This was a special dinner from the prime rib with sides, soup, and dessert to a sweet waiter to the building itself. A thunderstorm happened during dinner, which added to the experience. The waiter explained the history of the room we dined in.

Williamsburg was the meeting point to see family from further north; we traveled from opposite directions to get together. We selected the Tavern for dinner for our last night. Our server was excellent and she had a wonderful sense of humor. She did a great job of explaining some of the colonial customs and the food. Two in our party had the salmon special, one, the prime rib and one had an assortment consisting of the soup of the day which was corn chowder, duck salad and the risotto. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. We had cocktails to start dinner and ended with desserts. The candle lighting and the musician added another level of ambience which was very nice. We would definitely return the next time we visit Williamsburg.

I wouldn’t go here for value or the amazing food. It’s an experience so if you’ve been to a tavern and a historical themed one don’t waste your money or time. The prime rib was the best thing we had, game pie is smoky and over rated, peanut soup needed more acid bite, corn chowder was really bacon chowder, the 30 dollar punch was okay but better spent on the 14 brandy drinks. I’m glad I committed to trying to give it a chance but 200 later for the three of us could have been spent at a nice more modern restaurant. We won’t be back but tempered expectations will ensure you aren’t disappointed.

We were seated first and served last. Last night of a special trip and we decided to splurge. Only thing that can recommend this place: it was nice to have a reservation and be seated without a wait. Server was pleasant and efficient enough. But the food was very disappointing. It was totally institutional food. Obviously lots of use of microwave, packaged and frozen foods. It was definitely not worth the cost and as far as an experience, it did not meet the expectations even a little. And the room was very loud. The wandering minstrel was a very good musician. I would not recommend adding this to your itinerary.

Wonderful colonial restaurant and dining experience. Colonial lunch was delicious, Mrs Purdues salat was great and the pork chop and cherry compote was marvelous. The Ava red wine was a real value and complimented the meal perfectly. The colonial arrived waitress was perfect and the wondering guitar playing colonists was highly entertaining. Great evening !!!

I was very interested in taking my family to a 'period' restaurant. The setting and the waiter did not fail in this respect: the setting was so interesting and the waiter was excellent---although I wish he would have treated us to some fun lessons in food etiquette of the time---however, the food was just not good. I understand that we were probably eating food prepared from that time period, however, maybe that should have been explained better to us or the menu changed to present more appetizing food from the 18th century. I am always up for an adventure and even I sent everything back, eaten half-way through. For the $200 we spent, we should have eaten elsewhere. If you are up for just the ambience then dine here

We were seated in a plain upstairs room and did t get the feel of the tavern. I had to send my prime rib back due to being over cooked and it was so-so for the price. The kids meals were awful. My husband enjoyed his pork chop. Overall not worth the $200 bill for four people.

We had an amazing time! The food, service and ambiance were nothing short of incredible. Just take note that due to the historically accurate setting, light and large place to navigate are difficult to come by. That said, it’s an incredible experience if you’re able to set aside the time and money.

Fantastic colonial music, kind and attentive service and the best punch bowl you can get. The food was a blend of period but made palatable for a modern diner. A beautifully done atmosphere in the heart of an amazing colonial ‘Main Street’. PS: nobody should be allowed to miss the Peanut Soup. It’s as Virginia as it can be.

We ordered the chicken (golden yard bird), hunter’s pye, and chop of shoat. I thought the pye was very good and not as heavy as I expected. My daughter and husband said their chicken and pork chop were extremely bland, but were prepared well. Overall, we didn’t find this restaurant to be a very good value because the dishes are quite expensive.
