Had a great valentines dinner with my wife who is a foodie. We enjoyed everything that we ate. The wine was sparkling rose was not chilled, but other than that no complaints. Good service and the bread is amazing!

We went here for Valentine’s Day with the fixed menu - the oysters and the duck confit were fabulous! So tasty! The steaks and potato however (prime zabuton) were bad - there were some weird seasonings used that left us with a bad aftertaste and the sauce was terrible. But the dessert left us with a great taste in our mouths! We had the chocolate cake and the pistachio mousse. Our server was nice and attentive, and we were seated promptly. The drinks were alright. I would go again just for the duck confit, though!

Cool vibes and would recommend getting a drink upstairs at the rooftop bar! The food portions are comical. The “lobster roll” is a dollop of lobster on a miniature dinner roll and the wagu is definitely not wagu. Our waitress was nice and our drinks were weren’t bad, but nothing to write home about.

When we arrived at Mama Shelter downstairs for our reservation at 1PM, we were told that this dining room now closes at 1PM and the only seating for lunch is on the roof. Not sure when this changed, but the downstairs used to be one of my favorite places for lunch. Roof was HOT, too sunny, not enough shade and music was LOUD. So can't really see this being a place for business lunches again. Also, what is with the no serving of coffee? We were told that, as it was the roof, we couldn't have any - coffee was only served downstairs, which is CLOSED!

Mama’s shelter is a hidden gem. We started our night on the rooftop with drinks on the oversized couches with a view of the city. Then we went downstairs for dinner. Our party of 6 ordered 6 different items off the menu and they were all excellent. Service is a little more leisurely so plan on a little longer for dinner.

Ambience and service were great! Ordered the oysters (6 for $21), not served on ice and no accoutrements served with them. Only a little added, what seemed to be, flavored oil on them. Not impressed. Ordered the burger melt. Not so much a melt. There was barely any cheese. Meat was good. Felt like I was really only eating meat and bread. Onions weren’t prevalent either. Flavor was good, but expected more in the actual melt for a $36 burger.

Made a reservation for brunch via Open Table for 12/23/22. When we showed up we were told they were only offering counter serve. When we went to counter to order, most of the drinks of the menu were unavailable. Why would you list reservations on Open Table for this?

First, let me say that the service was beyond exceptional! We got lucky because people were out of town this week before Christmas, and there was a Chargers home game, so we used it as an opportunity to visit Mama Shelter for the first time for Sunday brunch. It did not disappoint! Robert was our main (incredible) server, but we were treated so well by everyone on staff. Jess (the bartender), Mark, and Tasia (sp?) did everything to compliment Robert giving us the best experience possible. Between bringing condiments, clearing items from the table, assisting Robert with bringing our food out, checking on us to make sure that we had everything we needed- they all made us feel right at home! I’m so happy I ignored the handful of reviews about poor service, because we experienced the polar opposite! And yes- they did all of that with smiles on their faces!!! XOXO And then there’s the food… We had the California breakfast, the omelette, the Dutch baby, and the fruit plate. Everything was amazing! Everything was cooked well, flavorful, priced well, and most of all… Plentiful! Between the friendly and attentive service and the food quality- we will definitely be back!!!! Next stop… Rooftop!

Mama shelter is a wonderful establishment. The ambiance and food were excellent. I Ended up getting proposed to and the entire team at mama shelter was amazing In helping my fiancé pull it off. The price for a dessert was $15. Total $20 spent with a automatic 18% service charge. A little steep but it was a great ambience and lots of people out.

Pretty expensive for the value and quality. Primarily went there to go to the rooftop lounge, but it was crowded, bad service, no one brought us drinks, and the elevator didn’t work , so had to walk up the steep stairs. Parking was $40 and dinner for two was $250

The host was amazing. I think her name was Jenesi/Hennessy. She was kind and inviting and very accommodating. Our server was excellent. Super nice. Gave great recommendations and went above and beyond. It was the first time for two of my guest and they loved the ambience and the food. The downstairs bartender made a proper mezcal old fashioned.
