Il Gabbiano is an Italian Steakhouse brought to the historical waterfront district and neighborhood of the city of New Haven, Connecticut by Chef Valentino Stakaj owner of the city's iconic Adriana's on Grand Avenue and La Lupa in North Haven, Valentino has rebuilt the famous restaurant location at 501 Long Wharf Drive which overlooks the Long Island Sound. Monday to Sunday happy hour from 12:00-6:00pm drink and appetizer specials every day.

We made a reservation at the very last minute but there were plenty of tables both indoors and outside. The food is very good. My husband had the sea bass special and said it was delicious. I had chicken cordon bleu which was prepared in a brandy sauce. Different but very tasty. I thought the kitchen was a little slow on the entrees and the prices a little high. Our waiter, Jordie , was a very nice young man and very attentive.

Obviously, this restaurant has been manipulated by some outside marketing firm to show five stars when it is more a three star restaurant It is big almost too big. The water view is at the power station and gas buildings. The food was very subpar Italian. I should’ve went into downtown New Haven with the more culinary streets. It felt like a tourist trap or maybe just a large community scene of very nice locals

Food was good. Drinks were good. Staff were polite and attentive. Greek band was a lot of fun. It was a fun night. We’ll all be back! Thanks for a fun night!

Il Gabbiano was excellent, the chicken and veal Milanese was wonderful, highly recommended. They were prepared and cooked to perfection, arugula salad is light and delicious topped with great tasting parmigiana.

First time at I’ll Gabbiano, came highly recommended and did not disappoint! Beautiful location on the Harbor! Bread freshly made, Drinks on point, salad was awesome , our meals were amazing! Chicken Scarpiello and Spaghetti Carbonara!!! Price was very reasonable and huge portions!

Come for the ambiance, cozy waterfront Italian cuisine. Food was good and large portions that you will need a to-go bag. Service was great very professional. Perfect for dates, happy hours with friends and co-workers, summer lunches and dinners. Enjoy!

Always delicious but wait staff not as attentive as on my past visits (possibly due to large number of customers since it was ladies night and good summer weather). Still a very pleasant experience—thank you!
