Had a fantastic Sunday brunch at Essex Restaurant! We opted for the a la carte menu and kicked things off with some seriously good cocktails – a Smoked Rye Old Fashioned and a fresh Espresso Martini. For entrees, everything was delicious, but the Shakshuka and the Dutch Baby pancake were definitely the standouts. The vibe was super lively and boisterous, but in a fun way, and they played a great mix of music.

Unfortunately, it took forever to get the food. We had 7:45 reservations and didn’t get dinner until 9:15. That didn’t include my Wife’s that came 10 minutes later. I got the lamb Ragu unfortunately, it was inedible due to the pasta being way under cooked. It looked, and tasted as though someone made a stew and put it on pasta. I never give reviews like this. $300 for 4 people and my Wife and I never ate. I will say this, I felt sorry for the poor waitress. She was amazing and tried everything she could. She doesn’t cook the food though.

Food was generally very good, interesting recipes, each element well balanced, and fresh (the tomatoes on one of my dinner companions were surprisingly sweet and juicy, given they are not yet in season!). The tagliatelle unfortunately was undercooked. It was served in a lamb ragout also so-so. The ragout was not penetrated into the pasta as it should have been because the pasta was so undercooked. The rest was wonderful. We had the oysters, calamari, goat cheese on crostini. The crostini could have been better with a better choice of bread. It was not crusty and rather lacking in flavor. The goat cheese and sweet garnish was a great combo. We also had the pork dish. Well cooked, juicy, in a fruity glaze with perfectly cooked greens, snap peas, green peas, and snow peas. I had the mezcal cocktail-excellent. The wines by the glass were mediocre table wines unfortunately (overpriced for what they are) and bottles way too expensive for my wallet. Wines by the glass were typically priced for Manhattan in that area. Our server was a wonderful and friendly person and as attentive as possible given what seemed to be an understaffed dining room. All the servers seemed friendly but super overwhelmed and the place wasn’t even full (we were there early, before a show). Maybe it’s the systems? The bus people and those serving water were also super friendly (we strike up quick hellos with everyone-we also all speak Spanish so it’s a natural interaction for us). Ambience was comfortable, laid back. Seating was also not too tight nor distanced. Music and conversation were not loud but high ceilings always amplify any noise. The music volume was set reasonably. We had to lean in a bit to hear each other, but we didn’t have to shout. The decor was artistic and some elements noticeably distinct. We were seated next to a wall of subway tile style tiles in a dark teal with slightly lighter grout. Other eye catching elements in the surrounding areas. Food prices high but not outrageous.

Great experience! Bar tender was friendly and diligent in making sure our drinks were filled. Food was delicious. We enjoyed our visit!

Went for a birthday brunch hoping for a quiet brunch. Although not that packed it was very loud. We have been to other bottomless brunch places in the city with a much calmer vibe. The food was good but nothing amazing and the portions left us speechless. the portions are definitely not worth the price, its very overpriced if you dont get the bottomless drinks. Everyone was very nice though.

We had a great experience at Essex for a late-night dinner. We ate at the bar and, even though the place was packed, the bartender, Patricia, was super friendly and really attentive. She mixed the perfect smoked old fashioned, which set the night off right. The highlight for me was definitely the calamari with pickled peppers – honestly, it was the best I've ever had. As the night went on, a DJ started playing, and the whole atmosphere transformed into a fun party vibe. Will be back.

Very noisy with a loud group of drunk people as we came in. Hostess and serving staff cleared them quickly, but the music was loud and AC was not working. We sweated through our meal. They were wonderful about refilling our water, but the oysters were not great - and everything was just kind of warm.

Essex pairs great music and a fun vibe with exceptional food. Highlights were the porterhouse steak for two and the gluten-free fried calamari with truffle aioli. Great craft beer list, including non-alcoholic options. My only complaint would be that I wish they had more mocktails.
