   Food was very good. The burger is notable! The happy hour menu makes dining out a very happy experience. The staff was friendly and attentive. We hope that when the cafe opens up to a new menu and make over, that it will be just as good.

   We met friends at the restaurant and had a very fun meal. The service was outstanding and the chef was very flexible with a substitution for one person in our group who is allergic to shellfish but wanted the halibut entree. I love that the tip is automatically included, no math required. My pasta was delish and the halibut dish was superb. Very noisy, hard to have a conversation at times.

   This was our first visit to Café Castagna and heard they might close soon so we wanted to check the place out before that happened. It was a pleasant surprise, cozy and intimate. I ordered the pizza and the marinated olives; Michael ordered the burger and Ken’s bread. It was a wonderful experience and we hope to visit again!

   As always, delicious food (although a little pricey). Haven't been in a while, but it was as tasty as I remember! The butter lettuce salad & moules/frites were top-notch. Will be sad to see the Cafe close, but we're looking forward to the next concept! Feel lucky to have this culinary talent in our neighborhood.

   Good as usual. The butter lettuce salad is always a winner. Burger could have used some additional accoutrements, miss the previous nest of fries that were so good. Still great place for a casual dinner. Sorry to hear it is going away, sure that Monique will create something new and xciting

    The best part about Cafe Castagna was the service. The food was really good, but the service was especially attentive - they came over multiple times to wipe the crumbs off of our table and got us new silverware between the appetizer and entree courses. The pizza and steak were really good, and the cheese plate was really delicious. The restaurant interior is really cute, and the outside area looked cute too - would like to visit with warmer weather.

    Overpriced, small portions, outstanding service, good food, ambience nothing special. We paid $30 for a trout dish that was the equivalent of an appetizer. It had to be sent back since it was too rare for our taste. Service is outstanding but they charge you 20% upfront as a tip for the servers. Oysters, chopped liver and pasta dishes were nicely prepared but appetizer size. The wine and beer menu was not anything special. With so many great restaurants in Portland I do not see a reason to return to this restaurant anytime soon.

    Dinner was good but prices high for the types of item. Noise level distracting. Could be addressed with fabric/absorption material on ceiling (very high) or carpet. Very hard to have a conversation. Our service was great.

    My cousin has a nickel/soy allergy and we really appreciated the time the wait staff took to discuss meal options. The food was great. The bread pudding dessert was the best I have ever had by far and wide.

    Although their food is very good and good service, it doesn’t justify the mandatory pre-charged 20% tip. I won’t be coming back. Too bad because I enjoy coming here .

    We planned on having a disabled friend with us and were not willing to wait for a table so being able to make a reservation was important to us. When our friend decided not to go, I called and let the restaurant know and also said we would be late for our reservation.They were friendly and accommodating. The food was good - sustainable and thoughtful. We started with cocktails and the cheese plate, had ocean trout and the impossible burger, split some brussel sprouts, and had dessert. The service was prompt and knowledgeable and the prices were reasonable.

    Had a very disappointing meal the other nigth. Almost all the food was under seasoned. I found the portions to small, and the food to restrained in general. This restaurant used to be one of my favorite places in town. Consistently putting out good renditions of staple neighborhood resturant fare. The chicken, ceaser and arancini used to be my go to, alas the stuff they are serving now is but a pale shadow of previous iterations. Maybe it's just nostalgia but I wish they still used the same recipes and techniques they did in the past. Probably not coming back.

    Everything was very good but the place is way to noisy for a comfortable conversation. The noise could be easily mitigated if the restaurant chose to make that a priority. If the noise level is rectified, we will return for dining and conversation. If not, forget this place.

    I've been to the restaurant many times before and enjoyed it....I ordered the steak and for price it was really a half of steak cut into strips.....the brussel sprouts weren't the greatest....but the fries were excellent....probably the best in town

    It was our first time here and we really enjoyed it. The prices were good enough to get several items off the menu to share. We had a lot of variety this way. The server was nice and patient with all of our questions. We will return.

    Lousy service, very loud, expensive. What more is there to say. Had a hamburger and a 2 glasses of wine. Husband had steak, 2 glasses of wine and 2 martinis' $167 + $33 tip they added - NOT worth $200 - I will NOT go again or recommend! sorry

    The food was extremely slow coming out of the kitchen. The wait staff was attentive and came by, so we didn't feel ignored. They ended up comping us for dessert - and even that took a long time to get to the table.

    We’ve been meaning to try Cafe Castagna for awhile. So glad we did for my husband’s birthday! Best dinner out that we’ve experienced in Portland for awhile! Rarely can I say that we loved everything! Only criticism, it’s a little noisy.

    We have very much enjoyed the food on the sandwich part of their menu previously and last Saturday. However, I was very disappointed to learn that the cheapest Chardonnay (our wine of choice) was $60. Are you kidding me??? I thought Castagna, next door was the upscale restaurant where you would find such expensive wine. I will only spend mid $30's on Chardonnay for everyday events, which is the kind of event I would come to this restaurant for. I definitely won't be returning unless I can bring my own wine at a reasonable corking fee.

    Maybe an off night but...we have gone to Cafe Castanga several times before and thought it was a superior dining experience. This time we were much less impressed. The menu lacked the old originality. The chef's menu option no longer exists. The a la carte food was only average. The steak was undercooked. The soup was blah. The server did not appear to love his job. I hope this was just a tired night (it was thanksgiving weekend), but i doubt we will return.

    Was very disappointed in this restaurant we brought 2 bottles of wine for a corkage fee of 20$ a bottle and our waitress opened them but didn’t pour the wine!service was very poor guess since the 20% tip was included they have no incentive to do a great job won’t recommend to anyone I know
