Austin is who I spoke with by phone regarding the thanksgiving menu options as well as reservation options, hands down the sweetest most kind person I’ve encountered in a restaurant. Austin was extremely thorough and just seemed genuine in his upbeat attitude.
The restaurant was clean and everyone was seated well distanced.
The service was decent, a little slow for not being completely full. The server forgot an item we ordered and didn’t circle back until we were about 1/2 way done with our food so we didn’t receive it. The greens beans were very crunchy and could have been cooked longer. The salmon was amazing as well as the ceviche and clam chowder.
Overall the experience was nice.
I can’t say enough about Austin. What a truly lovely first impression and a reason to make a reservation and/or return.
It was our first experience here, very enjoyable for our Thanksgiving. The Cesar's salad was the best ever!
Wonderful time both visits. We loved breakfast and the view and service were amazing. We came back for cocktails later in the evening and loved the drinks and again - great service! We had our family Thanksgiving there and it was perfect.. right down to the dessert port and excellent pumpkin pie. We will be going back tonight to sample some appetizers and enjoy some drinks.
Great atmosphere,,,vegetables needed more seasoning no taste...
Went for Thanksgiving. The A la carte menu was limited, while they had a preset holiday menu. I wish there was a turkey alternative on the preset menu like last year. Ended up having surf and turf which was very good.
Great spot for late afternoon view of the Bay, friendly and courteous staff.
Convenient dining with wonderful views of the harbor while staying at the Hyatt Regency. The wait staff was superb - friendly, helpful and attentive; however, the food varied greatly in quality. Two in our party had steak, which while well seasoned and flavorful, was very tough. Another had the cauliflower steak, which was burnt in several places. On the other hand, the truffle infused mac & cheese was fabulous - smooth, creamy, with a balanced truffle flavor! With a sharper focus on food quality, this could very well be a most excellent dining experience.
One dish had to be recooked twice due to temperature.
We really enjoyed our meal outside on the spacious deck overlooking the marina. The food was excellent and the servers were great. Lots of heaters and 2 large firepits create a lovely ambience also once it is dark.
It's a Friday night, not crowded. The food is served hot and fresh. We've shared the King Seafood Bake and the Duck confit salad. They were excellent, especially the Duck. The combination of the salad they mixed, go perfect with the duck. Excellent.
Great food and service, beautiful place. Will go back.
Maine lobster and shrimp scampi was delicious. Chocolate mousse was outstanding!
Outstanding service and wonderful food! They went above and beyond for my family!
My wife and I were looking forward to this meal. We had heard very positive reviews about Red Marlin. The service was excellent. Frank was the perfect, respectful server.
The menu offered outstanding options. My appetizer, the crab claws was very good and came with a spectacular dipping sauce and unique red cabbage slaw. My wife’s clam chowder was also wonderful. I ordered the shrimp and lobster scampi with noodles. I was very dissatisfied. The dish ($44) had small pieces of lobster and three shrimp which were advertised as “a tiger prawns”. They weren’t. The bulk of the dish was the noodles.#filler.
Aside from the small offering of seafood in this dish the price was not in line with the the value of the meal.
And there was a hidden 4% ”surcharge” on the bill, unexplained, until we asked our server. Turns out the hotel added a fee to offset the increase in hourly wage for their workers rather than raise the prices on the food.
Overall, considering the location, atmosphere (the music was too loud and not appropriate for dining (dance music), I’ll give it 3 out of 5 stars.
Service outstanding, food top notch . Look forward to our next visit.
The food was not very good - bacon was sliced super thin , menu not too great for the area we were It impressed
If you like over priced seafood, small portions and over cooked steak then this is the place for you.
We just had an amazing, delicious breakfast there. Baba and Eileen took great care of us. The best part was the quality of the food. Sounds simple, but the details made things so good! The crisp celery in our bloody Mary’s….the perfectly ripe avocado….the creamy goats cheese…..We will be back!
Terrace dining makes this a perfect spot for dinner. Great service & food.
Music selection was interesting. Perfectly cooked swordfish. Linguine was over cooked but our friend liked it. Frank was great. Ambiance wonderful. Will return perhaps next time for drinks by the fire pit.
Our dishes were delightful, some of the best we’ve ever had. We’ll definitely be back.
Canceled my reservation last minute. We resorted to eating poolside bar food.
Probably best that this restaurant just close its doors....Yikes!! When I made the reservation, I'd hoped for so much more. Initially made for 4 people, we learned that 2 more would join us. Open Door wouldn't allow me to modify to 6, so I called and left a friendly, detailed message about the change request. No response. When we got there, 6 people couldn't be seated together outside despite not a whole lot going on inside or outside. The front manager apologized for no one responding to me. I asked that we be seated somewhere with the best view possible, so I put us in the middle of what felt like a cafeteria. We could, however, see some boats out in the marina from afar.
Food-wise.....out of lobster and swordfish which limited the menu dramatically as it wasn't much of a list to begin. One would think with a name Red Marlin and located on Mission Bay, there would be a variety. Surf and Turf was still on the menu without lobster....substituted in its place was shrimp. I had that despite no break in the hefty $$ and it was good albeit a small serving of steak.
Wine menu was unimpressive, although they did take back a bottle of odd Barbera which tasted unlike any Barbera we'd ever tried.
The waiter was thrown when we asked to handle the check by (3) couples as we weren't sitting directly next to our spouses. We switched spots to accommodate his memory...he joked, "I'm just not that smart." He did keep us watered and wined through the night.
Bread tasted very bland and was possibly store-bought. Clam chowder was excellent!
It was just an odd experience and not one that any of us enjoyed or would recommend to others. Do yourselves a favor and skip the Red Marlin. There are lots of options around town.
Horrible food experience at every level.
The portions are very generous. We have the New York steak, the bigeye steak, clam chowder, jalapeño cheddar bread, and pots de creme dessert. We didn’t finish any of it because of the amount of food, but very tasty and unique spin on what would be a steak dinner. The server Praveen was absolutely amazing and attentive.
We were seated outdoors which is a nice setting and they did supply us with a heater as it was just a little chilly. The service was attentive. Charlie who was our waiter was very nice and helpful. I gave it three stars because the steak was not really that good. The macaroni and cheese and salad were very good. I would try it again but not order a steak.
Fabulous location, excellent wait staff (Frank and Pareem) and good food.
We went to dinner at RED MARLIN for my birthday with my daughter and her husband after spending the afternoon on a Duffy ride in Mission Bay. It was the only restaurant near by that had reservations available for the time we wanted. I was very happy with the entire experience, We ate on the patio, they had heaters available. The service was friendly and efficient, the food was fabulous. We all enjoyed our meals. My daughter has celiac and the menu had many gluten free options for her. The prices are high but the value was good for the location, service and food.
The shrimp scampi was flavorless. Seasoning! Seasoning! Seasoning!
Great food and service. Can’t beat the marina view!
Pleasant outdoor setting next to marina. Limited menu and they were out of swordfish. My wife and I had an enjoyable dinner
Food was terrible table was sticky we went on kids bday and were super disappointed
Great location / setting, but food was expensive and lacked flavor. Wouldn’t go back.
Grandkids to Sea World
Great food. Kind of pricy for the ambience but the staff was nice.
Grandkids to SeaWorld
Food was outstanding! Service was superior
Horrible food. However our server “Charlie” was outstanding. Feel bad for him that he has to deal with such dismal food.
Great meal and service!
Our group had a positive dining experience at the Red Marlin last Friday evening. Everything we ordered was tasty. The service was excellent. Highly recommend if you are staying at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina.
