Despite all necessary precautions due to Covid 19, we had great food and fabulous service. I would highly recommend it. For us it was fantastic to finally get out and have a fabulous dinner.
Good food, nice atmosphere
Service very good
Overall it's a great experience ... The bread is so crispy, perfect when mixed with honey butter. The scallop is the best! The only regret is that there's no special offer for celebrating the anniversary.
The rib cap was amazing and so were the whipped potatoes. Everything we had was good.
2nd time we've eaten there, first was terrific this visit was good. Co-Vid probably onky reason not as good menu limited from last visit. We'll still be back.
We love EVERYTHING about our experience here. This was our 2nd trip and we come all the way from Chicago to eat here when we can. Our server, Genevieve, is the best you could ask for. We will definitely be back, thank you for taking great care of us!
Very knowledgeable waiter. Awesome dry aged steaks
As always, SUPERB experience. We have NEVER had anything less. Moving from Chicago a year and a half ago, we quickly became RARE lovers, as this sits right up there with the quality, ambiance and service level of a renowned Chicago steakhouse. From the moment we are greeted by the hostess, to when we step out the door to depart, the experience is fantastic.
We dined on this visit for my significant other's Birthday (we LOVE coming to RARE for all of the special occasions in our lives and has come to be a tradition!). We aren't quite comfortable dining indoors yet, with Covid, however, we requested a more-secluded table and they offered us 3 different locations within the restaurant - all offering privacy and plenty of distance from other guests/potentially high traffic areas.
Our waitress was upbeat, lively, welcoming, polite, courteous, timely and professional.
For food, we shared the Oysters Rockefeller (divine and so flavorful!), a "Wisco" Wedge -- split for us and so fresh, the 6 oz. Filet, the Bone-Ribeye, the Whipped Potatoes, Caramelized Onions and a side of Bernaise. All - just mouthwatering, melting in your mouth with every bite! The filet always cuts like BUTTER and the ribeye with a perfect amount of marbling. The potatoes are creamy and hold incredible taste while the caramelized onions were the perfect finishing touch. Love the garlic cloves that they garnish the steak with, as well - nice little addition and a great compliment to the protein.
RARE is without a doubt our go-to spot for steak and this restaurant checks off every box, every single time.
HIGHLY recommend. The perfect special occasion spot and a fabulous experience for anyone looking to host a client to dinner.
Thank you for yet, another wonderful experience RARE. You've done it again!
Wonderful experience, they took lots of safety precautions to account for the pandemic.
Our waiter was talkative but in a helpful way. Initially we were seated at a two person table in a dark part of an empty room but we asked to move and that was fine. Although the creamed spinach was recommended as a side, it was way too much creamed and I would not recommend it.
We ate outside and got a drag show or entertainment!! Was a bit windy but the food was excellent as always as was the service.
History of Rare has been great - it now appears they will not survive much longer - we probably will never be back and over the years, twice a year with a large group.
Expensive but yummy, especially for steak and wine lovers. Great wine list. Great steak list. Decadent other options like various oysters. It's a gourmand delight.
As always, food was delicious. Filet was tender and cooked perfectly with a fabulous crust. Crab cake accompaniment was delicious and nicely browned. My companions scallops were seared well and tender, cooked perfectly. The mediteranean salad was lightly dressed, fresh, and full of flavor. The honey-crema butter accompanying the popovers had little flavor and the popovers were not hot. But that is only a very tiny complaint. The table captain was timely and unobtrusive. Coffee was refreshed without asking. Food came with impeccable timing. The Covid-19 precautions were obvious. We were in a booth with noone in the booths to either side. The normal tables in the middle of the main dining area were not used and those in the other dining room were well spaced. This was our first time going out to dinner since early March because of Covid concerns. We felt perfectly safe at Rare and have no concern at all about potential exposure. We appreciate their efforts to provide safety while keeping their service and food experience as perfect as ever. Thank you.
Service was VERY slow. Food as usual was outstanding. Won’t be back there for some time.
Excellent food and ambiance, sad to see the entrance all boarded up, along with the businesses surrounding Rare.
The food was great, the service wasn’t over the top which you would expect for a restaurant like this.
Outstanding meal, fantastic server (Case) and overall a wonderful experience.
The foood was amazing. The atmosphere was brilliant. The attention to my needs were impressive
Everything about our visit was great.
We look forward to going back soon.
Our waitstaff was great. Very attentive without being aggressive. Will eat here again.
Had birthday dinner here. The meal was pricey but well worth it. If they have it as a feature, order the domestic Snake River Waygu NY strip, it was phenomenal, even better than the Japanese Waygu. Their smokey old fashioned was better than expected. Only thing that was issue was the wait staff was kind of slow.
Always a pleasure. Owen and Genevieve were awesome. Everything was awesome, duck was ever so slightly overcooked but still good. Until next time.
We thought our dinner was very good. A little pricey, but not out of line for the quality.
Our only disappointment was with our waitress. She was very good at first, but after she brought the entree she disappeared. We sat in the dining room looking over the capitol and outdoor seating. We could see our waitress "gabbing and yacking" with one customer in particular. For 15 minutes. Now, I know that 15 minutes isn't the end of the world, but when you're waiting on her coming back to ask you what you want for dessert and she spends her time chatting with a customer, then walking away for a second and then walking back to him to spend another 5 minutes chatting, it seems like an hour.
The maître d' sensed we were getting a little frustrated and came over to our table and asked if there was anything he could do. I told him 'no', that dinner was good and that we were going to order dessert (it was our anniversary) but our waitress had spent the last 15 minutes gabbing with someone outside. In fact, she was still out there.
He apologized, and brought us our bill. He took off the two drinks that I had, which was very nice but not necessary. I told him not to do that and to put those drinks back on our bill, but he insisted. So for that, my hat is off to him.
Excellent steak and wine selection.
We ordered steaks, lobster mac, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. Sadly, the only thing that arrived hot were the sprouts. Steaks were overcooked and cold. Mac was gelatinous. While our server was excellent, she was really busy and didn't check on us for about 20 minutes. By that time, no one was willing to wait to fix things. Sad. We have been there 4-5 times in the past year, but for a $300 price tag, I think we will try somewhere else.
The restaurant has been very thoughtful in distancing customers during COVID-19; we felt very safe. We had an outstanding meal. All of the staff were friendly and very attentive. We will dine there every time we are in Madison.
I took my son and his wife for a special birthday dinner. Everything was outstanding! We each chose the filet for the main entree all were cooked perfectly. I had the lobster bisque which was exquisite and such a lovely presentation. We shared a couple of sides including lobster mac which was delicious. Even the cocktails- Long Island iced tea - were perfect. This was our third visit in 2 years. I live in Cincy or I would visit more often. You can’t go wrong here. Impeccable service wonderful food and lovely ambience! Thanks to our waiter Ryan! He was extremely knowledgeable and very funny too.
The food was wonderful. The crab cakes were some of the best I have ever had. We also really enjoyed the beet salad. The popovers were a pleasant surprise. We went steak and seafood. The Filet Mignon was crusty and delicious while tender and perfectly cooked. The lobster tail and scallops were also cooked perfectly. Nothing is more disappointing than overcooked seafood. These was so tender and sweet and flavorful. The whole meal was great. We had no complaints. We will definitely be back. Delicious.
Wife and I went here for our 15 years anniversary. The place is super nice and definitely a place you would go for a special occasion. The waitress couldn’t have been better. Very friendly. The food: we had the lobster and crab bisque. It was the best thing we had the whole night, it was delicious! We shared a steak and also got a couple ounces of the kusunoki. They both would have been really good had they been hot. For some reason the food all came out less than room temperature. I would have complained about it, but I wasn’t sure if they do that on purpose or not. Lol We did receive a free dessert of our choice for our anniversary which was nice. We had the chocolate cake and it was pretty good. Over all it was a very nice place, not quite worth the 200 dollars it cost. Would more than likely go back and just not order the the kusunoki, and also ask for the good to be good and hot when it arrives. I would recommend giving this place a try.
Although there were some moments that were great (Kate), the service from our server (Mitch) was horrible. Had to go find him after sitting with no greeting for 18 mins. Took another 30 mins just to get bread to the table. The place was clearly not at full capacity in terms of seating, so we should not have experienced the abysmal service that we did. When paying these prices, one should expect exceptional food AND service.
Mindblowingly delicious steaks. We had a 14 oz bone in filet mignon, a 6 oz filet mignon, and 2 oz of the A5 Wagyu, and every single one of them were stunning. The cocktails were to die for with lots of twists on popular original drinks. Great selection of Scotch and was surprised to find some nice Port on their dessert menu. We had a small issue with the seared scallops tasting off, but the manager came and fixed the problem right away and gave us another free starter dish. Everything about this dining experience was incredible. I'll definitely be back!
This was our first experience at Rare and it was totally mind blowing!!! From the ambiance, to our server who was AMAZING, to the food itself. Everything was great!!! THE best steak we have ever had in dining experiences! We will most definitely be back and will recommend to anyone looking for a great dining experience. Thank you!!!
I was admittedly nervous returning to Rare as it was my first indoor dining experience since the pandemic started. However, they had tables marked off where patrons couldn’t be sat to ensure social distancing, with the closest table being about 15 feet away. All staff had masks. Food and service were incredible, as always. Shout out to our server Dani who was excellent!
Food is good, but service was very slow. Which was surprising due to it not being very busy.
We went here for our 20th wedding anniversary to celebrate local since our Europe trip had been cancelled due to COVID. I should say that I have no problem spending the amount of money we did on our meal and drinks (more than $300) had the service, atmosphere and food been up to the expectations. We typically go to the Dells for our nice dinners but wanted to try Rare. It took more than 20 min just for our drinks, the meal was served in a somewhat timely manner but the server checked on us twice. The manager checked with every table besides us, not sure why. The steaks were flavorful but the sides (lobster Mac and cheese which was dry and creamed spinach that was still crunchy) Maybe I went in with high expectations than I should have. They knew it was out 20th and they did give us a free dessert but would prefer personalized service over a free dessert any day.
We enjoyed an amazing meal and dining experience for our 16 year wedding anniversary! We highly recommend Rare for date night and special occasions. We will definitely be back.
Phenomenal as always ! Always enjoy the great food and friendly service.
The food and atmosphere were fantastic although would have like to have sat in main dining area not the side area .
Great food and great service. Amazing
