Dining and libations on Capitol Square with an incredible view of the Capitol, Rare combines craft cocktails, in-house dry aged steaks and attentive service in an unabashedly old-school steak house setting. Madison's downtown steakhouse features specialty cuts dry aged in-house, like the Rib Cap and the Delmonico as well as offering more traditional cuts like our filet and our rib eye. Rare is also one of the only purveyors of A5 Wagyu in Madison.

Complimenting our steaks and entrees is a specialty cocktail list and an extensive wine list with everything from wines for a big celebration to a weekday dinner.

We loved the food and the ambiance. Our server, Christine, was beyond fantastic. We enjoyed the steaks. Cooked to perfection. The cream spinach, mushrooms and has browns were all delectable. No room for dessert

Tahari was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and fun. Food was excellent. Owen helped us pick just the right Pinot noir for my finicky palate. Bananas Foster is always a good show and delicious finale. Thanks for another great experience.

The food was delicious! The service was not so great, our server did not check on us after receiving the food until we were basically done. I wanted to order another alcoholic beverage, which was basically my dessert since it was received after I was done eating.

Food was excellent. The steaks were on point. The sides were delicious. The staff were amazing. It was a lovely night celebrating a friend's birthday.

2 huge tables in the main dining area made it too loud. Food was excellent. Service was good but we felt she was rushing us.

Amazing steaks, as you would expect at a steak place! The downsides were that there were not a lot of options for different cuts and sizes, and the price was a bit high. The wine by the glass list also left a lot to be desired. The ambience was also a bit disjointed with the dimly lit restaurant but bright television screens above the bar and really terrible music. The constant flames and smell of smoke of the tableside bananas foster got old really quick as well. Overall, we'll be going to a different location the next time we go out for steaks in Madison.

I didn’t tell anyone, but they knew it was my birthday and staff made me feel special throughout the meal. The food was delicious. It was a great way to celebrate.

Our server, Kristin, was welcoming and attentive. We asked for a booth away from the noise of the bar and were happily able to converse with no trouble. A delicious pre-theatre dinner!
