Sun Moon Studio is a farmer and producer-driven restaurant in West Oakland by Chefs Alan Hsu and Sarah Cooper.

We offer a multi-course tasting menu for $150 per person in our intimate, 4-table dining room. An optional beverage pairing is available for $90 per person. The focus of our menu is to highlight the bounty of local producers and farmers through the lens of our life experiences. *Please note: beginning July 18th, 2025 the tasting menu price will increase to $180. *

We are happy to adjust our menu to accomodate dietary restrictions, but require advanced notice. Please let us of your party's dietaries when making a reservation so we may plan for your arrival.

Reservations are released on a rolling basis, 6 weeks in advance at 12 noon.

Farm and producer driven tasting menu in West Oakland in an intimate 4 table restaurant, by Chefs Alan Hsu and Sarah Cooper. Multi-course prix-fixe menu featuring local and sustainably sourced ingredients directly from farmers, ranchers, producers, and fishermen interpreted through the lens of Northern California Cuisine. We will gladly prepare for dietary restrictions as long as there is advanced notice. Please note that a credit card number is required at the time of reservation. This is not a deposit and charges of $75/person will only be applied for cancellations or reduction of party size within 3 days of reservation date.

    Sensational meal. Interesting combinations of ingredients—there was a strong (but not overpowering) hint of chili in a few dishes the night we went—that energized the dishes in surprising ways. One of the most memorable dishes was the pork short rib, which was paired with both fresh and preserved apricot that were served over a gochujang spread, complementing both beautifully. Good, casual, attentive service that flowed seamlessly—both chefs and waitstaff moved about the kitchen and dining room throughout the night to help with the service.

    Superb food, start to finish. Low-key ambiance - not ritzy, but high quality and very attentive. Lovely anniversary celebration.

    We felt like the chefs had shopped the summer farmers markets and served us incredible bites of everything they found there. Fish, crab, meat, sausage, egg custard, veg, it goes on and on. 3 desserts. I loved the space, it was hospitable, airy and calm. Just a lovely, unpretentious experience.

    What a memorable, lovely meal in a warm and inviting space! I could taste the love and care the chefs put into each dish, and felt like they were able to highlight the essence of each thoughtfully-selected ingredient. I would highly recommend Sun Moon Studio for any celebration, big or small.

    This place is amazing. The food is spot on. We’ve been twice. The second time with our 11 year old who ate everything. They were good at making me vegetarian food, too!

    From the music that I noticed but didn't notice in the best way, to the calming ambience and friendly service, I was immediately at ease. I chose to experience SMS as a solo diner and it was exactly the calm environment I needed to taste every sophisticated yet approachable flavor and decompress. The food was fresh, creative without being too overthetopinventive, and the chefs were not only flexible with my preferences but extremely friendly as they serve some of the dishes themselves. This is a special place. I can't wait to go back!
