Chef Stephanie and Eli Berchan moved to Los Angeles in March 2020 and started this homey style meal restaurant: Sumac.

The food we serve is food we eat, and we'd like you to try the food we grew up eating.
Super authentic Mediterranean, predominantly Lebanese restaurant, yet very eclectic, unconventional and not traditional. The laid-back environment gives it a feel of home. Eli's Grandmother's Baklava is to die for - family recipe since 1967. Very crunchy, very light on sugar
In no-time Sumac started catering to the NFL, Netflix, Paramount Pictures, Sephora, TMZ and so many other great companies and individuals.

My friend and I visited this place based on proximity to the movie theater. We were in a bit of a rush as our movie started in just over an hour. The server was incredibly accommodating and ensured that he delivered our dishes as promptly as possible. Throughout the meal, the server was extremely attentive while we tried a variety of delicious dishes. The portions were also filling, which was appreciated. The combination of high quality, fresh food and impeccable service is an incredibly rare find—we will definitely revisit this restaurant again. It was evident that a tremendous amount of thought and care was invested into the experience and I respect that level of commitment. Looking forward to revisiting again soon! Congratulations to the owner and staff!

I have ordered a bunch of stuff for my friends. One of the girls is vegan. They offer the pretty good vegan selection and we were all happy! Everything was tasty and fresh. Service was great too!

Sumac is a hidden gem and I was pleasantly surprised with taste of Lebanese family cooked food. If you want to taste the authentic home cooked Lebanese food…visit this place, as you will walk away with flavor, taste and ambiance of a family cooked meal that will touch your heart and leave a everlasting memory. 5 stars all day

This was our 1st time at Sumac Mediterranean Cuisine. Eli was very helpful and informative regarding the menu. The food was wonderful. We'll definitely be back and Eli will have his liquor license by then!!!!

Best Lebanese restaurant in LA Great food, great service, location is in the downtown LA The restaurant looks fresh and well maintained, The food is super delicious, we started with some appetizers; Hummus, Kibbeh; Fool (fava beans) it came out on time and we’re hot and delicious We ordered as well some cheese and Thyme pies that were super authentic, the flavor is super yummy We had the grape leaves along the makanik that had the real Lebanese taste We ended up with some baklava which I really missed the flavor of it along a Turkish coffee that you can smell before it reach the table Thank Stephanie for a great service!

I made a 4:30 PM Open Table reservation. When we arrived at the restaurant it was open, but empty. We were informed by front of the house staff that the chef said he was too busy and we could not be served! So we left to find another place to eat.

I made a reservation for Saturday evening, March 4th at 6 pm, and I received both an email and a text message confirming the reservation. But when we arrived at the restaurant we discovered that it was closed for a private event. The host of the event was very nice and offered to have us join them, but that wouldn't have been comfortable for us and so we declined. I repeatedly asked to speak with the owner or manager to get an understanding of how this snafu had happened, but they declined to come out and speak with us. A few moments after we left a waiter came rushing down the street to apologize and to offer us a free meal in the future, but again there was no explanation, and we were left scrambling to find somewhere nearby suitable to eat before curtain time for the play for which we had tickets.

Thank you very much for your review. We understand your frustration and we are utterly sorry for the mishap. Unfortunately, it seems that we had a system glitch, and the cancellation emails were not sent out and we were surprised to see the clients at the door. When my wife and I started this restaurant, we wanted it to be an extension of our home and obviously, we won't treat our visitors in such a way. We'd love to have you again and have you try our food and incomparable hospitality. Eli here

The food was okay, but personally, I didn't enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant. Having a table in the center of the room with unrelated items on display didn't add to the ambiance
