Zåtar Lebanese Tapas & Bar
OK so in COVID times, this was a birthday dinner for my son, stuck doing college at home with his parents. He wanted Shawarma, he thought, turns out he was confusing terms and wanted Gyros meat. OK at Zatar they have both.
We started with the family Mezze platter. Sadly for Zatar we are old hands at this kind of food and had a regular table at Ali Baba on Greenville. Zatar did not compare well. The platter has two kinds of hummus. Neither was outstandng, the spicy one is just hot, better to give customers a choice and put something less repetitive on the plate. Pita that came out was cut, dry and cold. Not like the warm, soft pita we prefer. Cutting Pita ahead of service will dry it out guys, lets put more time into service. The falafel was unremarkable, and the sauce for it tasted wierd- perhaps recycled from a prior day? Hope not but that was our impression. Cheese straws are too salty to eat, really. Better to get rid of them, add some good pickles, fresh tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, and some Baba Ganoush. That would create some good bites better than dry falafel and too salty cheese straws.
We only ordered 2 entrees for 3 people. Gyro meat was obvoiusly frozen sliced, and was dry, brown all through, and not tasty. I am from Chicago so this was an obvious gaffe. Gyro should have some pink or at least not shoe leather brown meat and some juice. Chicken was dry as the day is long. THe server complicated this by failing to bring the sauces, and then doing a disappearing waiter act so by the time we found him and got it corrected, the food was lukewarm. More dry pita and dry rice.
Oh for the days we spent at Ali Baba eating chick tawoush that was buttery, lemony, and beautiful on pita after pita of soft, warm bread. Gryos to die for.
Then the BILL came. So 3 glasses of wine, 36 dollars for avg. cab, one appetizer plate at 29 dollars, and two entrees at 19 each, 38 dollars. the tab was 133 dollars for 3 people. Ugh. No return for us.
We are always in the mood for good Mediterranean food and Zatar did not disappoint. This was our first, but probably not last visit! Thanks
The food was really good. Me and a friend shared several dishes. The drinks were amazing. The only thing that would have increased the experience would have been seeing the server more. There would be long periods of time where we wanted to order additional things and had to wait. There were two large parties present so we figured that would be the case. Would go back and visit again.
The food was 3.5/5, but unfortunately the service was slow and there was a terrible problem with their sewer line at the bar that just stinks up the place as you're about to sit down and eat. Quite a letdown.
Aside from being out of a few things we tried to order, what they had was very good!
No one would wait on us. Wait staff fighting with each other. Used to love this place. Now, we’ll have to find another place for good Lebanese food.
Perfect in every way!!!
fresh and delicious food. service was friendly and servers were all approachable and seemed to love their job. the grilled salmon and cheese cigars were excellent!
Great food, service and ambience. Will definitely go back.
I freaking love this place! The drinks are amazing and so is the Hookah. Such a great place for Saturday nights. Ask for Lisa because she gives such amazing service
Mediocre at best. Service was the absolute worst. Arrived on-time for our 6:15 reservation. We were seated at first by a table near the restroom in an empty restaurant. I asked for a different table and we were seated closer to the front. 15 minutes later our waiter brought us water. Forty five minutes later, dinner arrived. Moussaka - decent flavor but overloaded with peppers and onions. One piece of eggplant. Hubby had the Gyro platter. His meat was cold and average. Our waiter never asked us if we needed anything or if our meal was good. Then; we had to ask for our bill and ask someone to ask our waiter to come get our credit card. Not a repeat visit will this be.
My husband and I stopped in for a quick bite and to smoke hookah. We started off with hummus and fattoush salad and the hummus was fantastic!! finished off with a pot of tea and knafeh. Roy was our server and was great. He told me a little bit about his background which I enjoyed. Thank you Roy!
Our food was amazing and the service was excellent. We began with the tastiest grape leaves and a gorgeous Labanese Cabernet. Highly recommend sharing the grill platter. The only weird happenstance is that each party was seated right next to each other in a completely open and rather quiet restaurant, so it felt a bit like we were all sharing our stories with one another lol. No big deal nonetheless. The servers were very helpful and gave interesting tidbits on the menu. The food came out fast and seasoned to perfection. Will definitely return!
Food: the hummus was very bland. Didn’t taste like the hummus you find anywhere else. Missing that tahina flavor. Didn’t think you could mess up hummus. We ordered a mixed grill platter. The kefta was delicious. The chicken and sirloin were overly charred losing the flavor of the spices. We ordered the beef medium and came out well done the first time and medium well the next. It was also room temp and it was cool out.
Service: our female server was good. We waited a bit too long for a fresh glass for the refill of wine that was brought to our table in the small carafe. Overall she was good. The manager came out to discuss the food and offered to comp the food and remake the plate. I accepted his offer to get a replacement but didn’t realize we’d still have to pay for it. The food came out warm with better flavor and not just the burnt charred taste.
Overall: there aren’t many menu options. Having lived in Dubai for two years, eating at the best Lebanese restaurants and an avid foodie, I became familiar with the flavors or many entrees and have to say that a lot of flavors were missing. It’s a cool place for drinks or for shisha but no bang for the buck food wise. It was my birthday dinner, first time there and probably won’t return.
Everything was great. The food was delicious. I had the lamb mac n cheese and a gyro wrap. had to get a to-go box. They are not stingy with the drinks either. Nothing was watered down. Absolutely the best Hookah I've had. A little pricey, but well worth it.
The hookah was refreshing, the drinks were well balanced, the food was delectable, the atmosphere was fairly quiet, and our server was very friendly. Overall a great experience. Know that I went on a weekday though. Don't know what the weekend is like there.
Finally!!! Great falafel! Moved to TX a few months ago and have been in search of a new favorite Middle Eastern spot. Tried several items and loved all!
Servers were very attentive. We will definitely be back
Lisa always gives great service she makes the experience fun and enjoyable. Sam the manager is also very funny and always checks on guest. Just such a great experience overall!
Zatar is a hidden gem in Deep Ellum! Some of the most delicious and flavorful food I've ever had and seriously incredible service. Will definitely be back for soon! Absolute must order: cheese cigars.
We arrived and table was ready immediately. It was SO HOT that we requested an inside table instead of outside that we originally requested. We got lucky and we waited less than 5 minutes for indoor seating. The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly! The food was superb!!! Loved everything!
We were expecting amazing food based off the reviews and we did not like it.
The bar service was the worst. Only nine customers in the restaurant and our appetizers arrived before three drinks. Same experience on second round. The waiter was very friendly but would disappear for long periods of time. I had to take check up to the bar to try to pay for the meal and get the hell out of there. I wished the people coming in the door good luck as we left.
I’ll try the Lebanese restaurant in Frisco next
I am so sorry about your bad experience at Zatar, I will address this issue with my staff and make sure this does not happen again.
Outstanding food, service and ambience
Service was great and so was the food. Our drinks were great!
My husband and I enjoyed this for our date night. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options!
The service was phenomenal the ambiance was exactly what we were looking for and the prices are great. Highly recommend!
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect for catching up.
Waitress service NEEDS a lot of improvement on attentiveness and hospitality.
I was already been to Zatar, and every time I went there I had always a great time. The food is amazing, the service is very good and the place is so nice! It was my birthday and they surprised me with a dessert with candle, it’s been incredibly sweet of them! Definitely recommend it!
We went to Zatar for dinner on Valentine’s Day. They had a pre-fixe 3 course dinner menu with choice of 3 shared appetisers, one entree each and choice of one shared dessert.
Cheese cigars were delicious
Hummus was below average especially for a Mediterranean restaurant, being only slightly better than a store brand. The pita bread was pretty disappointing and didn’t taste like it had been frehsly made
Falafel basket- the falafel had the right amount of crunch to it but was a bit salty
Grilled chicken with rice- the chicken was tender and delicious, however the rice was pretty terrible and seemed like it had been microwaved
Rosemary lamb chops - were okay nothing to write home about
Baklava and icecream- the baklava was standard but the icecream was half melted by the time the dish was served
Service- service was surprisingly terrible. It wasn’t the employees fault though, it seemed like they were understaffed that night; the person seating excused himself twice before we were seated, once to take a phone call and once to actually clear another table which you would think they’d have someone else do. The server seemed like he was always in a tearing hurry ( he probably was, the poor man was serving almost all the tables in our section) and would start to walk away even before we finished our sentences. Overall this was an underwhelming experience. Then again, it might be a one off, since it was a busy night (Valentine’s)
Ordered the appetizers which were good. Service was attentive. Not many people dining in the restaurant.
Excellent food and service!!!
Thank you for dealing with my drunk friend. The pan seared salmon with grapes + brussel sprouts was amazing. The place was furnished and decorated so well!
We had a group of 11 for a birthday dinner. Service was good, food was great. Only negative feedback I have is the music was SO loud starting at 8pm. They had a DJ which music was great however it was so very loud for dinner time. I can see it being that crunk starting at 10pm or later but club level sound was more bothersome than fun while trying to eat and socialize with friends.
For some strange reason, I got an email I didn’t attend . I did however attend and despite the email, the restaurant was great.
Probably the best humus I’ve tried. My kids even liked it and they are picky eaters.
I had the sharmwa wrap and my wife had the Cafta Tahini or something like that .. both great .
The chocolate cake was a winner too
The food was really good, especially the upside down Lamb pilaf, Brussel sprouts and Hummus. The patio area had music and hookah. The location is also great. Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family!
Great atmosphere in a good location, lot's going on in Depp Ellum so it's in a good spot. The service is not particularly good, average at best. The food is not good. Very bland, no flavor at all. Not sure what they are shooting for but they served very poor Lebanese or Mediterranean food. The humus and babbaganoush were very, very bland except for the beet humus which was terrible. The falafel was ok as were the dholmas but the chicken shawarma and lamb chops were overcooked and no flavor at all. The Mezza for 4 did not come with pita bread. This place probably won't be around too much longer I suspect, unless they get a new chef and menu.
The atmosphere was nice and our server was very friendly. However, there were multiple organizational issues- we were practically the only ones in the restaurant and were told that there was plenty of a certain lamb dish but after we placed the orders, they were one short for the table. Drinks were delayed, water was delayed at being refilled, and the timing of the courses was off. We waited a while for our appetizers (close to 30 min), which came out in shifts. We had barely started eating them and not even 10 min later, the main course was being served! Dessert was timed a little better but what took the longest were the checks. When we arrived, I mentioned to the server that we would be separate check and she assured me that she was taking “notes to avoid confusion at the end.” Well, it took well over 20 min to get the checks and some were still wrong!
