MARCUS DC, by celebrated chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson, blends modern American cooking with Black culinary traditions from D.C. to Ethiopia, and beyond. Inspired by heritage, the seasons and a sense of place, the menu features mambo-sauced roast chicken, grilled whole bass and dry-aged tomahawk steak. Swediopian, a dish of cured salmon, goldenberry broth, fennel and a teff crisp, mirrors Saumelsson's birthplace and the land where he was raised. Executive chef Anthony Jones, a true Marlyander, brings his own story with dishes like Mel's Crab Rice with early summer mushroom, hot sauce pickled okra, and uni béarnaise, an ode to his favorite crab shack in Calvert County.

It was everything I was expecting. The server discussed the menu in full detail even making recommendations. I knew what I there for but tried a couple additional items so I wouldn’t miss out on the recommendations. So glad that I did! The food was excellent!

Our server, Don, answered all our questions and explained some of the dishes in great detail. He and the other staff persons that stoped by our table were very attentive. The food (2 of us had salmon and 2 had rockfish) and cocktails were quite good. The crab rice was a little salty for my taste, but I see why it’s popular. It reminded us of paella.

Disappointed. Chicken dish was salty and gummy/ chewy. Salmon dish attractive but super fishy tasting with no seasoning taste. Cauliflower curry dish was creatively crafted but cold. Salad pungent to taste, just an overall overpriced distasteful meal. Service staff was phenomenal, but unfortunately the food did not match the quality of the decor and staff ..

Nice decor. Went for dinner but truthfully I think it’s probably a better lunch venue. It’s bright and a little noisey. The food is global which is nice. I’d recommend the scallops, carrots, Pepe pasta and the cornbread. The wait staff is great.

Food was different. We enjoyed mostly everything. It was a great experience to try things we have never had before. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and took care of us. We told our family that lives here about it.

Overall great experience and really have high hopes they continue to evolve and improve. Their service was pretty good, although we were by their payment terminal so that was pretty annoying having 3-5 people hovering the entire meal. The food itself was great, wish I would’ve tried a crudo! Skip the crushed sweet potatoes, over priced and a bit boring. The crab rice was a table favorite as well as the scallops and pea salad. One bit that was odd, they had fresh fruit out as decoration, but some of the fruit was turning so we did have some fruit fly issues. Also, the manager was pretty brisk and seemed to be going through the motions. The dessert cart was a lovely touch, and the gentleman running it was so engaging and lovely, he made that experience even better than the cake!
