   My family and I recently stayed at the new Gaylord Pacific over Memorial Day weekend and had a couple of dining experiences I wanted to share feedback on. On our first night, we had an 8:15 PM reservation at your restaurant but experienced a delay. After waiting until 8:40 PM, we decided to dine elsewhere at Growlers. During our second night at the hotel, we made a reservation after spending time at the pool. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were unfortunately turned away due to our attire. I was wearing a comfortable lounge outfit as we had just returned to our room to shower. The employee at the front desk who explained the dress code was also a bit impolite. While we were fine with sitting in the lounge area instead, we were surprised when, about ten minutes later, two gentlemen in basketball shorts, hats, and t-shirts walked out of the main dining room. Upon bringing this to the manager's attention, she was very apologetic and kind regarding the miscommunication, as was the staff member who later delivered our food to the lounge. Overall, we found the food to be excellent, the restaurant itself is stunning, and the ambiance was beautiful. We simply hope for a bit more clarity and consistency in communication with guests regarding policies such as the dress code. As a family that travels frequently, we appreciate experiencing diverse dining options with our children, including fine dining. To prevent similar situations for other guests in the future, I would suggest clearly communicating and enforcing any dress code at the time of booking reservations. This would help ensure that all guests are aware of the expectations and avoid any potential discomfort or embarrassment.

   The restaurant is pretty, but the acoustics must be addressed. The restaurant is so loud, I was reminded of a cafeteria. We had trouble hearing our server and each other. I had a filet, potatoes and asparagus with a Bearnaise sauce. All were very good. My husband, however, could not seem to get his dry aged steak cooked medium rare. He was also underwhelmed with the quality of the beef. The restaurant kindly removed the steak from our bill, after delivering well cooked steak twice. Our server was really very nice and recommended a bottle of wine, which we enjoyed. Prices are high at this restaurant, so we were a little surprised at how casually everyone dressed for what should be a special meal. With the restaurant being so new, they hopefully will work out these issues for future guests.

   Sadly, the food was not great. The steak was overpriced and poorly cooked. Dinner took over 2.5 hours. The server was friendly and nice, but this did not live up to the price tag. Super expensive and disappointing sadly. However, the potato puree was incredible, but who goes to a steakhouse for the side dishes?

   Review for Old Hickory Steakhouse We had an outstanding evening at Old Hickory Steakhouse! From the moment we arrived, the service was top-notch—Nico, our server, was attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel right at home. The rest of the staff was just as impressive, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout our meal. We started with a couple of well-crafted drinks and a beautifully presented charcuterie board that set the tone for the evening. The highlight, though, was the Cowboy dry-aged 32 oz steak—perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and complemented nicely by the extra side of mushrooms. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make her feel like a queen. Every detail was thoughtful and added to the experience. We’ll definitely be returning soon to explore more of the menu. Highly recommended for a special night out!

   We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at the Old Hickory inside the brand new Gaylord Pacific Resort. Everything was excellent, from the ambiance to the service and foods. The chef even came to our table for a chat. A great place for special occasions. Highly recommended.

   Everything was good, services were not just right, but good efforts. My steak was very good, but not hot when it arrived at table. Dessert was excellent!

   For top-notch dry aged meats, Old Hickory is the best I’ve found in San Diego. The service was outstanding. The ambiance is a Cali-casual vibe with indoor and outdoor seating and definitely not a stuffy steakhouse. It’s not cheap but it’s worth it.

   Just opened in the Gaylord Pacific Resort-Convention Center. The staff was very nice and the restaurant was very “classy” and appealing. When you enter the bar area had a few high tops and tables. Entering the primary restaurant dining area, One side the wall was lined with refrigerated wine bottles, the other side was a view of the pools outside. All the Drinks we tried were fantastic. A Smoked Old fashion was the favorite. Appetizer, the beef tartare on top of bone marrow. So good! The bread service was not their usually sourdough, but overall tasty and served with herb butter. We shared a deconstructed chowder - not filling or hearty. Tasted closer to coconut milk and lime. Dinner we shared the tomahawk steak. Perfectly cooked medium rare with different sauces to try on the side. Overall great dining experience, it is expensive though!
