Zinqué - Newport
Bayfront location and ambience are great, and service was good/pleasant. Food was average with almost funny small portions. Grilled shrimp entree for example ($19) was a small plate with 9 lonely little sautéed shrimp. Not even a sprig of parsley to say nothing of some modest accompaniment. We’re neighbors, and may come back again for cocktails, but not for dinner.
Great vibes. AMAZING service. I’ve never had anything on their menu that’s not just so delicious.
We arrived, they didn't have our reservation - I had the Open Table reservation on my phone, they still would not give us a standard table outside. They offered a high-top inside (only reason we went was to be on the patio).
Entree's OK - wife got shrimp entree which was just 10 shrimp on a plate - nothing else. Looked like an appetizer but we confirmed it was an entree. For the price, they may want to consider a couple pieces of broccoli or something to add to the presentation.
The atmosphere amazing. Service was the great and always tentative. Food was amazing
Food was very mediocre. Service was decent, atmosphere was great. Go here for cocktails only, or maybe lunch. Food seems to be generally under seasoned and over cooked. I ordered the prawns, and all I got was a plate of little over cooked shrimp. NOT worth the money.
Service was absolutely horrible. We waited an hour for our food to arrive and the waiter never checked in on us. Food was ultimately pretty underwhelming for the price and location.
Amazing food and service!
We had a large party with lots of kids. We sat outside and had a fabulous time.
Saw this place while walking around Lido and thought just by the looks of it that i'd like to eat there. Looked at the online menu and some pictures and it looked great from there. My boyfriend and I went last night and were both so disappointed. First, I had set a reservation for 2 way earlier in the day. When we arrived, we were surprised to find that the table DIRECTLY NEXT TO the host table and in line with the entrance was ours. It was so disruptive as you are in line with all the people coming and going. So if a party is waiting to be seated, they are standing next to or against your table while you're trying to enjoy the evening and just have your own conversation. People were literally leaning against our table and had their butt/back on it. I was immediately turned off and asked the host if there were any other tables to which she apologized profusely for seating us there. If you're apologizing because of my simple question, you must know in advance that it's a horrible place to be seated so why seat anyone there at all? Anyways, service was okay. She was nice and did her job. Food was a 1/10. He got the grilled salmon and i got the steak. I asked for my steak medium rare and it came out well done. No pink, didn't cut well, and was very chewy. The fries were good. The chimichurri was ehh. My boyfriend's salmon was okay but the rest of the dish left a bad taste. We were hoping to sit there for a few hours and drink wine and just enjoy the view but we couldn't wait to get the check and leave. Getting the check took a while, as our server didn't check in too often. As my boyfriend stated "walking up was nice, the company I was with was nice, walking away was nice" and that basically sums it up.
We came for a cocktail did not realize only wine and beer. We stayed for a salad and hummus appetizer it was delicious.
Always wait to get the food from the kitchen the food not as hot
Happened many times
But they can not get the food hot on the table
The ambiance was fabulous! The service was great! The food was horrible, over cooked, dry, skimpy...the list goes on and on! It was expensive for the quality of food. We love to dine out and try new places....this was by far one of the worst meals ever. Again the table and surroundings were wonderful! Nice servers too.
this place is on the waterfront and you feel comfortable with all age groups around. no crying children and wonderful ambiance.
Great restaurant & great service. I went to celebrate my birthday with friends and we were able to take our time & enjoy the evening without being rushed which I really appreciated. Our server was very nice and accommodating. The only feedback that I have is the music played on Thursday nights does not really go with the vibe of the restaurant and the crowd that was present- maybe start that (loud house music) later in the evening? We had a 6:30pm reservation and the music was fine at first, but it got progressively louder so by the end of the dinner it was hard to have a conversation. We all noted that while we will definitely return to this restaurant, it will not be on Thursday evenings.
The service was extremely slow and sub par. The steak ordered medium came very well done and when we asked for another plate it took 20 minutes to arrive. The new medium steak was very chewey and frankly not edible. The waiter was very nonchalant and unconcerned. We ordered several small items that never arrived. Overall the food was less than mediocre in quality and the service was poor. I would not return.
Everything was amazing
Came for a date night. Wasn’t packed at all which was surprising for a Friday night. Good food and service. Would recommend
The service at this restaurant was awful. We were there on a Tuesday night, so not a terribly busy night, and had to constantly hunt down our waiter(s) -- yes, there were 2-- who would disappear. Every time we made a selection we were told they were "out"...which is odd for an early dinner on a week night. This included appetizers, main meal and dessert. The location is beautiful and there is lots of competition next door, so not sure why Zinque is not paying attention.
The service was poor from start to finish. I don't like to give bad reviews; but we were basically ignored for the first 15 minutes (despite having reservations so they knew we were coming). Then, it was hard to get attention for the remainder of the time as well. No apologies, just "your waiter is busy." It felt like we were an inconvenience to them. The food was good, but it was a shame to not be able to enjoy it fully. I would not return.
I thought a lot about writing this review. We made reservations through open table but when we got to the restaurant we were shown to the worse table in the house. When we asked why we could not sit at any of the other open tables, we were told by the hostess that those were saved for people with reservations. When I said that we also have reservations and we are here and the other people are not, she said they are coming and the table they showed us is all they have for us, or we could wait 45 minutes for another table to open up. At no point was there a smile or any effort by the hostess to accommodate us. She was actually quite rude . I finally had to ask for a manager who started out with the same horrible attitude, and then changed when they saw that there are open tables and their other 'reservations' were not showing up. I felt so disrespected and treated so poorly even though I had made reservations and showed up in time. The food was OK, but the hostess was so rude that I will never recommend this place or go back - not worth getting mistreated by an awful hostess.
Wonderful atmosphere, however, the food falls short.
For instance, grilled asparagus had good flavor, but they were not prime stalks, they were small and spindly. The grilled prawns were not even prawns - they were small curled shrimp! And they are listed as an entree, but they come with absolutely nothing else... just some small shrimp on a plate. Very disappointing! Worst are the desserts, which have little inspiration. My banana bread sounded great, but it was dried out and after a few bites, I pushed it aside.
This would be a great little place if they stepped up the quality.
Good food good ambience but service is very slow. This is our fourth or fifth time but speed didn’t improve.
Is Zinque under new ownership? Is there a new chef? Both the food and the service have fallen off the cliff.
We celebrated a Birthday belatedly and had a wonderful time
We had a nice dinner at Zinque. There was a good selection on the menu and the food was all good. Our only issue was the salmon on the tartine was a bit chewy. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive.
Seating outside is the way to go at this restaurant. A nice environment, active scene outside, a little noisy on the inside. Service was basic. Tried tuna flatbread and was completely satisfied by the freshness and exquisite flavor
Love the food and love the look and feel of the restaurant.
What a nice change ! You feel as if you are in a cafe in Europe.
Waited quite awhile for the happy hour sausages. Portion size was poor. Bowl of olives and sausages were filled only a third. Cauliflower rice was not even cooked. Found the prices very high for the quantity and quality. With all the dining in Newport I will chose elsewhere.
Food was ok, but definitely not worth the price. Very small portions, Prawns should not be listed as an entree, $56 Sangria pitcher was basically punch loaded with ice.
The food took well over 40 minutes, it was pretty mediocre for a really high price point. The server was super sweet though. Saving grace.
Not kid friendly
Great scene down at Newport lido
Service not attentive enough and food came out at mixed pace & mixed warmth
Branzino was excellent
Steak frites was great
Several other items felt fairly standard even though billed as special eg, Le Bowl
When we walked in, the hostess told us she only had a small table available because of how busy it was. I had made this reservation over a week jn advance so this wasn’t appreciated and although the table was fine, it set a tone for the meal. The restaurant was out of 5 or 6 dishes, which was also irritating. The service was a little slow. Otherwise, the food & ambiance were good.
The ambiance and view are amazing! Our server was also very attentive and kind. What’s surprising is the food was average. We ordered a few different items from the small plates, entree and dessert menu. The fries and dessert were tasty, the rest was bland! I would come back for drinks, but skip the dinner.
Good food & good view!
We eat at Zinque often and the food never disappoints! Everything we've ordered has been delicious, we enjoy the choice of wines and the staff is always friendly and helpful. LOVE the location!
The cauliflower was tasteless and charred. Mussels were bland. The steak and frites were also tasteless, and overpriced. Chimichurri sauce covered only a small piece of the already small $30 steak.
Too sad to see an well located restaurant serve such poor cuisine.
Great food and service!
This is NOT a dinner centric foodie destination. I've been to Zinqué nearly a dozen times for breakfast, brunch and lunch. This was the first time for dinner and what a major disappointment as far as the cuisine-almost embarrassing to our party of 10 guests who was expecting a great meal because I had spoken so highly of Zinqué. Service was great, location great HOWEVER avoid the dinner entrees! Two at the table (me being one of the two) had the prawns and they were extremely salty to the degree of being inedible, likewise with the soup; chicken entree was dry (overcooked). Desserts (we had one of each) were okay. Our waiter was so nice that we chose not to say anything. In retrospect, we should have said something considering the price point.
Delightful unpretentious French cuisine. Delicious Pate de Maison, Alsacean flatbread and cherry clafoutis. Lively crowd on a Sunday which filled the room with chatter and good vibes. Looking forward to coming back on a warm day and enjoying the patio
