Zio Casual Italian is the perfect neighborhood restaurant featuring homemade pasta, legendary “hot pies” (pizza), salads made with house grown greens and seasonal specials. Chef/Owner Jim Consol and his staff have built a reputation of friendly, efficient service with consistently high-quality Italian dishes. In fact, Zio was voted as the most underrated restaurant in Charlotte by the readers of Charlotte Agenda. Upon entering the restaurant first thing you notice is the Hydroponic Growing System in the front of the main dining room, but be sure to tour the outside garden in the back of the restaurant where seasonal veggies and herbs are grown for use in the kitchen. Tucked behind the patio is the beautiful courtyard where you can enjoy full-service dining, Live Jazz on Wednesdays Nights or private events for up to 30 people. Full-service bar with an excellent selection of wine and beer, nightly dinner specials and a kids menu guarantees there is something for everyone.

They have a very limited menu! Not many options to choose from. They claim to have homemade pastas but the only one they make in house is angel hair stated by one of their staff members. This place is over hyped, not worth going..

We have eaten here for years as our go to neighborhood restaurant. Personal service and the kitchen is terrific about letting us sub a veggie. Sure missed eating indoors during Covid and our return to great, creative specials was not disappointing.

Reasonable prices although chicken seemed like it was the frozen chicken breasts that come with the grill marks on it already and the service was awful. It pains me to write this because I used to love this place, it was like a secret basement of no frills, homemade pasta and sauce with a family atmosphere. The hostess sat us right next to another table, even though the restaurant was empty at the time, which was really unnecessary. Our server was hardly around, abrupt and appeared completely distracted. We watched our food sit at the counter as our server ignored our attempts to get her attention, while another server hoovered over our plates at the window, to the point where we had to ask him to bring them to us since we couldn't find our server. Plus, hovering over plates at the window without a mask should be a thing of the past in general. Another server ended up bringing all of our food out at the same time, appetizers, salads and entrees. We would have loved another round of drinks, but our server never came. The prices are good for the pizzas but the quality of the rest of the food is no where what is used to be and neither is the service so unfortunately, we won't be coming back again.

This is the perfect place for any occasion. Love the homage angel hair and the chicken parm. Service is always great!
