About this restaurant

  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Great for happy hour
Nearly 70 years after its arrival onto the San Diego boutique hotel landscape, Point Loma’s iconic mid-century modern Pearl Hotel has unveiled the latest chapter in its storied history with an ambitiously reimagined restaurant and bar: Ponyboy. The inspiration behind Ponyboy extends beyond its décor and menu. Named after the protagonist of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, the restaurant conveys the spirit of individuality and rebellion in a time when hope and resilience were pivotal to navigating the challenges of a changing world. Guests will sense the nod to cultural iconography as they step into a space that feels familiar and refreshingly new. The ambiance is designed to harken back to a bygone era when traditional American comfort foods and elaborate dinner parties were both fashionable and fun. We look forward to seeing you soon, drink in hand, soaking in the sun pool-side. Stay gold, San Diego.

Awesome, retro vibe with old black and white films playing on the projector above the pool! I’m always a fan of unique spots, especially if they actually have good food (which it definitely did).

This was the cutest, vibist restaurant! I definitely recommend sitting by the pool if you go in for happy hour or dinner. It’s very asthetic and the food was so homey and amazing! We got the wagyu burger stuffed with cheese and the chicken Kiev and it was so yummy. My friend had a pina colada and it came out in such a cute little tiki cup and she said it was wonderful. Would reccomend for fun or date night!

Whole team was amazing! Kristyn SLAYED it! A gem of a server and so attentive. Ian and bartender were amazing too! Best prime rib I’ve ever had. My guests all want to go back with their hubbies.

First off, love the Pearl. Have been a patron of the restaurant & bar for 15 years. The new Pony Boy restaurant is overall great but the Mother's Day brunch was expensive for what was served. $55.00 for about 7 all you can eat options and no bottomless mimosa. That's pricey when compared the Catamaran that has dozens of options, fresh seafood and bottomless mimosa. The Pearl does allow full access to the pool all day so there's that. Will continue to go to Pony Boy but not the brunch unless the value improves...

What a place. The mid century vibe is authentic and having dinner poolside was great. We came early for our res so sat at the bar for a bit enjoying happy hour oysters. Dinner very good. Cream or asparagus and broccoli soup ummmm good. We split a chicken Kiev. Done perfectly light crispy shell with creamy wonderful chicken on the inside. It’s definitely worth the effort to park!
