Amazing meal can’t wait to come back to try other menu items.
Second visit to the suburban New Orleans outpost of Oaxacan food. Excellent food, with subtle treatments of plastic dishes, and a bright, convivial ambience.
Food is always interesting a delicious! Service is on spot - friendly and prompt. One of my favorites and regular go-tos.
Friend’s 60th birthday
I love this place. I was there a year ago and the food was sooooo good. I absolutely loved it. I ate there last weekend and I was disappointed. The food seemed much more mediocre. My food was room temperature and bland. It did not seem special at all. The drinks were good and the corn riblets are to die for. In general the quality of the food was lackluster this time. I was married in Oaxaca and Zocalo had become our anniversary spot because the food was so good. I will pick a different restaurant next year.
Love this restaurant and think they're on to something great. They have a very interesting menu - food & drinks - executed very well. A few hiccups here and there during service, but overall this is a place we enjoy. We'll be back for sure.
This is the second time coming to this restaurant. We love the location and the vibe. The bar has a great cocktail menu and this last time, I tried the Margo-Rita, named for the bartender Margo as she said it was her special recipe.....and it didn’t disappoint. The food is very very good. This second visit also gave us a totally new menu as well. The only thing that they need to work on is the service. The servers were very nice and attentive, but it took a really long time for the kitchen to have our food out. But, we will still be back! The Mexican Pizza, fried corn ribs, chicken tortilla soup, and the diablo shrimp were all spot on!
Great taste! Lots of options to pick!
This was not our first visit but it was the first time ordering the frozen margaritas. They were fantastic!! Perfect consistency and delicious! The food was great, hot, very fresh and well seasoned. My only complaint is that the steak on my Mexican pizza was a bit too grisly for my liking but some people prefer that. I’ll just order chicken next time because that thing was awesome! The staff is friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Zocalo is a casual setting with awesome food, drinks and service! Can’t wait to return♥️
I attempted to handle this situation privately through email with management; however, no one ever responded to my concerns. My husband and I sat at the bar one evening a couple of weeks ago, and we had several concerns about the cleanliness of the bar area and how the food/drinks were being handled. The bartender was slicing cucumbers on the mandolin on the cutting board at the end of the bar and putting them in glasses for cocktails. During this time, she was getting the bill for patrons, swiping credit cards, and also on her cell phone, all without washing her hands once. One customer came in for a pickup order and when she went to retrieve it from the back, she even left her cell phone on the cutting board touching the cucumbers. I feel like cleanliness should be a priority, and it didn't seem to be here. I was also concerned that management didn't respond to my email that was informing them of the situation.
Love the interior with all of the earthy elements; gives a great ambiance. Service was awesome - owner and bartender came to our tables at different times to discuss drinks/food. I really appreciate the extensive tequila and mezcal menu. The chips are made in-house, so we had to order the mango guacamole – SO GOOD – definitely order the mango guacamole when you’re here. The other outstanding food item was the shrimp enchilada. This is an authentic enchilada with super delicious sauce and marinated shrimp. Will definitely be back to enjoy their authentic, fresh, delicious food and drinks.
Food was fabulous but service was slow. Drinks were just okay. It was pretty loud too. Not sure we’d go back.
No avocado. No tuna. Changed menu but not written. No more beef tacos and only sausage. So disappointed.
The food we did order was delish!!!!!
I ordered 3 different items on the menu that they didn’t tell me were not available until after I ordered.
How does a Latin restaurant not have avocados for the avocado salad or several dishes that list avocado as and ingredient or ground meet for the tacos?
What we did order was average quality at best.
Wow. Just bad!
Everything was great. It's exactly what you expect if you're seeking something elegant but not over the top.
Food was delicious. mango salsa very good. Service a liitle slow but overall was great
Food was unique and very tasty. Server was friendly but not very attentive for such a quiet lunch hour.
The food was good enough, but there are a lot of better options in New Orleans at this price point. Service was poor for the price as well. Waitress had to come back to the table to ask what our order was, then brought out the wrong dish to 2 of 4 people. She was rude about bringing the wrong thing, claiming it was what we ordered, and then still got the sides wrong on one of the 2 plates sent back. We effectively ordered 3 times and never got the completely right thing delivered...I don't recommend Zocalo.
The appetizers were good but the entree’s were not seasoned well. Everyone agreed it’s good for happy hour or appetizers but the entrees weren’t great. Service was ok, kinda of got skipped & forgotten a few times but would go back for happy hour.
Food was good but not enough of it. A glass of Wine was pricey for 4 ounces. But overall it was good.
This was my second visit to Zocalo and sadly my last. Both times the service was extremely slow. I excused them the first time because the restaurant was new and they were very busy. On this visit there were very few people in the place and we still didn't get good service. I wouldn't say the food is bad, but most of it was lacking flavor. The one exception to my previous statement is the Shrimp Enchiladas. They had too many different flavors that in my opinion were not harmonious. The Tres Leches cake had a gritty texture and the ice cream on it had ice crystals like it was freezer burned. I had really high hopes for this restaurant because it's in a great location.
I went not liking Mexican food but my wife does. I left highly recommending Zócalo.
We spoke to the mother (from Columbia) of one of the owners who, obviously proud of her son, says he and his partner spent a lot of time in Mexico learning how to blend the different food cultures of that country into the menu of Zócalo. And it works.
Prices are a bit high ($3 for coffee and $9 for a flan) but the overall bill for 2 people, 1 beer and 1 soft drink, 2 appetisers and 2 main courses was $84. At $42 per person for a lot of food and take home after, I think that's about normal in today's eating out economy.
We would definitely go back.
As much as I would like to give this restaurant a good review, I cannot. I live so close to this restaurant I can walk to it. The service was terrible, inattentive and just poor. The courses came out of the kitchen out of order and one at a time. I don’t see us returning. ☹️
Fantastic!! The Elote Ribs- wow!! And we were very close to closing and tried leaving bec so close (we had a reservation and did not know, right after JazzFest) And they insisted we sit down. Really wonderful and we can’t wait to go back
We eat at zocalo fairly often and the food is always incredible. The quality of everything that hits your table is top notch. The drinks are inventive but still accessible and delicious. I get something different each time and I’m never disappointed. Even the chips and salsa are to die for. If I had to pick a downside to zocalo it would have to be the service. The servers don’t really seem to understand table service rules, such as checking back after your food or drinks hit the table, staging when to take orders, or refilling drinks. The waitstaff always seems to be completely lost in the process.
Very attentive staff. Food was excellent with very nice ambiance
Everything was delicious! Try the corn ribs!
Food was delicious and our waiter was superb!
The food is fantastic. Few desserts but they are so good we had all three. Spectacular drink menu, especially tequila and mezcal selection. The service could use improvement. Seems short staffed and we had to call waiter several times to get plates taken away and drinks brought to our table. Still love it and will go back.
The food and customer service were excellent!! Very clean and inviting! We loved the happy hour drink price first before we sat at our table!
Everything was pretty good. Definitely recommend but not mind blowing
Food and service from Jose was phenomenal. The table we were put at was tight between 2 larger tables. Could hear what everyone else was talking about. Very loud. Had several after dinner drinks. Bartender friendly and helpful. Was able to get the Duke basketball game on TV. All in all was a great evening except for the tight seating.
We enjoyed the food and the restaurant. Dishes were of good proportions and the street corn appetizer and guacamole were both tasty. Server wasn't overly polite, generally dismissive and inattentive until he realized we wanted more than appetizers. Not a deal breaker but it certainly didn't go unnoticed. I would still recommend the restaurant to friends based on the positives.
Food, service and ambiance was simply excellent. I have already made a suggestion to friends and would be dining there again soon.
Food and cocktails were tasty, service was good, dining room is attractive. My only complaint is the ridiculously small portions of rice and beans that accompanied the tacos. For $4, you get a tablespoon of rice and a tablespoon of beans.
Convenient parking, tasty food, friendly staff, not expensive
Food and experience were very good, but was disturbed that we didn't earn points for this visit.
The food was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back. We’ve been dining with Chef Edgar since the early days of Baru... he never disappoints ! Our server Christian was also outstanding. Highly recommend. Everything was so fresh. Thank you !
Our dinner club (6 adults) enjoyed our evening at Zócalo. We had drinks at the bar-wish it was bigger and that they had a happy hour. We ordered lots of different things and the only thing we wouldn’t get again was the pizza. Definitely will return.
