About Restaurant Muramoto
Small plate Asian fusion from a new perspective. Shinji Muramoto's flagship restaurant first opened its doors in 2004. It was, and continues to be, the realization of his creativity and his passion to bring new flavors to Madison. Here, Shinji offers his interpretation of the comparatively young style of cooking that is Asian fusion. It is his belief that this style of cuisine is best experienced in a small-plate format, as it promotes sharing and therefore creates the likelihood that his customers will attempt new things. ***Due to technical difficulties online reservations are not available at this restaurant. Restaurant Muramoto Ratings and Reviews
We always enjoy dining here. This is the first time we booked through Open Table - the menu on this website isn't up-to-date, which was disappointing because I had picked out a few dishes I wanted to try that weren't available. The Dessert Sampler is one of our favorite things about this restaurant and is a really great deal - 5 desserts to share for around $15. However, the desserts were a let down this time. The chocolate avocado cake was an Iron Chef challenge gone wrong. Spicy tuna roll is always delicious. The Asian slaw is also fantastic and a great deal - you get a huge mound of it and it's a great palate cleanser. This wasn't our favorite visit, but we'll still go back.
The restaurant was extremely warm. The sushi was disappointly the same? You basically had to use your hands to scoop it up cause chop sticks was impossible to pick up the flaky rice that did not keep the rolls or Nigiri in tact. So sad about this place. Luckily the merchant is right around the corner and will have to try another sushi place. Won't be back.
Good combination of sushi and various rolls, as well as entrees that they serve tapas style. The scallop entree in particular was one of the best dishes I've had at a restaurant in quite some time. Will definitely make it a point to come back if we're ever in the Madison area.
Large lunch portions; creative sushi as well as cooked menu; happily accommodated my gluten issues. Veggie roll with beets is remarkable. Cheesecake dessert indescribable and delicious.
In reservation I mentioned need for wheelchair access but arrived to find locked doors and NO signage. It's 26 years too late to require me to telephone for access outside a restaurant's door. When I complained, he pointed out the 1:4 slope freight ramp which leads to a narrow porch outside the restaurant, a connection blocked by a table and huge flower pot.
I hosted three other people for a farewell party for one person leaving town. We all ordered the "all you can eat" sushi. It's a great deal for people with hardy appetites but only one of us fit that description. I think we'd have spent less by ordering off the menu. Aside from that, it was great.
Was great but take a while for server to get our order. The plus thing is he did come to great us right away as soon as we sit down but He didn't came back for at least 15-20 minutes after, but not a big deal since we order food and drink right away just don't want him to ran way from us again.
We have gone here many times over the years and always enjoy Muramoto. The food is unusual and excellent and you can select a number of small dishes to try the great choices. And oveerall the expense is less than you'd expect from such a fine restaurant. The Asian Slaw is one of our favorites and this time we didn't think it was quite as good as usual. But overall this is a great restaurant.
The sushi was good. I like to eat a lot, so sushi usually isn't enough unless I sell my firstborn to pay for it, but this place was reasonable. Also, they were late to getting us seated by our reservation time, so they gave us a free round of drinks, which was super baller.
All four of us loved our experience. Three ate sushi, my hubby raved about the beef tongue especially. I'm on a ridiculously strict diet and don't care for sushi, but our server was very accommodating and wanted to make sure I had a good dining experience and I did! I had the hanger steak with bok choy -- the steak was so delicious, beyond what I'd expect in a steak house. We all loved our food, the music (reasonable volume for conversation) and prices. Service was very good as well. Highly recommend.
The space was too dark, a bit cramped and WAY too cold. (Yes, it was cold outside, but the heat could have been turned up) There were other diners eating with their coats on. Our server(s) were aloof and disinterested in making sure we were enjoying our meal. The food was good, however, making our evening somewhat pleasant.
We never have a bad experience. Always satisfying and eclectic. We are addicted to the asian slaw, and the crab croquets, and add a variety of creative sushi rolls from there. Good beer selection and reasonably priced. An overall great value and great dining experience
We remember when going to Muramoto was an exciting, flavorful event. We haven't been for a couple years, and this time the food was decent, straightforward and prepared well enough, but had none of the exciting flavor fusions that we remember from the past. Quite mundane.
My girlfriend and I went their for our anniversary and we both love sushi. This sushi was nothing short of being awesome and incredibly delicious. The food did not take very long to come out either. We also shared the ginger cake with mango whipped cream and green tea ice cream and it was amazing to say the least. The Cabernet they had was pretty good too. I'd definitely recommend Restaurant Muramoto for anyone looking for a romantic spot for a sushi date night. It also seems like a good place to go with some good friends.
I enjoy many of the sushi options in Madison - Red, Sushi Muramoto, Wasabi, and Restaurant Muramoto. They all serve great sushi, especially for the Midwest. But I come here for the atmosphere - I do not like to sit European style for some types of food and sushi is one of them. Restaurant Muramoto's seating is typical of an American style restaurant, you have your own table, no one is squeezed in right next to you, there is room on the table for a big plate of rolls, soy sauce dishes, glasses, and individual plates. Plus, it's quiet, relaxed, and you don't hear every aspect of your dining neighbor's conversation.
My husband and i went for all you can eat Sundays. It was yummy!! They obviously have a more limited menu for the ayce, but it was definitely worth the $30 if you can eat a coupke of special rolls each. The one thing that was lacking was an outdoor seating option; they have a patio, but the tables and chairs were stacked up.
i would definitely recommend the restaurant as a whole and the ayce Sunday special.
