I thought the place was lovely. The reviews are kind of all over the place and I found our waitress to be great and offered tastings of wines and suggestions of food. Is it 5-star, no? But it’s not 5-star pricing either so I think it fits perfectly into its category of a nice neighborhood fresh Italian. Can’t wait to go back!

I'm very confused by all the good reviews here and on Yelp. I expected to have a good dinner at this restaurant but not one food item was up to the most basic standards. The $8 bowl of olives, were the same kalamata olives you can buy canned at the grocery store. The "bruschetta" was bland warm tomato sauce with flavorless mushrooms in it (weird). The beet pasta had so much liquid smoke, neither me or my boyfriend could take more than one bite and the tomatoes were ice cold (also really weird). The kale pesto gnocchi had none of the ingredients listed on the menu and was very bland. The service was attentive and apologetic but it didn't make up for the bright flickering lights and the terrible food. I'm in no way a food snob, but none of this food tasted the way food is supposed to taste. It makes sense that on a Saturday night, we were one of two tables in an otherwise empty restaurant. LA is an Italian food Mecca. You can go to literally any other Italian restaurant on the Eastside and get a WAY better meal.

My first time was excellent. Return visit not so great. Service was terrible. Cacio e Pepe wasn’t nearly as good. Great ambiance though. Will try again.

The pasta dishes were good, but a little bland. The Caprese Salad and the Melon Prosciutto Appetizer were both disappointing. Unripened melons and tomatoes ruined both dishes. There were some good wine choices that were reasonably priced, but many options at $30 or more per glass, which is over the top for us. The service was very good, and we had an enjoyable evening, but the food wasn't worth the cost. Also, all four of us were turned off by the decor... way too busy and crazy for our taste. We don't plan to return, and I wouldn't send a friend because there are so many Italian restaurants in the neighborhood that are much better.

The food was spectacular. One of the best plates of pasta I've had. I loved the Octopus dish. The wine was great, and the server was knowledgeable about the food and the wine. I really dig the decor. The only thing that was annoying was that there was no valet and that part of town can be difficult to park in. Either way, I have and will continue to recco this place to people.

Best Cacio e Pepe ever. Scallops were delicious. Lovely intimate space. Parking not terrible. I really hope this restaurant makes it. Highly recommend.

Come to Asso for an authentic Italian experience! It is a neighborhood gem, quaint, great food and service. The pasta is flavorful without being heavy. Don't be surprised if you hear the waitstaff and diners speaking Italian, the restaurant is Italian owned and the waiters are Italian as well. Our party of 3 had a wonderful evening here and we will definitely return!

Pleasnat surprise. We split the beet salad. I had the pasta with cheese and pepper. My wife had the pasta norma. Real good. Finished with some chocolate and brandied raisan gelato . Will certainly return

The pasts were very al dented but in s good way. Not many American restaurants make pastas with a bit of chew. They were tasty and the staff were friendly and hospitable. We have already recommended this place to friends.
