The building and restaurant’s rustic, high end decor is lovely creating a lush upscale dining experience. Staff are warm and competent including valet, hostess station, and servers. Unfortunately the menu is very limited, questionably executed, while excessively priced.
This was one of the best meals we've had on our visits to Asheville, worth every penny. I enjoy the dramatic decor (also in the hotel) and beautiful presentations of healthy food. In particular, the table for two in the back with the large leather library chairs made our experience much more memorable. Superb service! I recommend the 4-course tasting menu which was more than satisfying for my appetite, and will appeal to anyone who likes smaller than mammoth portions. Avoiding gluten and food sensitivities are not a problem. I ordered the elk menu that included a strawberry kale salad, a scallop course, elk served with perfectly cooked broccolini, mashed potatoes, and a huckleberry vincotto (wonderful discovery), followed by a gluten-free flourless chocolate dessert (they agreed to exchange the dessert on the menu for me). Oh the detail....the steak knives qualify as a work of art too. My husband ordered the intriguingly flavored carrot-rhubarb soup and halibut that was prepared like a work of art, from the regular menu. He preferred to try a lovely glass of port for dessert and next time I'll order one too. Thank you for the celebration of dining!
Came with friends. Wonderful dinner. Loved the decor. My daughter suggested it and we are so glad.
This is the third year we have gone here for our Anniversary. This one was special (50th) and they did not fail to delight us in every phase of the evening. My wife was being adventuresome and had a buffalo steak, I settled for what I knew to be great, the salmon. Both meals were outstanding with our selections cooked perfectly. They were made even better with the wine selections suggested for us by our waiter, David. The carrot cake, curtesy of the restaurant capped a great evening.
The food was awesome. Had a nice lodge atmosphere
We really enjoyed Red Stag, the food was great and overall the experience was wonderful. However, we cannot recommend the Grand Bohemian hotel, it was average at best.
Absolutely enjoyed our recent visit to the Red Stag Grill. The food is excellent, and the wine compliments the options well. The decor and overall vibe was first-class. Can't wait to return when I'm in the Asheville area again.
We were staying at the Grand Bohemian and decided to try this as a quiet Sunday dinner. We were not disappointed. It was all that and the food was outstanding. We will done there again.
The ambiance, menu and wine list were all a bit unique and unusual, but excellent. Had an Elk loin that was outstanding and the best escargot I have had on this side of the Atlantic.
We were a party of six. Excellent service!
Food was excellent and the service was terrific. I had the bison and my wife had the lamb. A bit loud at first but a large group next to us left shortly after we were seated. Highly recommend.
It was quiet and relaxing. Went to celebrate an evening out with my wife and we were both completely happy from start to finish. Highly recommend the this place.
Excellent service, the meal was great, and we loved the more private table we requested when we made the reservation.
Chip is the best bartender and server. Great place; great food; Best service! Seriously!
We had a most enjoyable evening last Saturday, 5/26, at the Red Stag Grill - an elegant bar/lounge and dining room with the feel of a classic steak house. David was our server and provided warm, yet professional attention. My husband decided on the 4 course Tasting Menu with the Strawberry & Kale Salad, Scallop Appetizer, Elk Loin and Grilled Pound Cake with Blueberry Compote and Vanilla Ice Cream. I ordered the same Salad, but opted for the Halibut entre and we shared a side of their Mushroom Risotto which was a featured special that night. I ended my meal with the White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake. Mike enjoyed their signature Manhattan, and I a glass of their house champagne. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented - one of our favorite dinners in Asheville.
The Restaurant is gorgeous making it eclectic and mysterious. The staff is cordial and knowledgeable. The food is amazing. Our new favorite place is Asheville. Date night once a month for sure!
Great food and drinks. Scallops cooked to perfection. Will go back.
We were vacationing in Asheville and it was recommended that we dine at the Red Stag Grill. The lighting fixtures and decorating were well worth the visit...and our waiter was knowledgable, friendly and professional. We started with lobster bisque...and although it was good...it was a bit too salty for our taste. The elk entree was outstanding...but the filet mignon was overcooked to medium...versus the medium rare that was requested. Although we were offered a new filet with many apologies...it just isn't the same as getting it right the first time. Dessert was on the house and was very good. Overall, I was disappointed...although I do think I would try it one more time.
We keep returning to the Red Stag Grill as their staff is so friendly and professional and the food is superlative. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Everyone's meal was presented perfectly. Corinne is the loveliest person and she always takes good care of us!
Great food and service! Wonderful atmosphere and service also!
A great way to finish a nice anniversary trip to Asheville.
excellent food, decor was great, service was attentive without being annoying.
even though it may seem dark, the menus light up. :)
A small plate 60 dollar a plate meal .. Sad
Sit down brunch was a great change from the larger buffets. Best menu options.
This was my first visit to Red Stag Grill and won't be the last! We went for Mother's Day with a limited menu and it was fantastic! The service was great and the food was outstanding. I look forward to another visit.
Celebrated our son's college graduation at the Red Stag Grill and everything was perfect. The food, service and atmosphere was outstanding! Would highly recommend!
What a wonderful evening..a birthday surprise for him turned into my engagement surprise... The waiter eat wonderful and did a great job.. Excellent good, and atmosphere.. Great for special occasions or anniversary.. We will be back next year...
Went for my husband’s birthday. We got a really nice table and service was excellent. They have a nice wine list. I had the sea bass special and he had the salmon. The food was good but not great. For the price, it should have been better so we were somewhat disappointed. We’ve been to the brunch and thought that is a better value. There are better places to go in Asheville so we probably won’t go back for dinner. We were offered a free dessert for my husband’s birthday so that was a nice touch. Our server was excellent. We enjoyed the dinner but just didn’t think it was anything special
Very beautiful ambiance. Good service. However, even though the menu items looked really interesting our party of five all agreed the goid was bland. We were there for a very special occasion, but jobefyoets to acknowledge it .
6 Friends and I ate here prior to our prom. Having never been here I asked someone who had. They recommended the Mountains River Elk Loin, as an avid hunter I took well to the idea of game meat. After eating my Elk Loin I couldn’t stop talking about how good and packed of flavor it was. Overall My Friends and I had a great time! Thank you all a lot
We were greeted as we pulled into their entranceway by valet service. We walked into a beautiful entry hall and was greeted by the hostess then taken into this beautiful restaurant. The service was perfect and we were very well taken care of. Everything from cocktails to dinner was excellent. We really enjoyed our dinner. It was our last night in Asheville and it ended with a very memorable meal. We love Asheville!
The food and service at this restaurant are excellent. The kitchen deserves high praise for its creative, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented cuisine. We had the chef’s four course tasting menu with premium wine pairings and every course was beyond excellent. From The kale salad to a beautiful scallop plate to incredible elk loin and dessert we felt giddy with delight. Will definitely come back soon - it’s an amazing restaurant!
The food was too salty even after requesting light salt on my order.
My wife took me here for my birthday because she knows I love steaks. The steak was outstanding as was the sides. They gave us a free desert to share to help celebrate my birthday. The service was outstanding all together it was a great meal and a great experience we will go back.
Red Stag Grill ranks with my favorite restaurants...
-One if by Land, Two if by Sea. NYC
-Sequoia in Georgetown
-Le Bernardin NYC
This place was fantastic. Loved the menu options, with non-traditional meat choices. Can't wait to return.
A delicious and delightful treat in Asheville. Reviews were right: food was so good. Best pork chop my husband ever had. And he’s had quite a few across the world! Service was perfect- didn’t rush us. There was a guitar player in the bar but we didn’t hear from the dining room so we were able to converse. Place was packed so everyone else must know how good it is!
Not cheap or great, much better places in downtown Asheville to eat. But if it's late and you don't want to drive anywhere it will do.
