Beef roast marinated for 5 days in our unique marinade, slow roasted and topped with brown gravy accented with tones of currants and ginger.
Succulent Gulf shrimp sauted in butter, Riesling wine, fresh garlic and secret herbs then tossed with linguini and lightly sprinkled with fresh parmesan cheese. Served with garlic French bread and a fresh garden salad.
During this time of Re-Opening, we felt safe with the procedures set into place for our health and well-being. The food was as fabulous as always!
Great schnitzels, and the Rathskeller's Amber beer was enjoyable.
The mustard was nose-tingling good!!
We had wonderful service. My schnitzel was a little dry. Could have been what I ordered. The prices were a little steep but you did get bread and soup or salad and two sides with an entree. One of the beers that someone in our party got was $12.50. He said it was good. We had a nice time celebrating Birthdays!
Reservations work out great when you have to catch a show. My husband and I were visiting Indianapolis. The service was good. The food was okay. My husband and I should have taken the option to share a plate. There is a charge, but it is a nice option.
We really enjoyed ourselves and plan to return again.
Made it a little more difficult to find a parking spot since the parking lot next to the Anthenaeum closed. Leave extra time for parking.
The food was good. The beer selection was excellent. However, our waiter was the best. He handled our table of 8 like a pro.
Menu diversity and meal preparation were excellent. Our server Jennifer was delightful and efficient. Nice to find a restaurant with great food, fantastic service, low noise level and pleasant ambiance.
Great place to have lunch. The service, food, and attention to detail was excellent!
Great food, great service, and we really enjoyed ourselves.
We were attending a concert at the Murat Theater and ate at the Rathskeller for our first time. Food quality was excellent and we liked the atmosphere. Our service was just OK. Our waiter wasn't very attentive and was very slow. The support staff on the other hand were very attentive, quick to fill a water glass or clear a plate. We will definitely be back.
1st time there. Excellent service, food was delicious. It was a great experience. Definitely will go back sometime.
We enjoyed dinner on a Saturday night at The Rathskeller. It was busy, with a large party right next to our table. Drinks and food were great. My husband and I both enjoyed the meal. We will return.
It was a really great place. The food and the service were wonderful. Recommended!
It was okay. Just not as good as it has been in the past visits
Excellent food, AMAZING service from a friendly and funny waitress, and a really cool vibe. Its a basement level restaurant with a legitimate German feel and food.
Sampler appetizer trays were very good. There were 10 of us and everyone enjoyed their meal. Both the authentic German dishes and the non-German dishes were good. Mike our server was great and helped make our evening that much more enjoyable. We sat in the bar area so it was noisy but mainly due to our group. The other part of the restaurant was like a library as far as noise level in case you wanted something quieter.
Excellent food and service in fun atmosphere
There was a beer crawl that was there at the same time as our reservation. People were every where, yelling at each other across the room, being extremely loud and rude. Unfortunately, our table was right in the part from the main dining area, entrance and the bar area. My suggestion would be if have a beer crawl, dont sit anyone in that area. You can’t enjoy your dinner especially when they are there 20 minutes past time.
I like the idea of having a German Restaurant here in Indy, and the restaurant feels authentic, but I found that the food is nothing like the food in Germany. It tastes mass produced, the potato pancakes are pastey and not authentic at all , nor is the Schnitzel. I do like the varied sausages and mustards, but that is about it..
The menu is huge ...and most of it is not German. It would be better to have a smaller, but more authentic menu, where the food is tasty and prepared with care.
Large portions, but they left all of their seasoning in Germany. Bland. Went there for VDay, including apps and drinks, total came to $50/person. Poor value for price.
The food is very good and the service was great. Fun people that make you feel welcome and like you are a friend.
Our server Jane was amazing and very friendly and helpful thank you so much for your service we love this place our number one restaurant
WoW! waitress must have been new, took 35-40 minutes after we were seated JUST TO GET BREAD AND ORDER APPETIZERS, ordered green beans received peas
This was my first dinning experience at the Rathskeller and it was wonderful. The food and beverages I consumed were excellent. The ambiance was fantastic and the service was outstanding. I was plesently surprised by the low noise level in the dining room. I will dine here again.
The atmosphere was perfect, and the food didn’t disappoint! Jen, our server, was excellent!!
The only thing negative about this restaurant is that the tables are packed in very tight. The food and service were fantastic, and we've already been talking to other people about how they need to dine here.
Great place. Authentic food. Love the historical building.
Food was excellent and waitress was engaging and very friendly.
Our server was AWESOME and definitely played to her audience. We did the devour menu so the price was reasonable and the food was great! We had a reservation and the staff was very accommodating. Overall it was a perfect night out with friends.
My wife was dissapointed in the Sauerbraten, as it was pretty dry and a little tough to chew.
Great food and great time with family. Rathskeller is now my son's favorite place to eat. He already wants to go there for his birthday in December!
Always authentic German food. Always delicious. Staff is wonderful.
Great family dinner for my husbands birthday!
Good food and the environment could better if they utilized more of the restaurant space. They jam everybody in one little room of a huge restaurant and it's very noisy and cramped. The food is delicious and the wait time for it was acceptable. The staff, at least on Sunday, are all very young and mostly apathetic. They do their jobs, but defintiely do not go over and above the minimum. Very few German cuisine restaurants in the city, so if that is what you want, you have to go here. The prices, even for lunch, are quite inflated, but again, they corner the market on German food. There is no real discount to go to for lunch as opposed to dinner here. My son likes German food, so I will go again, I'm sure...if he didn't, there are far better value and quality restaurants for the money.
Great food and atmosphere. Our first time there and we plan to go back.
I’m still lusting over the meat and cheese tray with the best pretzels and brown nutty bread ever. We had the stuffed strip, very good and the waitress was knowledgeable enough about the kitchen to help us get them done properly to our tastes. The dessert menu is amazing but I was surprised it didn’t have a German Chocolate cake. I didn’t love the German potatoes but the red cabbage was tangy and terrific. I would like to eat there again soon.
The Rathskellar may be my favorite Indianapolis restaurant! The food and service are consistently excellent. The beer choices are always plentiful. The ambience of the building is tough to beat.
We absolutely love the food here and the atmosphere, but for the second time the service has been absolutely horrible! It took us 25 minutes for someone to even Acknowledge we were there and to get us drinks. I am not sure we will return after two bad experiences with bad service, sadly!
