   Last night, my wife and I tried The Renaissance Cafe in tiny Assaria, KS (pop. 428). Who would have thought that one could find a high end, elegant and locally sourced dining experience in such a town? Although the menu items were exquisite and the service is what you would expect at a 5-Star international city, I was most impressed with the vision that the proprietor must have had when he/she first walked in to this dying abandoned rural school. This creatively repurposed space fulfilled this entrepreneur’s passion and revitalized the entire little town. What a truly unexpected treat!

   Great food extensive wine list. Excellent waitstaff. We had trout, duck, ,chicken, steak and crab cakes. Not a big menu but everything was fresh and delicious. Thank you doug/Steve.

   The Renaissance is ready for you! They ask about the occasion but they really are checking your mood, then they work with you to get you the food for your mood and the libation that suits it as well. This place is always happy to see you and you are happy to be there!

    What a nice dining experience! The food was delicious and beautifully presented and the ambience was unique. Everyone in the party was happy with their selection. The duck breast was wonderful and the chocolate crème dessert was exquisitely delicious. Highly recommend.

    Steaks were very tough not cooked correctly, vegetables were not cooked enough needed a knife to cut , service was good ambiance was very nice but the food was terrible

    We enjoyed our time so much! It was fun to walk around and look at all the books and pictures on the wall. Our waiter was top notch; we liked his Venezuelan accent. The food was delicious. It was expensive, but we spent 3 hours there, so the whole experience from beginning to end was extraordinary, something special. Save up, and don't miss it!

    Outstanding dining experience from the appetizers, main course to the desserts. The dinner bill will be about 1.5-2 times more for the avg. cost per person than when typically eating out….but it is well worth it and was glad to pay more for what turned out to be a wonderful dining experience. I have certainly paid as much or more for what turned out to be bad food and service. You won’t get bad food or service here. The place was top notch and we are trying to figure out when we can return. Hopefully soon!

    Having been there in the past we knew the food would be very good, and it did not disappoint. The service was very slow, whether that was the server’s fault or the kitchen we don’t know. Waiting for things to arrive it ended up being about a 2 hour meal.

    Food was high quality as expected, but my wife’s ribeye was cool when it was served and had to be sent back for more grill time. The server, Doug, was excellent and compensated for the ribeye with a free dessert. Appreciate the gesture!

    Our server, Shane had very good knowledge of the food and preparation. He waited on his tables efficiently. He was friendly and courteous. This was our first trip back after COVID. The food was good but I wasn't excited by it. I like to order entrees I wouldn't make at home. I had the Beef Cheek ravioli. I was a bit disappointed, I expected the meat to have a little bit of chew. But I was put off by the amount of chew with them. I eat heart and tongue, clams and abalone so consistency doesn't usually get to me. However the meat needed a lot of chewing and was shrewy and fibrous. I won't order that again. My husband had the scallops and they were amazing. The wine list was wonderful.

    This establishment provides sheer enjoyment. The setting is unique, interesting and fun. The food preparation is thoughtful and perfectly executed.     Venue is very nice and cozy for date night. Salad starter was very good, but tiny portion. Polenta cake was flavorless. Veggie side again was tiny. Canolli dessert was disappointing and very dry with little creme inside, not what I expected. We've been here several times before and enjoyed our dinner.     We had our reservation and were seated fairly quickly. Then forgotten. We waited a long time for someone to notice that we were sitting there. Once we were noticed, the staff apologized, took our orders, and we waited. And waited. Others who came in after us were served, and we waited. And waited. More apologies. And we were praised for our patience. Once the food arrived, we enjoyed our experience, as we often do when dining there. My wife and I felt self-conscious, like we had done something wrong to be ignored for so long. For the price of the experience, I think that the restaurant can do better than how we were treated.
