if there is anything else on the table." Seriously? Per Protocol? I've worked in the high end service industry for 10+ years and I call BS. To make it worse after that his reply was "well, this is what happens when only 2 people order apps"... Even though we all ordered "Apps" and he put them in as side dishes. At this point I am just shocked. The meal came out and just wasn't impressive and his service continued to worsen as it got closer to them closing. It was like he had OCD for plates on the table... he wouldn't stop asking to take our plates even when we told him we were NOT done... several times even the same dish! With the right touch this place could be one of Charleston's top restaurants, but until then I will not return unfortunately.

This was our second trip to Scarecrow in 5 days. We really enjoyed the restaurant and food Sunday night so we decided to give it another try Thursday night before we left town for home. We loved it again. Clearly the kitchen is fine tuned and all the dishes are very well thought out. The finishes and open kitchen make it a fun place to eat dinner. A little tip. If there are 4 different ingredients on your dish, make sure you include all four ingredients in each bite, otherwise you'll be missing out on the tasty creation in front of you.

Very nice place with an interesting decor. Service was very good & the staff was on point. I question the menu options & food combinations. I feel they are trying to be too creative! The seafood meals were very small and would leave the average eater famished. With all of the competition in the area it shouldn't be the first choice.
