We had a lovely evening and anniversary dinner. We experienced a relaxed pace that allowed us to catch up with our dining companions and enjoy the wonderful food and wine.

We didn't love it. We ordered Escargot, they were overcooked, rubbery, and dry and there was zero garlicky butter to drench bread in - and isn't that half the point? The French Onion Soup's broth was actually too strong, it tasted like it was condensed but never watered down or brought to the right concentration. The Parker House Rolls were excellent and the Parisian Gnocchi was fine. Cocktails were great. We were also right by the kitchen and they were blasting music; I get it, it makes the day go by, but not when it bleeds into the dining room and ruins the dinner vibe.

Lovely ambience and friendly service. Great menu but execution was hit or miss, with everything being overly salty and buttery. I love French food and have spent a great deal of time in France, and not at all afraid of salt and fat, but the kitchen overdid it by far. I would still go back since it is local and has promise but will ask for them to go moderate on the salt.

There are a lot of wonderful restaurants in Palo Alto, but Zola stands above them all. Excellent food - we go there often and each time there are new dishes/variations that we love and enjoy. Desserts are exquisite. Must enjoy!

Bar Zola is a lively place with wonderful French food, inspired cocktails, and friendly, engaging wait staff. We started with the bone marrow; not my favorite but my wife loved it. The little gem green salads were enormous, probably dinner size, and perfectly dressed (we ordered without the sieved egg). My wife had the flat iron steak, perfectly done, with pommes frites that I snatched a few. I had the 38 north duck breast, because I knew how difficult it was to cook them. They were generous and also done perfectly. We were full after dinner, and we weren't expecting to order dessert. But because Zola was aware this was a special occasion, brought out a creme brulee for us on the house. Service was excellent and attentive, and our server had a great sense of humor. Because Bar Zola is a popular French bistro, there are likely other French speaking diners nearby. Some diners allowed us to try our intermediate knowledge of the language in conversations. The meal was pricey, but we enjoyed the experience and thought it well worth it. We will definitely return to Bar Zola.

This was our first visit to Zola / Bar Zola and it won't be our last. We shared two starters (a seasonal garden salad and the French Onion Soup -- which the kitchen thoughtfully split into two smaller portions for us), and we ordered the boullabaisse and the hangar steak/frites. Both were excellent: the boullabaisse was well-seasoned and the seafood was properly cooked, not rubbery at all (a common problem with cioppino, boullabaisse, and other mixed seafood dishes), while the hangar steak was cooked perfectly to a medium rare, accompanied by a nice chimichurri and was considerably more tender than expected. We finished the meal sharing a chocolate mousse (also excellent!). A well-executed, tasty meal accompanied by excellent service in a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Had the best night at Zola! Outside table with the overhead heater on. The perfect spot for our graduation celebration. Staff was so kind, helpful and attentive. Food was simply amazing. Flavors, textures, presentation. Hard to emphasize just one, but the rhubarb pie was heaven! Inside room is tastefully decorated with great ambiance and beautiful lighting.
