The name Birch is a subtle homage to chef Brendan Collin’s hometown of Nottingham, England, where he grew up near a copse of birch trees. Collins has designed Birch's menu to reference the diversity in Los Angeles that has intrigued and influenced him over the years. Some examples include rabbit baklava with dates, white beans, pistachio and carrots; monkfish tikka masala with quince chutney and lime pickles; and a whole fried snapper with lemon, fennel salad and a saffron rouille. Dishes will be shareable ranging from appetizer-like to larger format options, fostering a convivial atmosphere. General manager Sal Roses, formerly head bartender at chef David Lefevre’s MB Post in Manhattan Beach, will take the helm of service and the beverage program with signature cocktails that include the Stabilizer with vodka, rosemary and lime; and a wine cocktail called Vino Snap with San Pietro Gavi, Cocchi Americano, lemon and ginger.

Made a reservation for my wife's 40th birthday and the day of I looked up the restaurant on Google and it was permanently closed! No notification from OpenTable or the restaurant and it had been closed for a month! WTF! Completely unacceptable.

Restaurant is no longer in operation. I'm surprised that I was able to make a reservation. Thankfully, opentable notified me that the reservation was cancelled.

Lovely experience at Birch! A warm LA night, good friends, good wine. The Pork Shank was INSANE, the figs and burrata, delicious and the Chicken Liver Mousse - amazing. I'd definitely return! Super fun strip of Cahuenga.

I used to love Birch. They have changed their menu to a less interesting, less shareable menu. Also, we were having a pre-show dinner which they were aware of. There was ONE server for the whole restaurant. We waited 15 minutes before being approached , they no longer have a full bar and our (and everyone around us) food was significantly delayed. It took over an hour to get our mains which we had to eat in 5 minutes to rush to our show. They did remove one entree from the bill but for now, I am staying away.

Great food with unusual flavor combinations that work. The crowd is maximal right before a nearby theater event on Saturday nights, so if you go later in the evening, it may be less frenetic.

Very creative and tasty menu. My hubby and I shared the puttanesca and their signature pork loin. The pasta was filled with flavorful olives, capers and anchovies. The portion was small though. The pork on the other hand was substantial and was, fall apart tender. I especially liked the fact if you're heading to the Pantages you can park on the street and walk to the theater. The manager was so nice to show us a shortcut there. Definitely will be back.

Being on a busy Hollywood street, it's a bad idea for the entire front of the restaurant to be open. Cigarette smoke from passerbys wafted in throughout the meal. Portions were small and flavor profile average. Burrata appetizer was quite lovely, but Patty melt subpar and scallops overcooked. There were at least 8 dirty tables upon arrival, and there were only 3 people at the bar, so being too busy to tend to tables is not a probability. Don't sit under an ac vent either, condensation dripped on me during the meal. The restaurant design is nice, and the menu has potential, but it has a long way to go before I would return. There aren't many entrees for those who do not eat seafood either.

Unfortunately, the restaurant was severely understaffed. Service was incredibly slow due to there only being 3 servers (one was the host). The staff was polite and friendly but the food was overpriced for what you get. Would not recommend. I think this place has great potential, but some of the dishes (like a few pieces of melon and some prosciutto for >$15!!) do NOT have enough thought and care applied to make this place worth it.

Terrible experience. Service was a miss from the beginning. Walked up no hostess. Waiter sat us. Thought it was weird but got worse. The entire restaurant had 2 servers for 20 tables. Totally disorganized. Food was underwhelming and over priced.

We went to Birch prior to going to see Hamilton and it was packed with people eating prior to seeing the play. The energy in the room was great--everyone was friendly. We sat at the bar and had happy hour prices which was great as we got to meet everyone seated around us. The food was top notch and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

In the heart of Hollywood but with a Silverlake vibe. The menu is tiny (not a lot of salads here) but intriguing and well-thought out. If your server tells you your handcrafted cocktail is "spicy," believe her. My Birch Punch was almost medicinal, there were so many herbs and spices in it. All was forgiven with the appetizer (peaches and burrata with a heavily-spiced hush puppies) and the AMAZING pork shank. It was presented as a deconstructed banh mi: pieces of lettuce, flatbread, pickled carrots & cucumber, hoisin and hot sauces and a beautiful, succulent, tender pork shank, all for your combining pleasure. My sister had capellini with lobster, and it was scarfed down before I had a chance to sneak a forkful (I was pretty mesmerized by my pork shank) Had no time for dessert (pre-theater) but I'm looking forward to coming back here and checking out more of the menu.

Birch was one of my favorite restaurants in Hollywood due to the amazing food and perfect service, but after my last experience, I'm not sure if I will go back. The service and ambiance have totally changed. We tried to order another entree at 8:45p and our server told us the kitchen was closed. First, who closes their kitchen at 8:45p? Second, why would the server not tell us?! The server pushed the food through and then apologized, saying the kitchen staff wanted to leave which is why they wanted to close to the kitchen. The bartender sat behind the bar, eating his own food, staring at us. Then in the middle of us eating with fresh drinks, the restaurant turns on all the lights and the music off....in other words, trying to push us out. It was only 9:15p! Birch is one of the more expensive restaurants in Hollywood. It's not worth paying that kind of money for the lack of service and ambiance. It's sad to see another restaurant in Hollywood go downhill.

Food was great. We were seated near bar. Apparently new bartender was in manic episode. He talked non stop and very loudly in his never ending attempt to pickup female at bar. Extremely annoying. To the point it ruined what should have been excellent dining experience.

I've loved Birch in the past. But they're going thru some transition and you couldn't feel the love anymore; out of many items on the menu, 1/2 the bar menu missing b/c bar manager transition and no re-stock, 2 servers for whole floor and were overwhelmed and couldn't be as attentive as in prior visits. I would've closed for a couple days til new staff was in place and menu and bar items restocked. Felt like 1/2 a restaurant operating food & service-wise compared to their former glory.

From the moment we arrived and were seated, ordering our food & enjoying our food and atmosphere, this was a great place to eat! The sea bass was perfect. My daughter had the gnocchi and it was delicious. The service was great. We were delighted to have such a nice place to eat before seeing "Hamilton" at The Pantages. :)

Convenient location for pre-show dinner, though there is no valet parking, so you'll have to allow time for parking and walking. Servers and bartender were friendly and professional. The dishes were well-presented and delicious. The only frustration was the slow service in the kitchen. We waited 45 min for food to arrive after ordering, and we were worried that we might be late to the show even though we allowed 2 hrs for dinner.

We made a reservation, and they decided to close the kitchen before we got there. We had had a rough day, as someone close to us had tragically passed away, and we wanted to enjoy a nice dinner with friends to get our minds off of things. They apparently did not check their reservations and really weren't apologetic and were annoyed that we wanted to eat on a Thursday night at 9pm. I have eaten here before and really enjoyed it, but I won't be back.

Was disappointed and will not return. CC required for reservation for this place? Ambience was pretty disappointing for how much we had to pay for drinks and food. The portion of the food was small-plate-size. Absolutely noisie, uncozy, not classy, and crammed in. Was hoping for a chilled, relaxing, and classy atmosphere. Not even close.

We had dinner for a pre Hollywood bowl show/anniversary celebration right as the restaurant opened. The table shared the curry meatballs (brilliant) and butter lettuce (everyone loved the light dressing). Entrees were sea bass, ribs, gnocchi and Patty Melt. Everyone raved about the patty melt. Rated a star down for service because the waitress was notably short and seemingly disinterested.

Really wanted to like this place. Service was sub par and main dishes just seemed off. I had the Sea Bass and it was a thin filet..Usually it is more steak like and taste was off so not sure I got what I ordered, I inquired with the server and got a shrug... Wife had the octopus which had nothing on the plate but a tentacle no side or starch. That is fine but then that really should be an app not a main course..Totally forgettable meal....
