I had made a reservation for 9:30 on opentable. On arrival I was greeted by a locked door opened by someone who was on the phone. Then I was told it was closed till 10pm by another. On re arrival I was greeted by an individual who said they were no longer serving dinner and on top of this the individual was unaware of any involvement with open table leaving me a little more shocked. Very disappointing experience (for a Saturday night especially).
This place is advertised as a "small plate"/tapas place to eat, but it is more a bat that serves food. The food was also advertised as "Asian" but the closest to Asian that was offered was their hummus. The food was decent enough, but the atmosphere was not one for "dining" or as a restaurant. Service was somewhat slow.
The food was amazing. Service was excellent and we had a blast.
I went there with my husband and the music/drinks/food were very good. We had an awesome date night
We tried this restaurant on a week night and it was fairly empty. However, the food was good. The only item we didn't like was the tuna skewer: the tuna was overcooked for our taste. Otherwise everything else was cooked well. Try the curried sweet potato green pea samosas and the Thai coconut curry crab: they are delicious. The mushroom leek & Gruyere fritters were very tasty. The lamb and the falafel sliders were good as well. And don't forget their risotto: phenomenal (they are not an Italian restaurant but their risotto is cooked perfectly)!!
I've been to Red Maple many times for drinks, so I wanted to try it for dinner. What a huge mistake! The service was terrible b/c there were so many large groups there at one time with only one server! Our food took forever to come out and when it did my salad was completely missing dressing. We sat at these low large couches and the music was so loud that I couldn't hear my friends talking across the table from me. I also ended up choosing two items on their menu that were not available...I was told they were "out of season." If that's the case, why wouldn't the menu's be updated to reflect this. What a huge disappointment!
My husband and I went to Red Maple for a pre-concert dinner and were pleasantly surprised by Red Maple. The vibe, music and food exceeded our expectations. Every dish we had was delicious, especially the chorizo tacos. We live in DC and go out to dinner frequently and enjoyed our dining experience at Red a Maple more than recent dining experiences in DC. Our only complaint is they need more wait staff. Our poor waiter was running around all night without a chance to breathe. He did the best he could but he could have used help. The seating hostess ended up helping throughout the night.
We will definitely go back again. Great place!!!
Ibloved the decor theyvseating could be cleaned or updated but the cheese platter was great the salmon melts in your mouth the pork skewers were good the prices were right and the drinks were pretty good
Withstanding the overly intoxicated guy that interrupted our dinner and started a fight in the middle of the restaurant everything else was satisfactory.
The bench seating needs to be cleaned behind the back rest. The tables could be a bit higher makes eating difficult to sit a bit higher than the table. Look of restaurant is nice. Dj for the most part is great. Food is good out of 6 small plates the dumplings were cold. (Server replied they were hot when I picked them.) No asking if I wanted another batch. (Good thing they were to go for later anyway). I would go back. Overall it was nice.
Red Maple is not a spot for older diners. Too dark, too load, too worn. Service started out good and went down hill. If we were to go again it would be later & we would sit at the bar. As we were arriving at 6 they were taking a reservation for a party of 6 at 7. This might be what caused the service delay.
I had been to Red Maple a few times about 5-6 years ago and it was hip, chic, and one of the places to be in Mt. Vernon. I bought a Living Social coupon recently because it had been so long since I'd been to Red Maple... definitely not the same caliber it used to be at! It looked exactly the same at first glance, but when the host/waiter sat us, the laminate tables were full of black cigarette burn marks as were the bench cushions. The bench cushions were covered in an old scratchy burnt orange woven type fabric that reminded me of my grandmother's house. The same benches against the wall were also not attached to the wall, so every time I leaned down to get something from the low table, the bench leaned with me. I ordered a martini and my glass had old lip remnants from other lipstick/chap stick. The bartender also had to run out to the local store to buy olives for my martini. We came in around 6:30 on a Thursday night, and there was only one other table there. The women's bathrooms were also very drab and rundown feeling. All in all, you could tell that it used to be an amazing chic place, but the owner/management has not put any money into upkeep and replacing things. The only reason they are getting three stars is because the waiter was very pleasant and the food was good. I won't be returning to Red Maple. It makes me sad to see this place go so far down hill.
Haven't been here in awhile. Looked up menu including happy hour menu on line and was excited to go. When I got there, the menu had changed. Unfortunately, several items they were out of, so I found the menus limited. However, what I did order was very good! The chicken skewers and soft shell tacos were great (and tasty)! Also tried the pumpkin fritz which were good too. Wine selection was good as well. All in all, I enjoyed the meal.
I came to Red Maple to drink wine and snack. I ordered a couple skews and the cheese board which was perfect with tempranillo recommended by the bartender. A good cheese board is surprisingly difficult to find and this was a good cheese board. It included three cheeses with distinct characteristics, fruit and chutney for some sweetness and interesting breads. The only thing missing was the bowl of olives, which I'm hoping they'll add to the menu.
Went at 6 o'clock on a Friday and it was not very busy. It was rather cold inside as they had not turned the heat on yet on a cold November day. The heat seemed to be turned higher or on midway through the dinner. Food was great. Highly recommend the lobster dumplings, crab cakes and lamb burgers. Drinks were hit and miss. I disliked the Mz Behavin while the Jungle Fever was okay. Dessert was incredible, we got the pumpkin creme brûlée. Very good, could have been served a tad warmer though.
