$50 and over
Contemporary French / American
The concept of the restaurant is everything old school, using what they had and doing as they did before the break of the industrial revolution: approximately 1850. This was the last time food was more honest.

There are no blenders, mixers, choppers, ice cream machines, deepfryers, burr sticks, nor anything else with a motor--nothing with a plug. Food machines with motors made possible an imbalance of diet that had never occurred before: we could suddenly fry enough food to make ourselves sick, we could preserve food longer than its last dangling vitamin. Refusing food-enabling machines is another way to keep the food honest, and in reasonable balance. There is not even a freezer. No perishable ingredient may travel further than a good, strong horse. The menu will move absolutely in lockstep with the seasons, as okra and eggplant taper off and leafy greens move in, we must change ourselves to suit the product--not the other way around. What is outside is inside.

We had the most beautiful meal here over the weekend to celebrate our engagement. The food was carefully curated and abundant, the wine pairings spot on, and the service unmatched. I would recommend it to anyone looking to celebrate a special night out in San Antonio.

This is a hard restaurant to rate. The concept of sustainable, farm to table is not new, but Chef Michael is adding eclectic to the mix. However, his menu is small, his 7 step chef’s tasting menu misleading, and the menu itself suffers from not being thematically consist. I found the food mostly tasteless and without soul. And grossly over priced and pretentious.
The restaurant is tiny, so make a reservation.

The wine pairing with the 5-course meal was perfect. Loved their all fresh food, pre 1850's meal preparation philosophy. They all worked very hard to make sure everyone was happy and nailed it. Outstanding service, food and people.

Great meal, attentive service. For the quality and variety of food, I thought the prices for the tasting menus were very reasonable.

We did the seven-course sampling menu and could not have been more pleased that we did. Great flavors and presentation. Would repeat without hesitation.

This restaurant was fantastic! I would give it 6 stars if I could. The only reason I gave ambience 4 stars was because the food was so high class, I expected classical music or something a little more relaxing than rock and roll. However, 5 stars for their choice of rock and roll (boomer classics) and the volume was just right. This place is small (maybe 15 tables) which is probably the reason the service and food was so good. The portions are small, but the 7 course meal filled me up, and I’m a big eater. The 5 course tasting menu would have filled me up. The only critique for the chef would be add a few more greens to the salad! Us boomers need our greens if you know what I mean! Kudos to the chef and service staff for a truly wonderful dining experience.

Very disappointed. Food was bland, mediocre and a rip off. I don’t mind paying top dollar for something good, but this was a joke. Green bean Caesar was a few bland beans with no flavor. The escargot were ok, but no delicious juice to soak the bread in, just dry. The boar was a bore.

The food was fun and the experience was excellent. The only thing that kept it from being five stars was the fact that they called ahead for our dietary restrictions, and we told them that we were sober. They ignored it and gave us a wine list as we were seated. We reminded them. They served us alcohol (that we did not order or ask for) anyway. No apology when we asked for them to take away the drinks, they just said, "oh right, because you're sober" and then left. So, it felt really gross and like we were being a pain. It would have been nice to be offered a fun drink we COULD drink. However, that (plus the puking woman in the bathroom) were my only complaints. The food was excellent and the service was very good other than that!

Not that impressed at all. Service was phenomenal but everything else seemed average. My husband and I both did the 7 course meal with a wine pairing and left still hungry. I did not enjoy the gazpacho and thought all other items were just good…not worth the over inflated price.

We went for our anniversary and we’re impressed with everything that touched our tongues. Our waiter’s wine recommendation was excellent and even let my girlfriend taste hers before deciding on the one she wanted. You could tell the food was prepared with exceptional care and pride. Highly recommended.

Loved the concept of only using cooking techniques available in 1850 or earlier. Every course of our seven course dinner was delicious and the wine pairings could not have been better. It was expensive, but one of a kind! Totally recommend.

This was our first time here. Small place but cozy. They have an eclectic menu which includes a 5 course menu where you can select the food for each course. We splurged and did the Chef's Tasting 7 course Menu where the Chef selected each course for you. So you better be open to new foods and willing to color outside the lines so to speak. All I can say is that between the outstanding and professional service of all three servers, and the various courses presented by Chef Jen, we probably had one of the best meals we've ever had.

Overall, very satisfying. I ordered the combination charcuterie and the 7 course meal. The charcuterie was one of the best I’ve ever had, and a lot of the courses were incredible. There was no dish I didn’t enjoy. However, as good as it was, and as much as I liked it, I can’t say it was worth the $160 price tag. Although it is very much worth it if you can spend that readily and for a very interesting experience or a special occasion. It’s something everyone should try at least one time.

The staff provided outstanding service. The cooks prepare masterpiece courses, which were Michelin Star quality. We ordered the 5 course meal and it was almost too much to eat; actually it really was too much to eat. I upgraded my my entre to port chops. They must have weighed 3 pounds. Since we are not big drinkers, we did not order the wine pairing, but did enjoy a nice bottle of Reserve Bourgogne Pinot Noir. Our waiter Guermo was outstanding. All in all, an amazing dining experience. I highly recommend. Plan on spending 3 hours for dinner and some money, but well worth the experience. I'll be back!
