Rei do Gado Brazilian Steakhouse
Rei Do Gado is San Diego's first Brazilian barbecue restaurant, open for over 2 decades. We follow the same traditional style of cooking meats, which are then served by are finely trained Gauchos. The churrasco (Brazilian barbecue) is a traditional feast that has been celebrated in Brazil for centuries. It is a unique and healthy way of roasting meat over a mesquite flame that preserves tenderness and gives it an unmatched taste.

Although I understand Covid and the restrictions that apply. I encountered several irate customers waiting to be seated operating the hostess with questions and extreme rudeness. Because this didn’t have much help she had to leave the podium on multiple occasions. The server asked us to wear gloves which were at the front entrance however they were thrown awry. I suggest maybe the hosts providing gloves to each table? Just wasn’t as sanitary as it should be. Food was great as usual. There was confusion surrounding the lobster portion of the meal as well. The host did her best to accommodate the large crowds however, with more of the public starting to go out maybe a second host would be beneficial. The front door was total chaos.
The tables were so packed together and not socially distanced at all during covid. We were literally less than a foot away from the other tables on all sides. The meat was cut on your table so it’s not really safe during covid. The meat quality was really inconsistent especially for the price we’re paying. The pineapple was good and the service was decent. A bit slow but understandable since the place was packed (during a pandemic).

We have been here several times. Made reservations at opening and had to wait a little for our food. Food was okay this time.
Seriously, you’re a steakhouse, sharpen your knives. We were literally squeaking our forks on the plate just to cut the meat served. Knives were completely dulled. I can handle the noise and over crowdedness if it’s worth it. Service was spotty as far as our waiter refreshing our water and answering any questions. We ordered a cocktail that took 30 minutes to get and we had to flag someone down at that. The meat served was grisly. Over all it was ok. I’ve had better at other Brazilian Steakhouses. Expected more from San Diego. Sorry to say, disappointed.

Thank you for your honest review! Unfortunately due to the time of arrival we cannot replenish a full buffet bar if it is too close to closing time. Rei Do Gado is concentrating on preventing food waste, and increase of food pricing. We do recommend making a reservation at least 90 minutes prior to close. During peak dinner hours, the buffet bar may also be low in supply. Our staff is trained to accommodate all request, please notify a team member for requests.
Came to SD to celebrate my bday and came across this place. Food was amazing and all of the staff was very friendly and so attentive. I will definitely come back!! All of the meat was delicious and they have a wide variety of sides to choose from. It was a great night!

Asked for a table away from others so it could be more private for my husbands birthday. They provided that sanctuary. Food was the best we had in all our visits there.

While the pandemic and crazy CA rules continue to plague this State, I can understand this is a tough time for everyone and businesses. So please take my review through this lens. But... I stood inside by the door Valentines day weekend for lunch waiting to be seated for about 10-12min no one was there to greet me. I was eventually greeted and taken to a table which was super wobbly and had no silverware. The waiter eventually put a towel under a leg to fix it (this is a 5 star restaurant mind you which I have been to many times ...see pic). I went to get a plate and was told I needed to be served at the buffet part. The plate was served with food hanging off the edge. Later I found out (which no one mentioned at the beginning) that I could have put on gloves (which were not very visible and no sign seen) and served myself. I got my food and sat at my table with still no silverware in sight. The server brought silverware and my drink left it on the table and left no saying a word or seeing if I needed anything else. The drink was brought about 20min after I started eating.
The food was incredible as always and no gripe there. The service was sub par mainly by the servers where I felt like just a number. The poor guy who was carving/presenting the meats was working his tail off. They were completely understaffed (and it was Valentines day weekend mind you) where there was one server, carver, and bartender. Towards the end of my dining experience, more staff showed up and it looked like the manager stepped in to help.
While I will definitely be back someday, I wrote this review (slightly disappointed) hoping these things will be addressed and fixed soon so guests can fall in love with this place as I always had once again. Thank you!
Visited the restaurant two weeks in since outdoor dinning was allowed. There was only one other table occupied while we ate. At such, meats were made to order and other that were already made seemed to have dried out. Overall quality was good, service was great, but it would have been more enjoyable when there were more people and meat were prepared without consideration of the number of people in the restaurant.

Went for Thanksgiving dinner during the shutdown. We did not have high expectations due to all the new restrictions. We were completely wrong! This place was just as delicious for a big event as they were before the shutdown. Plus they had turkey! I’m going next year again.... who wants to cook/clean at home....
Being able to sample so many options of meat, chicken and seafood is amazing. All was superb. We are looking forward to going again.
outstanding is a good word. We ate for an hour and a half and walked away in a food coma, We will definitely be back. It was a fine value. I don't take the trouble to write many reviews, but they deserve it.

My wife and I were celebrating our love. All the steaks and cuts were amazing- whatever they have with garlic is my favorite. None of the buffet/salad bar items were good... I was happy with our waiter and the location of our seats
Despite of the COVID-19 and how things are changed we were still very satisfied with our food. Didn’t noticed that the service was lagging a little but we didn’t mind due to catching up with a friend. But the wait staff were great and made sure we were not forgotten. All in all it was a great lunch. We had a wonderful time.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in San Diego. My wife being from Brazil this gives her a taste of home. Always very respectful and the food is top notch

Waitstaff was phenomenal. Very attentive, professional and polite. Ambiance was nice...they have an outside dining area with fire tables that's a nice touch. Due to COVID the "experience" isn't quite the same (having the meat cut from the skewer at the table) and you now have to wait for the staff to bring you your meat and salad bar selections. This would have been a five star review if it weren't for the meat, which is supposed to be the star of the show. We tried about 8-10 different selections and 80% of them were all way too salty or very over cooked. Just not the quality or flavor I remember.

Was an interesting evening as the restaurant is trying very hard to meet diner's expectations in a COVID environment.
Which brings me to a single concern. Because staff had to bring side dishes to the table, as opposed to a salad bar, they had to make many trips. Could have saved them some steps by bringing large portions.
The service was exceptional. The food great.
It was our first time venturing out for dinner since April 2020. It was definitely a great experience. We had no expectations besides going to a restaurant we both like. It was actually nice to not have to get up and and get our own sides. More of a fancy experience I believe. I loved that they were attentive with our request even though they were visibly busy. They actually remembered my husband, I almost bet him they wouldn’t remember him.

Excellent service, nice place and good food, but very expensive $180 for 2 and just 1 cup of wine and 1 mojito. for covid they minimized the menu. Probably they have to minimize the prices too.

Went there for the first time to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. I put it under special occasion when I made the reservation online but they must have missed the memo. Never mentioned once. The table next to us got the birthday song though. Overall the service was great. The food was good but I don’t think it was worth the price. I was paying for the experience and it was just another restaurant, nothing special. I wish I had picked a different place.
Anything from the menu won't disappoint you. As for drinks, try the Brazilian Bikini.

Food was delicious, staff was friendly, only downside was some of our side orders never came out. But overall, great experience.
Service is horrible, we wait more than 30 min for the food, server never show to the table. I was celebrating my wedding anniversary but i think that pick the wrong place.
