   Beautiful ambiance and friendly faces greeting you as you walk in. Service was fast and drinks were great however the food is a bit disappointing. The quality of the Tuna was subpar and smelled and tasted fishy. The panko crusted pork on the Donburi dish was soggy. We did enjoy the garden salad with the sesame dressing.

   My husband and I had a date night at Tomiko-San and it was wonderful. The decor is lovely and the service was friendly and efficient. But the food was the star! Everything we ordered was incredibly fresh and delicious. I especially loved the Tuna Tataki, the Geisha’s Gaze roll, and the Niji roll. No fake crab or fake fish roe like most sushi restaurants in town. The only downfall of our experience was that we were seated at a two top table near the door and it was pretty noisy. But we will definitely be back!

   I was told this was an “authentic” Japanese restaurant with a Japanese Master Chef. I have lived in NC 5 years and have searched for a true Japanese experience. I booked dinner for our 20th Anniversary. Unfortunately, this was the wrong place to go to for our celebration and disappointing. A true Japanese restaurant welcomes you along with all of the staff. The only one who engaged with us was our server. While the ambiance is lovely and modern, they miss the mark on hospitality. The prices for what you get are extreme. When I asked first hot sake & low sodium soy sauce, I was told they do not serve cheap sake or soy sauce. I lived in Los Angeles and ate the best Sushi where the Japanese dignitaries would dine and this cannot compare. You have a Sake menu of bottles to choose from so I went over to the Sake bar and saw the bottles of Sake and asked for a taste. I chose a Sake bottle that had great flavor notes for $70.00. The Sushi and food are artfully prepared and displayed. I saw several large Japanese bowls with a large fish head and open mouth, surrounded by a beautiful assortment of sushi. They do serve high levels of sushi from Japan; hence the high cost for an evening. Our dinner was over $345.00 for two and we left hungry. There was nothing done or anything special for our Anniversary. While I love Kipos and the other family of restaurants, Im not sure how long this one will last.

   Nice place and excellent sushi and cocktails. We were not that thrilled with the entrees as we were expecting more Asian influence to the dishes, and both the curry and teriaki chicken were prepared more like Sunday dinner with gravy. Also, the skin was left on the chicken in both the curry and teriaki which was off-putting since the sauce made the skin floppy. The entrees were a lot of food though and the rice was flavorful and cooked nicely. We will be back for all the yummy sushi selections and the ice cold, tasty cocktails!

   Small but excellent menu; more cooked items and hot sake. needed. Having been in Japan, I found the sashimi excellent and nicely plated. Would like to see Chirashi and some sushi/sashimi specials. Noisy room but smart decor. Will definitely visit again and try the beautiful out door area. Best sushi restaurant in Wilmington.
