Antica Trattoria is a warm restaurant with an old-fashioned sense of hospitality that quickly became a gathering place for dinners in Lake Murray and the rest of San Diego when it opened in 2001. For Executive Chef and Owner Francesco Basile, good cuisine is about honest flavors, fresh ingredients, and simplicity. That's the kind of food he grew up eating by the seaside in Sicily and it's what he learned in culinary school in Italy.

About reservations: We have a 15-minute grace period. Please call us if you will be running later than 15 minutes. If a later time slot is available, you may be able to switch your reservation.

We may contact you, so please ensure your email and phone number are up to date. Your table will be reserved for 1 hour 30 minutes for parties of up to 4 guests; 2 hours for parties of 5 to 8 guests; and 2 hours 30 minutes for parties of 9+. We cannot guarantee special request for tables.

    Antica Trattoria is consistently delicious and reliable - a neighborhood gem and a La Mesa standout. Our recent dinner experience was no exception. The lasagna was fantastic, as was my dinner companion’s seafood linguine. It is always impressive when the owner is present - in this case mixing drinks at the bar! - ensuring top-notch quality. Can’t wait to return.

    The staff is always amazing here, and the food as well! My friend got their cioppino and I got their special, which was squid ink spaghetti with with a porcini truffle cream sauce with shrimp. Always love coming here!

    We made a dinner reservation for 5pm for our Anniversary. We put outside on the reservation worried about noise level for our 10 month old but when we arrived it was nearly empty inside and asked to possibly sit inside. The hostess was not welcoming and said no, outside and can get us a highchair and heater. We stood waiting for the table to be cleaned and a high chair for a bit. The bus boy came with waters and place settings and that’s where we sat.. for 25 minutes.. no server came to ask us for drinks/greet us. Multiple other tables sat around us outside and inside who were greeted and cared for before us despite arriving after us. When another table next to us got greeted, wine samples brought out I stood up and returned our menus to the host expressing my frustration then asking to speak to management. The hostess said there was no management or owners on site to talk to. When asking for contact information she rudely said “I’m not giving you their contact info”.. we should have really left then but Levi our server showed up and did expedite our food and was attentive. As someone who has been in the service industry for many years and seeing how slammed he was - it’s on the hostess for timing out seating and being properly staffed. Her attitude and lack of customer care was truly disgusting - and someone who is the face of a restaurant when greeting your customers should be more welcoming and knowledgeable to try and make things right. The bill came and we’re told the “starter bread” and a scoop of ice cream was on the house. Disappointed as we come out for a special occasion and this is a place I typically rave about to out of towners and locals but after last night - I don’t think I will be anymore.

    Outstanding in every way … Heather our server was professional, attentive, extremely pleasant, knowledgeable, respectful, made our evening even more special… food was exquisite… memorable with fantastic choices on every level …. Thank you for just a wonderful evening with our Family!

    What a hidden gem in La Mesa! Fantastic food, fantastic service! Highly recommend! Our server, Heather had numerous tables. She was handling always had a warm, smile, helpful, and even had her daughter there helping and showing her the ropes 👍

    Love this place but the hostess greeted me by saying how can I help you. Lol don't ever say that. Also prices were a lot higher. Other than that it was great as usual.
