John Ls’ Wine Cellar is not only well stocked with vintages to complement any meal in the Ranch House Restaurant and Saloon, it’s also an intimate and elegant private dining room with a bit of history built right in. In the room, the beautiful cherry wine racks and beams were crafted from 150-year-old cherry trees harvested on the owner’s family land in Adirondack Park in New York. Known hereabouts as John Ls’ Wine Cellar, it’s named in memory of two family members. To get to the wine cellar dining room, you have to pass through the Barrel, a hand-crafted wine uncorking room (for up to 16 people), where you can socialize before your dinner in the Cellar.

The food was delicious and the drinks were great. We went to celebrate a birthday. Upon arrival the hostess asked who’s birthday we were celebrating. I did not expect anything from the restaurant to help celebrate, but the waitress said the chef was sending something special. Nothing ever came. From the time our waitress took our drink order she rarely came by to check on us and nothing “special” from the chef ever came. It was a very disappointing experience.

Great ambiance in old structure, makes you feel like you're back in the pioneer homesteading days. Lots of old photos and bric-a-brac. Great views if you sit next to windows. Server attentive. Menu choices somewhat limited, especially if you are not an enthusiastic red meat lover. Impressive wine list. Pricey. Be prepared to drop $200 per couple.

Shaun is ALWAYS amazing! She is so lovely, kind and just genuine. What a gem! I was in fairly early for dinner with my two boys, and your entire staff were very cool with my son who wanted to "thumb-wrestle" them. We love DTR and will be back!

Great experience! My wife had the scallops and I had their sea bass. Starting with their fresh made bread each item was a little unique and creative. Wonderful views, service and food. A perfect evening!

Food was stellar and atmosphere was a wonderful experience. Good for special occasions. My well traveled daughter claimed the scallops the very best she‘d tasted, and my ribeye cap was unlike any beef I’ve ever had before. Tender, flavorful, perfection. Table service was excellent and attentive. Would have given a 5, except we went to the bar initially to have a drink in front of the fireplace before seating. Two people were behind the bar, one ignored us, the other gave us water and drink menus. Then we waited. A good 10-15 minutes for drinks. I would expect in this level of dining experience, a drink in hand would be quick particularly for first few moments in the door. No one else was in the bar except us. The bartender appeared to be busy in the restaurant. Where was the manager? I‘d go back again for sure, but expected a better experience overall.

Our dinner was wonderful and served at a pace we appreciated. It was my husbands 70 birthday - can't think of a better place to relax and enjoy - it was snowing lightly outside, beautiful. My daughter and her husband have eaten at the Ranch House 2 times prior. We cross country skied that day also. It will be our go to place for special occasions !!! Thank you - David was our waiter, very helpful.

Our experience was far greater than ever expected. The four course meal was a culinary experience that rates at the top 5 meals ever, world wide. The perfectly prepared elk sirloin medallions mixed with caramelized onions, baby carrots, purée potatoes and raspberry sauce was simple a foodies dream. Thank you Devils Thumb Ranch for making our Valentine’s Day dinner extra special.

Want to hear with the best friends for my husband’s 40th birthday and all you were taking great care of an allowed to enjoy a very slow and delicious evening. Warm, cozy and reminded us of being up at Jennie Lake Lodge and grand Teton. Highly recommend for a special night out.

Yes tentatively. I am a return guest and was so so so disappointed with food. Normally best meat I have all year and somehow it was one of the worst for this year for me. David (I believe?) is top notch server. Manager came and spoke to us about food, was kind but not confident in her place it felt like. I love DTR specifically for the food. So this was a major change of pace than I’ve ever had here. Super disappointing.

This is definitely one of the coziest spots I can think of. It's very expensive, to the point that it may not be "worth it", but it's totally worth it for the experience, ambiance, and service. The food is also excellent, don't get me wrong. It's just expensive.

Overall this place is a very good restaurant. The food is always excellent and a must-try when you're at Devil's Thumb Ranch. For what seemed like a not-so-busy evening, service was a little on the inconsistent side. It took a while to get our order placed but once we did, there were constant check ups. Then our server stopped coming by so often. It took us 15 minutes for someone to take our payment for the bill.

Chef said no filet Mignon, the $14 per ounce coulotte steaks were tough and terrible. The vege with elk was like warm at best. We go to the Ranchhouse for ambiance but it would be nice to have good food

We were there at 5. Two couples with 1-3 year olds right next to us made it hard, but they eventually calmed down. This is a fine dining restaraunt and the resort needs another option for kids. We made efforts to secure child care for our one year old so we could have a romantic evening at a fine dining restaraunt, and having small children screaming right next to you definitely makes that hard. Great food and service as always but the resort needs to figure it out.

Everything about this restaurant visit was great. The chef is creative and the food is very flavorful. The filet and elk are to die for. The waiter was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommend dinning at The Ranch House!

My wife is pregnant and ordered her meat well done. We had to send it back 3 times and it never got cooked correctly. After the third attempt, she said screw it, and tried to eat as much as she could; maybe 1/3. I understand that this sort of thing happens, but when the staff tries to explain to me that 'it can be difficult to get the meat cooked just right, especially when you want it well done" I check out. This is a 5 star restaurant that charges $75 for a 5 ounce steak and you're telling me that your chefs can't figure out how to cook to a desired temperature?? Most fast food places have more capable chefs, I guess. We were there for almost 2 hours and I was done eating before her food came out the second time. Awful experience.

We have been here before and always seem to have a problem. This time both main courses the meat case out cold and underprepared I had the pork chop which was delicious but it was practically raw the first time it came out. My wife had the lamb loin and it came out literally cold to the touch and way under cooked. Not sure what the issue is but once they took both plates back to the kitchen and actually cooked the meals they were delicious

We celebrated my husband's birthday. I had the trout which was the best I had ever had. It was a creative preparation. My husband had the elk and it was also perfect. The servers were more than gracious.

We had our anniversary dinner to remember getting married at this location just a year ago. The service was fantastic, the food was delicious, and the room was cozy and quiet (even with every table filled). Complimentary prosecco and dessert made our first anniversary that much more special. Thanks DTR, team!

We booked a 5pm dinner in order to fulfill a 7:30 obligation. Unfortunately the restaurant was overbooked; a wedding was being hosted. Despite our servers’ diligence their task was impossible. We waited too long for our drinks, too long for our food. We had to be re-plated as our entrees were served over cooked and cold. And we didn’t get our bill until 7:45. We will not be back.

Absolutely love this place... My boyfriend and I go here at least once a year as a celebration for our birthdays/anniversary! It is always our favorite part of our trip to Winter Park. Love the staff, food, and ambiance.
