The Late August name derives from the joyful time of year when the Sears catalog would arrive at your doorstep, bringing a deep desire and wonderment to all who would receive it and begin feverishly circling the items that would hopefully arrive for Christmas.

Our restaurant, set in the previous Historic Downtown Sears building, seeks to bring that same wonder to guests through its atmosphere, service, and cuisine. Echoing the mission of Lucille's Hospitality, which is committed to “Serving the Past, Feeding the Future,” Late August’s menu explores the culinary heritages of Chef Chris Williams and Chef Sergio Hidalgo by bringing the dishes and flavors from both their youths and the experiences to date creating a culturally culinary celebration.

Wade Cellars, the wine brand founded by NBA champion and entrepreneur Dwyane Wade in partnership with Napa Valley’s renowned Pahlmeyer family, is teaming up with Michelin-recommended restaurant Late August for a special wine dinner experience. As part of Wade Cellars’ When We Gather series, the four-course dinner will take place at Late August and will be curated by Chefs Chris Williams and Sergio Hidalgo. The event is one stop on a multi-city tour spanning 11 U.S. cities throughout the spring, summer and fall, celebrating Black excellence in wine, food and culture. The dinner on July 10, will feature thoughtfully paired selections from Wade Cellars, with each course highlighting the intersection of celebrated Afro-Mex flavors and carefully crafted wines. Tickets are priced at $95 per person and includes all wine pairings.

I went to late August with some of my girlfriends for a ladies night, it was our first time. Parking is free, there’s also security around, which is really nice and makes you feel comfortable when you’re walking to the restaurant. When you walk in the restaurant the ambience is warm and welcoming, and we were immediately greeted by one of the staff members. Our server had great food recommendations and answered all of our questions. We were not disappointed in any of our selections. Highly recommend the oysters, fried tomatillos, fried and 1/2 rack of ribs. She was also very tentative and friendly. We will definitely be back!

Overall, a really good experience. Service could use a little work, but other than that, the food was good. Get the Fried Green Tomatillos.

Deshari was the best waitress! We had such an amazing night! The food was delicious. Loved the octopus and whole fish. Everything was super yummy! Would definitely recommend.

I went for a bday lunch on a Friday early afternoon and it was easy to get in and not crowded- which I like. Good food, nice atmosphere and ambience and overall great concept. I wasn’t too crazy about cocktails but enjoyed the farm to table dishes that were superb. Attentive and welcoming staff. The Caesar Salad, fried tomatoes and fried fish sandwich were superb and freshly curated. Gumbo was not as tasty but the team was open to that feedback and said they would look into improving saltiness. The overall service and vibe was just right with the old school 90s R&B playing in the background. I will definitely be back to try dinner. I recommend reservations as an overall rule of thumb.

This place never disappoints. The service is great, the food is creative and memorable, and the overall vibe is chill. Oh and don’t let me forget the cocktails. They’re absolutely crafted to perfection.

I eat at fine dining establishments regularly due to the amount of traveling I have to do for work. Late August is easily one of the best restaurants I’ve dined.

A large group of college alumni had taken over the bar area when we arrived so the restaurant was painfully noisy. Fortunately, that crowd cleared out soon afterwards and we could enjoy the ambiance, including pleasant music playing at a nice, low volume. Attentive and caring service meshed with terrific cuisine. This was our second visit to Late August and more will definitely follow.

I ran to Google so that I could tell yall how amazing my experience at Late August was last night! Not only did we have the best seats in the house at the chef's table, but the service was truly superb! We started the dinner with oysters and the grilled octopus and let me tell you. These starters only increased my anticipation for the main course. If you love east coast oysters, you'll kick yourself for passing these up! I got the goat stew and my friend got the fish with some type of homemade tamale! The presentation certainly matches the flavor! If you enjoy speciality crafted cocktails then you're in for a treat! I wasn't even finished with my food before I was searching opentable to plan my next visit! This restaurant deserves all the attention and praise it receives! I can hardly wait to return!
