    Overall good experience, perhaps was expecting more given the ratings and hype. Service was excellent, appetizers were the best part followed by average main dishes leading one wanting more of an experience.

    Everything was outstanding. We shared the Red Snapper and it was plenty for two, with a beautiful accompaniment tray that was full of flavors. The Raviolo and the service was excellent as well! Highly recommend!

    fifteen minutes wait with the parking valet as understaffed. Another ten minutes with the hostess as she was on the phone and a line formed. Our inside table reservation ended up being outside and conversation competed with the planes landing at SAN. Menu a shadow of what it once was. Living on its past reputation

    Highly disappointed in the food. We had the Tuna appetizer, the whole fried fish, and the ribeye. The appetizer was small and unremarkable, the fish wasn’t seasoned, and the steak came out raw so we returned it and they removed from the bill. Left disappointed. Our first time there and likely won’t go back.

    Entered the restaurant for our reservation and the host sat us immediately. It was a 9pm reservation and half the restaurant was empty. But they sat us next to the server stations/ walk way. We asked if they could sit us somewhere else and the host said with a rude tone “it’s that table or the bar you pick..” we sat at the table and the server took our order she was nice, but half way through our meal she introduced us to somebody new because she was leaving. After that we had no service.. no table maintenance at all.. dessert menus took 20 minutes.. on the way out a manager noticed that we were not happy so we let him know as well how our experience was. The food was tasty but we left with a negative experience because of service.

    This place is well worth a visit, and I’d definitely return if visiting San Diego again. The menu is creative and everything we tried was delicious and interesting. The strawberry and burrata is heavenly and one could have it as dessert. The beet salad was full of surprises with pistachio and cocoa nibs in the mix, and the asparagus risotto was the best dish I have ever had with those ingredients. Nothing here is standard fare. Even if the dish names resemble something you have had before, you’re in for a surprise with the execution and flavor and texture combinations. The space itself is also gorgeous, though we opted to sit outside (still COVID anxious). The outdoor patio was cute, but no match for the beautiful interior of the restaurant and you do have to listen to planes landing or departing from the nearby airport. It was all worth it for the exquisite food.

    What a fantastic experience! Start to finish impeccable service (shout out to Paul, Anna, Riley, Mike and Angela), and an incredible meal by Chef and his team. Wonderfully inventive, fresh, seasonal and satisfying. Can’t wait until the next visit! Spot on wine list as well.

    Lovely dinner. Appreciated the special wishes on the menu for our Anniversary. Server was professional and overall excellent. Server moved a couple with a screeching toddler to the patio without a hiccup, though it would have been finje; we didn't ask, she just took leadership. The Duck did not disappoint. Small plates yummy. You are our go to restaurant for really special occasions. The only thing that we thought was unusual, was the $40 corkage fee, we aren't used to high fees when bringing a special bottle. Thank you for continuing to provide an amazing place to dine.

    This was an amazing place to eat. The drinks and the food are incredible and our waitress was amazing. Only thing was that the restaurant was empty when we showed up at 5:30 and we were set sit in the mezzanine. That area is by far the worst seating in the house and does not do the restaurant justice. The hostess was great and relocated us after we asked to move. We were much happier once we were relocated. Maybe keep the mezzanine as a PDR only? It really depleted the experience. There’s a huge open kitchen that is a major part of the experience, in which you do not experience when in the mezzanine.

    Love this place. The food is always nicely prepared and rarely something I could make at home. Also like the wine list and that there are half glasses and full glasses as well as a nice list of under $40 bottles. Service is great.

    Food was delicious however was disappointed by the lack of due diligence on ensuring there was no gluten in my wife’s meal. She has celiac’s disease and made that clear when we sat. Had to ask several times on whether certain items were gf and tho we were assured by wait staff (didn’t appear they checked with the chef) my wife took a bite on an item that had gluten (was told after the fact). Unfortunately ruined our evening. Food and service otherwise were very good. Would just hope that at a high end restaurant like this there would be more due diligence on a guests food allergies/diseases.

    The bites and smaller plates were well balanced and delicious. Highlights were the hand rolls, Mille fuelle, chicken liver toast, king salmon ceviche/small plate. Portions were bigger than expected which was a nice surprise but left no room to try dessert. Mussels were a let down. Wines were excellent. Anniversary dinner and they were very attentive to that, accommodating indoor table with manager coming by to wish happy anniversary.

    My wife and I got mocktails for drinks, my wife got a berry mocktail, and I got a citrus mocktail. We ordered the yellowtail tostada, strawberries and burrata salad, carne cruda asada tartare, seared bonito, and halibut as our entree. We also ordered the tiramisu yodel and passionfruit chocolate tart for dessert. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious.

    They have 5 menu categories of food - from Bites to Dessert. My wife and I shared one from each category with the main and dessert clearly labeled for two people. She had two cocktails; I had two beers. We also received a complementary glass of sparkling wine each as it was our anniversary. We were stuffed by the end of it. $200 before tip. Pretty good!

    I went for Mother's Day and the food was very good but also fairly expensive. Enjoyed the meal but $100 a person (with drinks and tips) is a bit much.

    Found out they only serve brunch twice a year. The ambiance feels different than at dinner time but you can appreciate the decor of it much more during the day. Service was great and attentive. We all enjoyed our meals.

    The food was amazing. Especially the tiramisu dessert. However, the hosts need some training on service protocols. We were told to wait in the bar for our table even though we had a reservation. The bartender rudely told us we couldn’t sit in a particular place. We go back to the hosts, and they tell us that we have to sit in a particular couch area that we soon found was completely full. It’s not a good first impression to be bounced back and told no by a bartender. So we stood there a while. Fortunately a table opened up, but the whole greeting process was kind of silly.  Our server was phenomenal though. food made up for it.

    Menu is kind of weird and not anything like what's listed online. They were out of almost half of the entree items. And most of the remaining ones required 30-45 minute cook time. It's a beautiful space and the service was OK. Might come back and just have drinks at the bar. But overall not a great experience. Especially for the cost.

    The first time we went to J&I, we were very disappointed with the quality of the food, every item was either bland, undercooked, and had excessive salt and I reviewed a very negative review on Yelp. A year later I decided to try again after a promising response from the management and we were not disappointed. This time 'round, the Bites and Plates were all prepared well and the flavors were clean.
