The sidewalk outside was nice. Sadly they hadn't changed their name to "permanently closed" when I made my reservation. I was joined outside the restaraunt with other would-be patrons. I went to another restaraunt to get my taco fix, I think they're permanently open.

Food and service was timely and excellent. Waitstaff went the extra mile to make it. A great experience, I was especially happy with the drink recommendations and the special touches our waiter added to them.

I would not recommend this restaurant. The food was not good or poorly executed (Ceviche with little to no fish in it, stale chips, pazole with so much fatty pork in it that I didn't eat it). The drinks did not seem to have alcohol in them (Agua fresca). The noise was over the top. The maitre d, however, was terrific and friendly and responsive.

Delicious creative reinterpretation of Mexico City/Oaxacan dishes, awesome mezcal options, and stylish setting...music too loud and not interesting, given the food and trendy crowd. interior is fun and eclectic, waiters need to do their homework though. I'd go back!

While I thought the décor and ambiance was nice but the portion size was so small vs the price that I could have spent my money elsewhere and be full when I left. Instead I didn't order dessert for the fear it would be a very small portion

Fun and yummy but really really pricey. We knew it wasn't your corner taqueria, but still, we didn't expect entrees in the mid-20's. The trenditudieness wasn't worth that much.

Food is really not good, and it's expensive. With so much great Mexican food in this city, this should be your last pick. On the plus side, the service is good, although I feel sorry for the waiters, given the number of tables free on a Saturday night.

Been here few times before but had really bad experience this time. The brunch menu was really limited and service was bad. One of my friends ended up ordering egg and bread and they charged $6 just for the bread. When we asked them to revisit that they came back and said there is nothing we can do about it. Very poor service

Beautiful space. Unfortunately, the food and beverages here don't rise to the occasion and are astronomically overpriced. La Urbana will stay in business because of the fabulous location and because people have to eat, but the only memorable thing here will be the insane price of your check. On our visit we had one salad, two entrees, one beer and one margarita and the check came to $125. Also, word of caution to anyone with allergies--the servers don't know the ingredients even though they say they do. I'm celiac but easy going/low maintenance. I asked for anything that would be 100% gluten/cross contamination-free and was given a list of several options. Surprise, surprise, had the fun experience of a full-blown allergic reaction for the entire night after eating here.

Food was decent but service was awful. Constantly ignored, practically had to beg for a drink. Asked various waiters if we could order and they would all pass us off to someone else. For 100 bucks for two with drinks there are a million better places in San Fran.

Kind of a bore, only the chorizo was really good... everything else was mediocre at best and portions were tiny. I got a $30 steak that wasn't satisfying, the ceviche didn't have too much flavor, the chicken mole was dry even though the sauce was decent. Just a meh place, I don't feel like I should get my money back but I doubt I'll go back again.

I am a diehard Mexico City lover. I so wanted to love this restaurant but i just couldnt. The waiter was surly and impatient. The food was so very expensive. $19 for 3 small tacos of very chewy poor quality beef. The first wine bottle that arrived was clearly corked, the waiter was incredibly irritated and made us feel terrible. We did not over order, we had one bottle of wine and 2 desserts- the tab was almost $90/pp! For Mexican street food. Such a shame. The mezcal marg was great.

We chose La Urbana to celebrate a friend's departure from the city. Overall, not a great experience overall. The food was lackluster and the service was okay. We waited over 20 minutes to place drink orders and around the same amount of time to receive our drinks. For the amount of our bill, almost $200 for 4 people, I expected to at least leave with a full stomach. One of the dishes was undercooked and the other dish was around $15 for literally half of a sliced avocado and a few tortilla rounds.

I've been to La Urbana numerous times with different friends and groups of people. I was looking forward to taking an out of town friend there last week. Not sure what has happened to this place, but SF is a pretty fickle town so who knows. Instead of being full and a great buzz, only about half the tables were occupied. The service was pleasant, but so-so at best. It took for fucking ever to get our drinks, and then our food: appetizers, and main dish all came at once. If this place goes under, it really will be there own fault. They had a great place and concept and it's being left to run into the ground. Sad.

Be Prepared! While the location, food and physical plant of La Urbana are solid, be prepared to pay dearly. A plate of 3 small tacos goes for $24! Though very yummy, this translates to $2 per bite, without tip or taxes. Try to eat slowly to get the best value - that way you won't get ahead of the service which grew increasingly sluggish as tables filled.

I like La Urbana. However, I was not as happy with my experience as in 2015. The server brought our drinks after the appetizers. He then brought out our main course before we had finished our apps. It felt like we were being rushed although the restaurant was half full the whole evening. Lastly, when the server brought the check, he placed it face up, so my date, whom I was paying for, saw the bill. I would have appreciated it if he had not assumed we were splitting the check. The food was good but not for the raised prices . Also - no prix fixe on Valentine's Day like in 2015. Seemed a little lame.
