While the food and service was good, the restaurant was very noisy and unfortunately we were seated next to a loud group that was using foul language, non-stop swearing from one of the female guests complaining about her work colleagues. We thought about saying something to them but were concerned that we might make things worse.

Amsterdam Brewhouse & Restaurant is a very nice restaurant in the Toronto harbour. We had Brewhouse guacomole, Thai Tiger Curry and Red Rose Pizza. Overall the dishes were very good. Pizza had a ketchup-like sauce that spoiled its taste a little bit, but not too much. Frozen lime margarita was delicious but not completely frozen. Hoppy flight of beer had four different IPA beer of 5 oz size each and were very delicious. The noise level was very high but what can you expect from a brewhouse with lots of people enjoying themselves loudly.

The food was fine. We ordered the Chicken, Avocado and Bacon, Brown Butter Lobster Roll and the Virgin Patio Punch mocktail. What we liked the most was the chicken and the mocktail. Additionally, the view was spectacular!

The patio upstairs definitely redeemed the place for us. It was a gorgeous day, and being right by the water with a view was nice. However, there was construction happening at the brewhouse and sitting on the ground floor patio would be taking a sip of your drink plus a side of saw dust. I’m not quite sure why they would commence construction work while serving patrons outside. Sure it wasn’t right beside the patio but wind travels and particles are carried easily through the air (I mean, look at how our air quality got affected from the forest fires provinces away). The beers were good, and I would expect nothing less since they are a brewhouse. Food wise, mediocre at best in terms of what I tried. The rose city pizza was surprisingly bland even through there was pepperoni and other ingredients on it. The smokehouse burger was so dry. I couldn’t even finish the half I had. I did hear the brisket dinner was good so maybe I should I had that. I’d come back for drinks on the patio but that’s about it.

Beautiful space with great views from the patio however the service was incredibly slow even tho it was fairly empty. Server was not engaging at all and made a number of errors during service leading in us waiting over 15 minutes several times for a drink. If you have a lot of time to hang around and don’t care for good service it’s a lovely place to watch the boats and planes.

I was there to celebrate my birthday with a good friend of mine, who I had not seen in months. When I first arrived the patio entrance had a sign telling me to go to the main entrance. So I went to the main entrance and was told to go back to the patio entrance, which had just opened (and the sign was now different). I’m not sure why the other hostess could not have just seated me on the patio instead of making me walk back to the patio entrance, but I am guessing this is the standard procedure that she was trained on so I won’t fault her for that. I was first seated at a small table by the water very close to where they were renovating the side patio and the saws were loud, so I asked the hostess to move to a table a bit further away, as I have tinnitus and I am sensitive to noise. She said no and gave me a b.s. excuse with a little attitude in her delivery (not feeling very welcome at this point), but fortunately another couple kindly offered to switch, otherwise I probably would have asked to speak with the manager. The server who was then assigned to our table was the worst I have ever experienced in all of my years of dining out. We waited half an hour for our first drinks, and were often waiting at least fifteen to twenty minutes with empty glasses. One time the server came back when we were still waiting for our drinks and he asked how we are doing, as if he forgot that we were still waiting for our beers, and we told him “we’re so thirsty.” I had the chicken, avocado and bacon wrap, which was pretty decent, but the fries were cold, and one of my beers was luke warm, as if it had been sitting for half an hour waiting for our server to actually bring it to our table. I may return one day, but it will probably be a while, and I hope that when I do, you have taken the opportunity to address the customer experience issues noted above. All the best, Byron
