Young Joni is James Beard award-winning chef Ann Kim's restaurant located in the Arts District of Northeast Minneapolis. The menu is inspired by wood fire cooking and features an array of globally influenced dishes and signature pizzas. Dining Room reservations are offered for dinner and weekend brunch; walk-ins are available at our bar and community table.

Young Joni is the recipient of 2019's James Beard Award for "Best Chef Midwest"; it has been featured in the New York Times and Vogue, and on Netflix's "Chef's Table: Pizza."

Tucked discreetly behind Young Joni is the back bar, serving full and no-proof craft cocktails and pizzas in a warm, analog setting. Esquire named it one of 2019's Best Bars in America and Eater called it an "Essential Minneapolis Bar." Walk down the alley alongside Young Joni and look for the red light; when the light is on, the back bar is open!

Like at her other two restaurants, the Chef's Table star leans on her Korean heritage in must-order dishes like the umami mama pizza with three kinds of mushrooms and chewy rice cakes with a four-cheese sauce and gochugaru. Pair it with cocktails that incorporate a lot of Asian ingredients—there's even a formidable spirit-free section on the menu—and get comfortable in the spacious wood-clad interior that includes front-row seats to the pizza-making action.

    The server was friendly and helpful make for a good dining experience. The menu is creative and interesting. The food was visually appealing and tasted above average. Its a fun place to hang out, have a cocktail or beer and good pizza. Although one must plan ahead for reservations.

    One word - YUM! We had a customer visiting so our group shared a variety of shareables and pizzas. They were all good, but the kicker was the soft serve ice cream with olive oil and sea salt. I went in skeptical but it was so good. Give it a try!

    The Young Joni experience is consistently superb. We don’t get to visit often, but it is always our preferred spot for showing our loved ones what Minneapolis is all about. This restaurant has become a familiar and welcoming place where we can come as we are and be our authentic selves.

    Loved everything we had: cauliflower, ribs, Thai sausage and mushroom pizza (though my daughter thought her cocktail was a bit sweet - something with pineapple in it). One of your waiters who stood at the chef counter (where we sat) was engaging when we asked questions. He even gifted us the Maitake mushroom app and advised we use the remaining butter at the bottom ofr our pizza - delicious. So happy we were able to get in! Our daughter went to school in Northfield and we used to come to Lola every time we visited from Denver. She's in Boston now but we all convened there this weekend and were so excited to try this food I had read about. Kudos! Thank you for helping to make our evening celebratory.

    Great pizza and drinks. We had a wonderful lunch. The servers are attentive and helpful. Two pizzas and a salad was good to share among the three of us.

    We took our family there for our daughter’s 21st Birthday. I told our waitress that we were there to celebrate her 21st but got little reaction from her. It was odd. We struggled to hear her as she was wearing a mask. She also was less than helpful with questions about the menu and drinks. The place and food are great and I’d go back but what a huge downer when we had envisioned an upbeat experience.
