Best meatballs of all time.
Besides the food being insanely outstanding, there is a guy named Lou who walks around and makes sure the food is good and chats with the diners. Lou is AWESOME. He is truly a great guy and made our dining experience even better. Our waitress, Gia, was wonderful too. I’m a picky diner and so is my wife. For the first time that I can remember, we couldn’t find a single thing to remotely complain about. Lastly, even the hostess, Tatiana was great too. When you go eat there, you just feel totally taken care of.
The food was so good, my 9 1/2 year old son didn’t even ask for his iPad or my iPhone (well, not until AFTER he was finished with his meal).
I never write reviews, but I loved this place so much, I wanted people to know. This place is perfect in all areas. You will not be sorry to book a reservation at this spot.
This was my second time dining there. There will be a third (and 4th and 5th and 6th, etc.). very soon.
Overall rating: off the charts. That good.
If you are looking for the best real Italian restaurant in Los Angeles, stop here! The service is wonderful and attentive. The food is outstanding (get the meatballs and the Bone-In Veal Parmesan ), portions are beyond generous. I cannot wait for our return engagement!
Able to accommodate our party which changed from a group of 8 to 13 last minute, server ordered everything for us and did a great job. Service was fantastic as usual and the food was amazing. Thanks Rao’s!
After using Rao's sauces for cooking at home, I had to try the restaurant. I was not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. The inside of the restaurant is comfy, with low-lit lighting. Restaurant noise and music being played was unobtrusive and conducive to conversation. Also, check out the celebrity photos on the wall, especially those in the back by photographer, Timothy White. I will definitely be back!
The service was okay. We had a party of 7. Food took a very long time to get. Initially we only got 4 menus. Had to ask after realizing they were not bringing more menus. Got bread basket, no butter, no oil, no balsamic= different. Took our drink order, brought everything except my glass of wine. My wine came 15 minutes later. My husband ordered Caesar salad as a starter. Server brought salad with serving utensils, and did not give him a plate! Meat dishes, exceptional, pasta mediocre. Very surprised.
Rao's was Outstanding ! Our waiter....Jonathan....was great !! His recommendations from the menu were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Rao's of Hollywood !!
Great place for a special Family gathering food is outstanding service personalized ; just a fun evening
Rao's is always a great time! The service is excellent and the food is delicious. Always fantastic to come here
I was so excited that there's a Rao's in Hollywood. Quite a while ago, I was fortunate enough to be invited to the original Rao's in Harlem, New York City. A friend's Dad had a table there. It was an incredible experience. It's party the exclusivity, but the food!!!!!! Fantastic. Old fashioned southern Italian cooking. So, the big question, how do the two compare? Well, obviously, the exclusivity part doesn't. I got the reservation on Open Table and I don't think you can do that at the original. I'll check. But who cares about that, what's the food story? Identical! I had the Veal Parmigiana. Incredible. Way too much for me, but the lunch leftovers the next day...out of this world, The pasta is perfection. We shared the seafood salad. Amazing. The meatball appetizer...fill in your favorite adjective for best ever. My wife had a chicken dish with peppers, sausage, onions, you know the drill. And the waiter was excellent. Fun, funny, great recommendations, the whole shebang. Can't wait to go again.
Everything was perfect: the room, the waitress, the food and John
We loved every, single bite. Rao's is a fabulous restaurant!!!!
Old school ambiance meets fabulous food and good service. Had a great meal and loved the atmosphere.
We had the roasted peppers and the meatballs as appetizers....fantastic!
Had lobster fra diavolo, veal Marsala, lemon chicken and a spaghetti aglio olio. My friend didn’t put his fork down until he totally finished the spaghetti! I had the lobster fra diavolo...among the best I ever had....the serving was big....can be shared, or better yet to take some home!
Veal M was great.....I did not try the lemon chicken.
No one had room for dessert....I ordered the tiramisu regardless....my friends took most of it!
Bring your appetite....you won’t leave hungry....just happy.

Always the best!
We totally enjoyed food and the friendly and excellent service. They made it s feel very special
First time here, Celebrated my Birthday with my family. It was such a wonderful experience! Greated by non other, than Johnny Roast Beef from GoodFella’s was such a great way to start the night. Wonderful Man & very friendly. Now for the meals we ordered, they were very delicious! So full of flavor. The Lemon Chicken was soooo good & the Veal Bolognese too! Ended the night with the most flavorful Cheesecake I have ever tried! Can’t wait to go back again. The atmosphere was like being in a old school East Coast restaurant. So friendly and welcoming.
It was nice having Johnny Williams come by and give us the history of Rao’s restaurant starting in New York.
It was much yummier than I even expected. We got the meatball appetizer, it was pretty good. For dinner we shared a pasta and the lemon chicken. The portions are large and easy to share. We brought home lots of food. We got a half order carbonara and amatricana and they were both delicious. They will happily split pasta orders for you. The carbonara is other worldly, it’s that good. We also got the cheesecake and it’s the best I’ve ever had including the multiple times I’ve had it while visiting NYC.
There was a large group from NYC dining while we were there as it’s virtually impossible to get in at the NYC location. The front dining room of the Hollywood location is a model of the NYC location, that’s pretty cool too. Mangia!
Food, service, EVERYTHING is amazing! Thank you Rao's for a great night
The restaurant ambiance is very pleasing old-style Italian red leather, but nicely updated. Nice outdoor patio with enough of a ceiling that I think you can be outside in the rain without getting wet. The food was delicious I did however wish they would have had some old fashion staples like lasagne. My husband has allergies and they were very accommodating by making adjustments to a dish he wanted. A little pricey and valet is $10. There is some street parking available.
Our experience with Rao’s was amazing!!! We had a group of 6 for a birthday party and our waitress more than accommodated our needs. She was very attentive and happily split the check. I wish I could remember her name but I can’t. Our waitress and another staff member suggested doing the family style. You will not be disappointed if you do the family style. The pork chops were the best I’ve ever had. When I thought the food couldn’t get any better they brought out the cheesecake. I kid you not, it was hands down the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. I will definitely be making the drive to LA to eat here again.
We love Rao’s and always feel welcomed by Johnny and the rest of the staff. The food is amazing!
Great food and atmosphere
The staff was friendley and inviting
Great food and great time with family from NY who know what real italian should taste like!
Had another amazing experience at Rao's this week ! The staff was incredibly friendly and sweet, loved our server (I think his name was Justin) and the food was incredible. Had family from Italy in town and they said the food was just as good if not better than at home. Also loved they saw a few celebrities while dining. It was a great experience for them! :)
Well I’m still drunk off the extra Sambucca but this place is a staple an amazing. You go here every time and it feels like home. Phenomenal pasta great cuts of meat and a good ambiance. Take your family here to celebrate.
Had a great time and loved the food.
Food was amazing! Fun atmosphere! A little bit loud, but what can you expect with a bunch of Italians! The mozzarella appetizer was delicious! The meatballs were better than my Grandma’s, sorry Grandma! Would highly recommend this place to anyone!
AMAZING!!! We were in our honeymoon and the manager came over to talk to us for a bit since he is also from Michigan. We had the best meal ending with limoncello and cheesecake. Honestly I have nothing bad to say. Service was great, food was amazing and the personal experience we had was top notch!
We like Rao's mostly for the ambiance. The food is both good and fun, but the place is exceptional in that every waiter, bartender, busboy and the roving "managers" seem to exist to make the customers enjoy themselves.
There is no better place to escape all the sadness in the present world that Rao's.
Went for Dine LA b/c seemed so overpriced. That said, now i realize part of the high prices is the huge portions–idea is to order "family style" and share. I know my Italian food and Raos really delivered on the quality more than I expected. Service was at a higher level than typical. Our waitress was on point and attentive. The manager was also attentive which is not typical and which made a difference.
It's not cheap, but it's not as outrageous as it might have been. Oh, and wine pairings were surprisingly excellent. Would definitely go back.
The greeting was very welcoming and inviting. Excellent cocktails. Appetizers were ample and exceeded expectation. The food suggestions were spot on and fantastically delicious. The explanation through the wine choices was very comforting and warm to an excellent Montepulciano. An excellent dining experience all the way to the delicious cheesecake and cannoli.
My daughter's friend highly recommended you. She, my mother, and I were happy to try you; and when we arrived to the old style Italian restaurant ambience we were looking forward to a great meal, my mother and I being from New Jersey. However, the meal was fine, nothing special, which would have been okay had it not been accompanied by an overly expensive bill far from being worth it. I've eaten all over the world, visited many expensive restaurants. Simple key to satisfaction: does the dining inspire the price. If yes, so then it's wonderful. If not, won't visit that establishment again.
There are a handful of restaurants that are as legendary as Rao's.
Exceptional service! Exceptional evening! Jason and Mark provided personal, top-notch service. I look forward to returning soon!
Always a great meal - the meatballs are the best in LA!
Went with friends for Dine LA but decided instead to try their Sunday dinner special - house salad, rigatoni in marinara and a bowl long -simmered meats in sauce - roasted pork, braciole, sweet and spicy sausage and their famous meatballs. It was so much food we had enough for another dinner. With a cocktail and shared dessert (go for the cheesecake) it was a very filling and delicious meal. Service was attentive, friendly and helpful. All in - a great evening if you like red sauce Italian.
3 of us seated on renovated patio. Nice decor, but the dark wood partitions made the space feel a little claustrophobic to me as opppsed to the previous open concept. Server very attentive. Staff very friendly. Water glassed always filled without asking. Had the salmon which was delicious, but the bed of spinach and white beans it came on was heavily salted. The Penne alla Vodka was a hit though the Penne Marinara on the Dine LA 2018 menu was beyond bland and tasteless. Skip it. The wine pairings were good with the Dine LA menu. The cheesecake is creamy and terrific. Was a birthday occasion and noted it on OpenTable reservation, but forgot to remind server so no candle in cheesecake. Will have to remember to speak up next time.
If you want “old school” Rao’s is it. No LA pretension. Great spot for any occasion.
