   We had to sit outside which we understood because it was going to be a busy night for them, but the tables were so squished tightly together that it was hard to get in and out of them, and it felt like we were having dinner with our neighbors. I was really looking forward to the food because of the reviews I had read but was disappointed in my dish which was the Roman Carbonara. All the carbonara I have ever had was just made with egg yolks which resulted in a silky sauce that clung onto the pasta. This one was some egg yolk sauce which resulted in a sauce that was really salty and pasty which did not leave a good mouth feel at all. Also, about half of the guanciale was too tough to chew so I ended up just picking out all the pieces and placed them to the side. Our waiter did not correctly convey that my dish would be different that what I had asked to confirm it is what I wanted. The woman bussing the dishes kept coming to our table to try to clear our bread plates away when we were still trying to eat our focaccia, then tried to take our plates away before we were done eating our main course. My companion said that her ravioli was delicious . However , the focaccia was cold, hard and dry, which was very very disappointing because the reviews I had read said that it was good. I guess we got the stale one from yesterday as we were the second table with diners at 5:00 right when they opened. Overall, it was a disappointing meal and put a bit of a damper o my companion’s birthday celebration. Sadly, I would not return again.

   Only negative was having to wait for a table about 15 minutes after reservation time. The rest of the dining experience was outstanding from the service to the food and finishing with desert. Will definitely be in my top three whenever I am in town.

   Monzu is like a little place you would find on a side street in Rome. There are only a few tables, the menu is pasta. It was delicious, and Antonio took wonderful care of us. Arancini with marinara is a must try app to split. We had the short rib ravioli and the bolognese. Both delicious. Glad we chose Monzu. It’s in the gas lamp…easy walk from convention center hotels.

   Monzu is now our go-to downtown quaint Italian restaurant. The food is always and delicious. We appreciate the simple and elegant approach, as it let's the individual elements of the dish really shine. You can tell that everyone at Monzu really cares about the quality and service of their restaurant. Our waiter Alberto was excellent. He could not have been more pleasant and helpful. All of the past dishes we have had have been super tasty, but the tiramisu is off the charts. The only downside is that it is small place that can get a bit noisy if you have a loud group at a larger table.

   This is an intimate neighborhood spot. All of the dishes are amazing. Fresh ingredients and unique twist to traditional Italian cuisine. The service is outstanding and they have nice patio seating with heaters making the experience comfortable regardless of the temperatures. A must try!

   My mom had been excited to return to Monzu Fresh Pasta after our first visit, which we absolutely loved. This time, we were celebrating her birthday and the upcoming arrival of our baby — a really special night for our family. Sadly, the experience was disappointing from the start. We had a 5:00 PM reservation and arrived 15 minutes early, being the first guests of the evening. Though we were seated promptly, it took over 20 minutes before our server, Justin, came to the table — and not once did he acknowledge my mom’s birthday or congratulate us on the baby, even though it was clearly a celebratory dinner. We asked how many stuffed zucchini blossoms came in a serving, and Justin said two, so we ordered three portions for our party of five. When the food arrived (after another 30-minute wait), each appetizer came with three pieces — resulting in far more than we needed, especially since we had other starters. Justin didn’t follow up, check with the kitchen, or suggest adjusting our order — which felt careless and unhelpful. By the time the entrees arrived — nearly an hour after ordering — we were already full. And to be honest, the food was mediocre at best. Nothing memorable or worth the wait. At one point, Justin started reading our orders before one of our guests had even had a chance to place theirs. My husband’s Chardonnay was forgotten, and the service overall felt disorganized and inattentive. What stung even more was watching other tables, who arrived much later than we did, getting served faster and with better attention. For such a special occasion, the lack of warmth, attention to detail, and overall poor service made this visit really disappointing. I don’t see us coming back.
