Came for an anniversary and had Jennaveave(sp?) as our waitress. She, along with her trainee, made our anniversary dinner feel very special! The service was fantastic and every plate went back clean! Will certainly be back again!
I was disappointed in the mushrooms and asparagus. All steaks were great, petite filet, NY strip and ribeye.
The food was AMAZING!! Good wine list. The server used small glasses for our big Cab , overpoured and didn’t decant it. She did a nice job with the bananas foster though! My friend had a coffee with cream and she brought out an espresso cup of creamer that only spilled when you poured it. Frustrating. The ambiance is great. Quiet enough for good conversation and enjoyment of the food. Overall a meh rating because for the price we paid ($600+ with tip), we’ve had better service and proper wine experiences. Side note, we observed other servers doing better, so maybe we will try again sometime in the future.
Well the steak was undeniably one of the best I’ve ever had, the baked potato, which I had to pay extra for what is raw, the Hors d’oeuvre was quite good, but Had to ask for more sauce because they did not serve enough to begin with, and a drinks We’re over priced even for an upscale restaurant.
Service and atmosphere are great. Food was nothing special. We all thought our steaks were pretty tough. I even got the snake rivers farms ribeye for 150$. I always order the snake river farms steaks for home and always amazing. This one was pretty darn tough. It was my wife and I and our 3 kids. With tip our bill was 900$. So I would say for the money it was a little disappointing.
Our second visit, this time we brought friends from out of state. This is our favorite steak place in Madison. By far. The food is great and comes with a good selection of appetizers, sides, and drinks that other steak places lack. However our favorite part is honestly the staff. Everyone is always so nice and accommodating.
Genevieve is the best server we have had in terms of a dining experience here in Madison. She went the extra mile to make sure we were well taken care of, had great energy, and even made list of local night life for us to try out after dinner. Would 100% recommend that if you eat here, to ask to sit at one of her tables. She is the main reason we will look forward to coming back in the future.
Service with Mary on point and Ashley at our table we’re on point. Fails came at bar as even tho slow, old fashions were not good and neither were made as requested. Steaks were fair not exceptional as $80+ price tags should be lacking rib-eye flavoring, tenderloin over cooked. The French onion soup was a pleasant surprise. Overall we will not be back due to underwhelming steak experience
Delicious steaks but that’s where it stops- everything else was just not worth it.
Server was pleasant and accommodating but showing up with $ 500 of steaks lobster while we were still eating the appetizers is inexcusable for this price point.
Our dinner was amazing. We went here for my birthday and enjoyed everything from our wine, steak, and dessert. This is our favorite steak restaurant in Madison!!
Went for my bday. Service was amazing, ambiance was so nice! My steak I ordered medium and it was completely rare which I can eat pretty rare but I couldn’t eat it. Didn’t get to say anything until we were ready to leave so didn’t want it thrown back on. Gave us a free drink which ok. Hash browns were just ok nothing special. For the over $200 ticket for 2 people food quality wasn’t worth in my opinion. Would go back for drinks n apps at the bar though, very cute place!
Well, I would have to give the overall rating as incomplete. The good: beautiful restaurant, great ambience, outstanding service, good drinks/wine list. The bad: they were literally almost completely out of steaks. The menu has 8-10 different cuts and types. When we ordered, we were told that 3-4 of them (the ones we wanted) were not available. We ordered our second choices. Minutes later, our server returned to tell us that neither of the two steaks we ordered were available either. All they had available was a 96 oz tomahawk or 2 varieties of wagyu. They did the right thing and gave us the wagyu at the price of the steaks we ordered. It was OK - would have preferred something else. I think the meal could have been excellent if they had had the inventory. Pretty weird for a steakhouse to not actually have any steaks. Nonetheless, we will go back. But will call ahead to make sure they have steaks!
Overall great service! They also bought us dessert for our Anniversary! Table side bananas foster!
Excellent all the way around. Everything was delicious
Service was above and beyond! Food was excellent from appetizers to desert. Would recommend Rare to anyone for a special occasion!
Wonderful Ambience and perfectly timed service
Great restaurant, everybody was very friendly and personable!! Food had great presentation and tasted wonderful! We'll go back for sure!
Genevieve is amazing and made our experience priceless. We were greeted in a kind and professional manner and and that carried through to the very end of our meal. The food was amazing and they were knowledgeable of our dietary needs. Best experience in Madison!
My husband and I went to Rare for our fourth wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful time and the food was fantastic. I do have to admit that we wish we were not placed next to a very loud table that was apparently a rotary club meeting or group; we were in an otherwise empty side room so that might be the main reason it stood out to us. Overall it was still a great evening.
Our server, Genevieve, was the best! Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The server (Genevieve) was awesome. The decor ggreat doe steakhouse. We were sat at a table not booth even though multiple booths were left empty all while we were there. Our table stuck out in middle of room snd was directly in line with cold draft every time the wine cellar was opened.
The food situation was not good and bar snd foodservice was very slow. I ordered one of the premier steaks and was told late by manager they were out. Our server was not made aware. The manager recommended the Capitol cut instead and it was very tough and heavily peppered.
My steak and two drinks were comped by manager but overall
Not great experience in what could have been.
Food is always great here. A little pricy for what you get but will never be disappointed.
Would highly recommend.
Best steakhouse I have been to.
My date and I arrived early and had a cocktail at the bar before going to our table. The bar is beautiful and stocked with just about anything you can imagine and the ambiance is perfect. The bartender was very nice and professional. We sat in a very comfortable and beautiful booth with a view looking into dining area. The restaurant is one of the most beautiful places I have seen. Our server was amazing. That's an understatement. I can't fathom how he was able to memorize the entire menu with the details of where and when the items were harvested. Especially when the menu changes daily based on availability of certain items. He was very knowledgeable and professional. The food was indescribable. It was by far the highest quality meal I have ever seen. Major compliments to the chef. Everything was perfect. There isn't a single thing I would change. I highly recommend this place for a date or anniversary. I really hope nothing changes and this place stays the way it is for years to come.
Decent but overpriced. Took a very long time to get the food even though we explained we were on a tight timeframe. A good half hour after we ordered and the place wasn't even that busy.
We had a wonderful dinner to celebrate my parents 60th wedding anniversary! Thank you to the Rare staff for going above and beyond. A night to remember.
Ask to be seated in Jaffar’s(sp) section. Very knowledgeable about every aspect of the food, cooking, beverages etc. Every steak was perfection. Thanks guys for the best meal ever.
Amazing food followed by amazing service. Highly recommend!
The food was excellent, the waitress was awesome. The whole mood was very nice.
Great food and even better service. Genevieve was an unbelievable host who made the night comfortable, fun and engaging. She took care of us and made a special night (anniversary) even better. The food was delicious, as was the wine. I would highly recommend Rare for your next dining destination. Ask for Genevieve, she was amazing.
It was my husbands 70 th birthday, the manager owen talked to us before dinner,,and wished him happy birthday, and also sent us tableside bananas foster,(complimentary) will definetly be back for special occassions!
the food was delicious and the service was impeccable
I don’t think it would be possible to have a better steak. We had the Petite Filet and the 14 oz bone in filet. Both were outstanding. We were celebrating our 34th Wedding anniversary so we wanted the night to go well. The staff , Kate our waitress and Owen the Manager made sure we were happy. We did move tables because of noise from a larger group, but all were accommodating to that . Wonderful evening and memory ! Would highly recommend!
Went for our anniversary dinner. Our waitress provided complimentary Prosecco for a toast. Every part of the dinner was well prepared and served from soup to steaks to bananas foster.
Rare Steakhouse was absolutely amazing, our server was fantastic, and our food was outstanding. Great place for a celebration or date night!
Excellent flavored and prepared NY strip steak. Among the best I've eaten. However, quite expensive. The ambience is reasonably quiet and nicely elegant.
Food was great. Service excellent. It’s pricey. We sat on the patio so had street noise. But it was a lovely dinner.
Rare is a rare find indeed. Excellent food and 1st rate service. Fine dinning at it best.
We have enjoyed Rare previously many times when we visited Madison. This week’s experience was a huge disappointment. Both soup and entrees were served cold. The portion of a scallop dinner was ridiculously small. It was as if the chef did not show up to work and a completely incompetent staff took their place. We have previously recommended Rare to many people in and visiting Madison. When everything that came from the kitchen was poorly executed, you have to wonder what happened to a fine dining experience. The manager was apologetic, and tried to make good on the bill, but an evening after a long business day that could have been a highlight was a huge disappointment.
The food was very good .our server Kate was exceptional
