Bavarian Flair in Downtown Indy! Set in the historic, 19th century Athenaeum Building downtown, The Rathskeller is reminiscent of both a quaint inn tucked in the Bavarian hills and a lively beer hall in Munich. We feature traditional German entrees and a full range of salads, pasta, seafood, beef, pork and chicken entrees. If you can't find your time slot for your reservation, please call the restaurant at 317-636-0396.
Center cut pork loin cutlet pan fried in our own special breading. Topped with lemon slices and served with a special lemon dipping sauce
Everything was great! Wayne and staff made took wonderful care of us.
I lived in Germany for 2 years and loved the cuisine. The dishes served her are so very authentic. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Highly recommend this restaurant. Looking forward to going back
In town for a wedding
First time visit. Worth the 100 mile drive
I used to love The Rathskeller, but it seems like they have changed their menu a bit and I wasn’t impressed with the food. The appetizer was not hot, the cokes were flat, the entrees were lack-luster. The soup of the day was cream of tomato the the vegetable of the day was mixed vegetables. Not very special. The prices are very high for what you get. On top of that, the service was slow and they weren’t busy. All that said, it could be they are struggling to get help like everywhere else, so maybe I need to give them a break. The atmosphere was as great as always.
Old world gem. Friendly stuff, and traditional palate.
Attended before a concert. The food was great
the band was warming up at the same time but was just hitting one note on the drum over and over again for 5 minutes and it was extremely loud. The service was very slow and our server was overworked.
Napkins and side plates were dirty, pretzels was wrinkled and doughy, not what I expect from a Bavarian style restaurant.
Great service and great food!!
The wait staff was very good but the bartender kept sending me the wrong beer. The beer list is impressive. The decor is great. The pretzels and mustard are fabulous. The schnitzel was good. But this is not the place to order seafood or pasta! Also I expect greens not basic lettuce when getting a salad in a higher end restaurant like this is purported to be.
Staff made the visit enjoyable and accommodated changes in guest needs.
Really enjoyed our dinner. Such a unique setting. Cozy and inviting.
Meals were delicious. Hardy servings. Kind and personable staff.
Great atmosphere and German food was delicious
Appetizers were great. Got the soup and it was only lukewarm and because of that not very good. Potato salad was great as usual. Our server was fantastic.
Food was great- prices on the menu seem high, but everything you get with the meal makes it worthwhile. Service is the best I have seen in some time.
Good service, food was good, hot and served timely.
Robin was our server and she did a fantastic job!
It was awesome! Service was perfect and the food was amazing!!
Great dining experience from start to finish. Wonderful, high quality authentic German cuisine!
Always a wonderful experience!
A little noisy and prices are somewhat high. Drinks and beer overpriced
We enjoyed a pretty quiet meal. The food was great, but our server was not as engaged as I'd expect
It was super hot in here. Food was ok. Sever was best so it’s not he fault
The best food with the best selection of beers. Our go to place
Food was very good. I came away the way from Texas on a recommendation of my mother in law
Rods and Cones were playing in the next room. Great dinner music. Seriously. The Rathskeller has the best atmosphere of any restaurant in Indy.
Always a family tradition we enjoy. Great service and amazing food and atmosphere.
Had the Sauerbraten and the meat was so tough you could barely cut it with a table knife. Steamed Spinach was good but a little cool. The Spatzel was different from any I'd had before and not quite to my liking. Service was excellent.
The service was amazing the food was delicious the best thing about the whole night was the waitress we had was honest ,funny and took really good care of us
Love the Rathskeller! It's a very traditional looking and feeling German pub with a huge food selection (almost a little overwhelming). I got a hot sausage platter that was great. My sandwich was a German hamburger and I just wish I would've gotten a side that wasn't fries (my only disappointment).
Food and service were very good. Service was fast despite it being very busy. They were flexible with the entree (allowed us to split an entree without buying an extra plate).
Have been here multiple times even though we are from out of town. We have always ordered their German entrees and enjoyed each of them.
The food was very disappointing. Texture of the sausages were soft; spaetzle tasted like flour clumps; kraut balls had no flavor. Service was good.
Good food great waitress.
Too expensive. Long time customer. Expect some inflation price increase but the mew pricing is not justified. Time to find a new favorite.
The historic building was nicely decorated for the holidays. This is a unique restaurant at least in Indy. The service is great, and the food is amazing.
Jennifer was amazing!! And the food and drinks were delicious!
Some colleagues and I had dinner here while in town for a conference. Two of us are already fans of German cuisine while the third had never tried German food. We were all impressed with the quality of the food as well as the generous portions. The guy who had never tried German food said that he will definitely be dining at German restaurants in the future. The two of us who were already fans will definitely be back the next time we are in Indy.
Great dinner! Alyssa was great waitress! We had a great time as family there!
Rathskeller does NOT pay attention to OpenTable. We asked for back room but because there was a party we could not have it. We understand but they should have accompanied us in a good way even though it wasn’t the back room. Instead THEY PUT US IN THE HALLWAY. The manager did work with us to make it better. Waitress was excellent; food very good. Excellent German food
Friendly, professional, and helpful staff. Warm and inviting family environment. Great food and drinks. Overall, fun and enjoyable experience.
