Everyone ordered something different & they were all DELICIOUS. Started with poutine & mussels - both fabulous. The halibut was the favorite between our group of 5 followed by the lobster mac n cheese. The HUGE pieces of lobster made that a full meal on its own! I highly recommend The Gage and will go back again & again.

Went with a friend who was visiting from out of town. He had the Fish and chips and I had the catch of the day - a delicious branzino served with sautéed summer veggies on a bed of celery root purée. He said it was the best fish and chips he’s ever had and I ate every single thing off my plate. You can’t go wrong. Reservations were definitely helpful since it was a busy Saturday afternoon in the summer.

Our family is staying at a nearby hotel, so we made brunch reservations for The Gage. From the moment we were greeted by our cheerful server to the arrival of delicious drinks and breakfast, our normally picky children raved. They’re 9 and 12, and noticed the excellent service, the menu accommodations, and the delicious food. According to the kids, these were the “best I have ever eaten in my entire life”: - breakfast potatoes -granola parfait -lemonade -ricotta pancakes We loved our experience and might even return tomorrow!

The Gage is a Michigan Avenue treasure — great bar, lots of seating, excellent menu choices. (Although how many diners in Chicago really like poutine?) Food quality and menu options are predictable and reliable. It would be hard to pile more salmon on The Gage’s salmon BLT! Its fish and chips is classic, the grains salad is surprisingly diverse (add your choice of a protein). Adventuresome as well. This was the first time I’ve had corn ice cream anywhere (Yes, the table happily shared it) and the bourbon ice cream wasn’t bad, either. The greeters and wait staff deserve accolades, too. Pleasant, they are, and adaptable. And if you’re in a bit of hurry (do try not to be!), so are they. Prompt as the food you ordered comes to your table, there’s no rush to move along.

We arrived early for our 4 pm reservations and were seated promptly. The Gage is really two restaurants. In the front is a sports bar with an elevated seating area. It is energetic with TV's tuned to sports and news. In the back is a quieter seating area where one can relax and unwind. We ordered two great tap beers and the cheese plate which is outstanding for $20. Three cheeses, honey, jam, toasted nuts, apple slices and toast. We then ordered a bottle of red wine, a pinot/grenache blend for $65. Quite tasty. We ordered the cheese with corn tortellini and the lobster mac which was $38. It might seem like a lot of money but there were chunks of lobster and it is a large enough serving for two people. We ordered the peach cobbler which the Gage says feeds 3-4 people . We ate the wonderful bourbon ice cream and took home the cobbler. It is a dessert large enough for 5-6 people. We spent two hours and were never rushed. Service was at our leisurely pace but also attentive. The manager checked on us several times. The Gage is a great place before an event to to meet friends after work. I highly recommend The Gage.

Tables are very uncomfortable. I am of avg height and could not put my feet flat on the floor in front of me because of the huge table base. Same problem at tables and booths. It’s a shame because the food was pretty good. But $28 for 4 shrimp is beyond ridiculous. For that price you should get 8. I won’t be going back..

Had a lovely pre-theater dinner (as always) at the Gage. We enjoyed the tuna tartare, poutine, pork chop, catch of the day (a grouper served elote style), and strawberry cheesecake. Service from our waiter and the bussers was excellent. The manager on duty, Fallon, also helped make the evening perfect by helping us with some food/theater logistics. Great date and pre-event option.

Nice outdoor midweek lunch; my green power salad was ok - under dressed, not much to it (a bunch of mixed greens thrown together w seeds and a couple of broccoli florets); chilled corn soup was the best thing I ate. Server seemed in a hurry, dropped of check before we finished. Not best experience at a place I frequent, maybe an off day.
