Due to the difficult economic climate, especially for restaurants, we have been forced to permanently close Bar Spero effective immediately. We are so appreciative of the support we have received from the DC dining community and did not make this decision lightly.

We would love to see you at our Georgetown sister restaurant, Reverie. Inspired by Chef Johnny Spero’s global travels, yet rooted in his Mid-Atlantic upbringing, Reverie is a Michelin-starred fine-dining experience without pretension or fuss. Bookings can be made via our website.

A fantastic dining experience. The burger and soft shell crab were fantastic. Really exceptional service provided by Elsa and Arthur. Highly reccomend!

Honestly a real disappointment. I’m not sure if we got there on a bad night but it was expensive, the food was fine but totally unexceptional, and the service was really, really, slow. Within the last six months I’ve had better food, with better service, in dc, for a third the price.

Bar Spero was a delightful experience. I felt welcome from the moment I stepped in. My friend ran 10-15 minutes late for our reservation so the staff invited me to sit at the bar and take advantage of their HH while I waited for her. The food was delicious. We shared oysters, the side potato, and the arroz con pollo. Nothing was a disappoint. I’ll definitely be back.

I can only speak to Restaurant Week experience, so there is that. Given this concept was originally conceived with the intent of bringing in business in an otherwise slow time of year, while having the chance to introduce and potentially woo new patrons into falling in love with your (one of quite many) establishments, I find these days, this whole intention has been turned on its head. Once, where Restaurant Week was supposed to be a mutually beneficial experience, it has now become a ploy solely working the restaurants’ advantage. $65 is a steeper Restaurant Week dinner cost, so I’ll admit my expectations were higher. However, when you only offer me a limited amount of La carte menu, and you open your RWeek service menu and tell me my first course options are potato chips with some tiny peppers and jamón, or an omelet, you’ve already lost me. Then, if you’re offering me rice, chicken, or a dry, skinny rib eye as my mains, now you’ve just insulted me, on top of that. While the dessert was the highlight and quite tasty, and my friend and I enjoyed our happy hour oysters, I’d be hard-pressed to give this place another chance given the plethora of other amazing restaurants in the DMV. Spend your $$ elsewhere.

My husband and I came here after reading reviews. We LOVED it. Exceeded expectations, both in food and in service. Ribeye is amazing. Wine pairing is incredible!
