Ugly Duckling takes its inspiration from the intersection between Coastal BC's magical landscapes and the rich cultural heritage of North America’s oldest Chinatown. We offer experiential dining built around two promises: to serve you only those things which we have made by hand; and to work really, really hard to make you smile. We can't wait to welcome you.

    Our tasting menu is an individualistic, seasonally-driven experience celebrating Vancouver Island and paying homage to our Chinatown home. The menu is constantly evolving --dictated by the seasons, the farmers, and the whims of the culinary team. While most dietary restrictions can be accommodated, due to the intimate nature of our kitchen, we are unable to fulfill requests for sesame, soy, or finfish allergies. For all other dietary restrictions, we request 48-hours advance notice so that we can prepare to welcome you. The tasting menu is 6-plus courses, priced at $118, and we encourage guests to set aside two-and-a-half hours to fully enjoy the experience.

    Run. Do not walk to book the absolute best dining experience in Downtown Victoria: The Ugly Duckling. Every course in the 5 course seasonal tasting menu was superb. Rich nuanced complex flavors made each bite a gastronomic experience. Unmatched attentive service with courses paced just right. If Victoria could receive a Michelin Star it would be awarded to The Ugly Duckling.

    Our dinner last night (Sat June 7) at Ugly Ducking was simply sublime. I now have a new favourite tasting menu in Victoria, we will certainly be back. Plan for 2 hours, which is the perfect time to enjoy a wonderful dinner.

    A feast for the eyes and the taste buds. So much love and effort went into each dish. We will definitely be returning.

    Chef Mathany has created a very impressive tasting menu featuring seasonal ingredients with Asian fusion nuances. The Ugly Duckling is truly a gem in the Vancouver Island culinary scene. We will definitely be back for more of the continually evolving menu. Well done Corbin!

    Quite frankly the food was some of the best we have had, surpassing some Michelin starred restaurants we have eaten in. The menu is very well thought out and service was casual, friendly and informative, the information and recommendations of British Columbian wines was great. Although not inexpensive, we still thought it was still value for money for the level of skill level involved in preparing food of such quality. My one gripe is the restaurant is in Canada and not the United Kingdom!

    What an incredible meal! The artistry was evident in each of the prix fixe courses -- 8? We did not realise what an outstanding culinary experience we were in for, adolescents and adults included, over three lovely hours. We are especially grateful that Ugly Duckling was able to accommodate our party's various food restrictions (vegetarian, GF, DF, etc.). The chef has the wonderful routine of coming out of the kitchen to explain each course, and we loved the incredible care chef and other staff showed for the cuisine and guests.

    Excellent dining experience! Amazing food and service. The wine pairings were excellent. It wasn't cheap, but was worth every penny!
