Great food, great people!
Excellent character and right across from the capitol. Everything was done perfectly. The staff was very helpful in guiding and educating us on different cuts. It was a great experience!
Worst steak I have ever had. Plenty of other steak houses to choose from. With your unique aging process- Buttery/nutty should have been a better Ribeye huge ounce steak
Excellent food, prepared perfectly. Servers were friendly and attentive without hovering, and knowledgeable about menu/made appropriate recommendations. Ambiance was "supperclub"-like, low lighting with rich furnishings. Prices were at the higher end, but comparable to similar restaurants. We celebrated my daughter's birthday and she was given a complimentary dessert and chose a large piece of delicious chocolate cake. I would definitely dine here again when in town.
Great in every way!
Professional staff and elegant food. A date night well spent.
Never disappointed! Always impressed!
I'm a very particular person, especially when it comes to food and dining. This place was hands down the best restaurant experience I have ever had! The food, drinks, and service was amazing. They truly made my first anniversary dinner amazing! I will never forget that experience, thank you Rare Steakhouse!!
Outstanding service as usual! The team is so professional and knowledgeable. The ribeye cap is delicious, their best steak right now. Still hoping Rare will bring back their original wedge salad, it was the best in Madison. The replacement little gem wedge is not up to par. Love seeing James back at the bar!
I love this place! For the price you pay, you receive the value and then some. I am a person who does not like to spend money going out to eat, but I will spend it here. The steak is amazing and you rarely find a place that can make them as well as this place. My wife and I go once a year for her birthday! Also, the service is outstanding with knowledgeable staff. I can't wait to go back next year!
Great evening having our anniversary dinner everything was great. Good wine , apps and dinner.
I hadn't had a steak prepared that well in years! I'll be coming back for a visit.
You made us feel special. The whole experience was wonderful. Thank you
My husband and I chose to make a reservation at Rare for dinner before attending a Broadway musical on a Friday night at the Overture Center in Madison, WI. We were greeted promptly as we entered and let directly to a requested booth. The ambiance at Rare is so relaxing, with tables and semi private booths, none “on top of” each other. The warm, deep wood appointments throughout invite relaxation. Our waiter recommended a dry French Bordeaux as we requested a bottle of a dry Cabernet Sauvignon. It was lovely to sip throughout our dinner. We started with a dozen west coast fresh Bonita oysters on the half shell. They were served beautifully on ice with cocktail sauce, lemon and a light garlic mignonette. The taste was delightful; a bit of the sea came through, too. We decided to split a Caesar salad, and we were both very happy that it was delicately dressed and crispy delicious. Accompanying the salad was a fresh, hot popover for each of us with butter and strawberry butter on the side. Fun! Our entrees appeared next - a 7oz bone-in filet for my husband and a sliced 4oz portion of Wagyu strip beef for me, both perfectly cooked to our requested medium-rare temperatures. We also ordered a side of roasted Brussels sprouts (with cipollini onions and bacon) and the duck fat fries, served with a sweet chili aioli. All delicious!! We enjoyed our dinner tremendously! Too full for dessert, we finished with a glass of tawny port (the Kofke recommended by our helpful, but not too intrusive waiter)for me and an Irish coffee for the hubby. It was a great way to finish an exceptional dining experience before walking a couple of blocks up to the Overture Center.
We made our reservation for 5:30 as we did not want to feel rushed through our meal in order to attend the play. Just let them know your showtime when you make your reservation for dinner before an event. They will time it out well for you!
Service could be more Johnny on the spot. Took 25 minutes to get a cocktail after sitting down.
Waited for 1 & 1/2 hours for our food and when it did come my shimp were cold and also my hashbrowns. I had to send them back to get heated up.They gave us some free drinks while we were waiting and also a $50.00 gift cretificate. But by this time our evening was already ruined.
Delicious food, very attentive staff. Definitely will go back
Fantastic dinner. Everything from the food to the service was great. Highly recommend if you are looking for a nice night out on the town.
Excellent service, wonderful atmosphere for our thirtieth anniversary dinner. A bit pricey however that was expected for such a special occasion! We’ll be back!
Expensive, for the quality. Delicious but slightly overpriced.
Took my wife here for her birthday. The manager said our server was running a little late but took our drink order. Eventually our server came and took our appetizer order and then we didn’t see him again for an hour. He served other tables but kept ignoring or bypassing our table. Our drinks were empty and we already ate our appetizer. When he finally showed up, he made it seem that it was no big deal and we ordered extra drinks and our dinner, thinking we wouldn’t see him again. Well that came out 10 minutes later. The worst part is that it wasn’t busy since we were there on a Tuesday. Definitely had a deflating experience, the price does not reflect the service with the food. If we come back, we’ll just sit at the bar, we’ll have a better chance of getting timely service.
The service was very slow. We were not drinking wine and that seemed to give us less priority than other tables ordering wine. The main entree took an hour to show up, Two orders of filet mignon and two of salmon. The food was good but the service so bad it left a bad after taste.
I've never had a bad meal here. The service and food are outstanding.
Service was very slow right from the start and never got any better. Appetizers were outstanding, but when it came to the main course both my and my lady’s steaks were very undercooked and side dish was barely cooked and luke warm at best! Very disappointed especially at the price I paid...
They were late seating us. And we waited 2 hours for are food after we ordered! Very disappointed. Seconded time there. Disappointed the first time also
Our soups were cold, the cheese board we ordered never arrived, our drinks took too long. Not great for the first time dining there.
The bar area is super nice and I love the ambiance. But the wait staff that are squeezing by to serve tables in the bar area are constantly passing by. It was tight when I was there. The staff are nice. Service was slow at first. Took 20 minutes to get a drink and a roll once we were seated. Server took 10% off our bill. Overall we like Rare. Have been there before. Will go back.
Highlights were the cocktails, wedge salad, brussel sprouts and steak. Oysters were laughably small, soups were OK and Au Gratin potatoes was just potatoes in alfredo sauce. Service is very pleasant but not as professional as you'd expect for a high end dining experience. Decor is great.
Great steakhouse on the square. Old school decor traditional menu superb wine list. Definitely a do again and again
This place is amazing. The food is phenomenal and the service is top notch! The atmosphere is classic dark wood and tin ceiling. Combined with awesome servers that actually give a damn.
Beautiful restaurant, good food, service took longer than desired but waiter was very professional and knowledgeable.
Highlight was the Tomahawk Ribeye for two. It was incredible! Perfectly crusty sear on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. Lowlight was the service. Simply put, I expect impeccable service when I am paying that much for a meal. Our water glasses sat empty from halfway through the meal until well after our table was cleared. We could not get anyone's attention to fill them until the table was cleared and we were asked if there would be anything else or were we ready for the check. We saw a table across from us order a bottle of wine that was decanted and poured, but then no one came back to fill their glasses again. They were sitting on one side of a horseshoe table and could not reach the bottle sitting at the edge of the table across from them. Although we told our server from the start that we planned to order dessert, she never came back when we were done with our entrees to take our order. Finally, what happened to the courtesy of removing the crumbs from the table once the plates are cleared and customers are finishing drinks or ordering dessert? There is no excuse for any of these oversights when the restaurant is not full and there are many servers and server-helpers constantly walking by the tables. Unfortunately, while this doesn't detract from the great food, it does detract from the total dining experience. We aren't certain we can overlook the service to go back for the food. Nevertheless, we would recommend the food in a heartbeat!
Food was warm at best and a little over cooked . manager offered to replace the meal and we declined as we were on a schedule. he comped us a round of drinks and gave us a free dessert . he handled our issues very well and the service was very good. we would visit them again..
We had a truly lovely dinner at Rare Steakhouse this week, celebrating my husband's birthday. Thank you to Dani, for making the experience especially nice.
Excellent as always!
Server was great! Food was amazing, Tomahawk steak worth every $..
We have made it our anniversary place for the last 3 years. It has a romantic atmosphere and the service is outstanding.
Great over all experience
Great food. Service was amazing. Wonderful dining experience.
Thorough and thoughtful service. Steaks were perfect, we had dry aged ribeye and the filet. All sides were full of flavor. We will be back.
