Young Joni is James Beard award-winning chef Ann Kim's restaurant located in the Arts District of Northeast Minneapolis. The menu is inspired by wood fire cooking and features an array of globally influenced dishes and signature pizzas. Dining Room reservations are offered for dinner and weekend brunch; walk-ins are available at our bar and community table.

Young Joni is the recipient of 2019's James Beard Award for "Best Chef Midwest"; it has been featured in the New York Times and Vogue, and on Netflix's "Chef's Table: Pizza."

Tucked discreetly behind Young Joni is the back bar, serving full and no-proof craft cocktails and pizzas in a warm, analog setting. Esquire named it one of 2019's Best Bars in America and Eater called it an "Essential Minneapolis Bar." Walk down the alley alongside Young Joni and look for the red light; when the light is on, the back bar is open!

    Loved dinner at Young Joni on 7/14/2025. In tears thinking that I will never be able to go back to a favorite restaurant. Service was superb! Hope something new will develop with the loss of young Joni. Love Anne Kim's restaurants.

    Our waitress Charlie started off with a smile when we ordered our food but that soon changed. As the time went by she did not go to our table after we asked to see the menu again to order more food. She only went after a long while after we had received our previously ordered food so we decided not to order any more. We would have ordered at least two more dishes. We had to flag her down multiple times to refill our drinks. When we asked for a box for the leftover food she brought out our leftovers wrapped in aluminum foil. I specifically asked for a box. When we asked for the check she further demonstrated a poor attitude and walked away. We ended up going to the bar to get her to ring us up. When she took the check from us she did it in an aggressive manner and threw it onto the counter. She then proceeded to talk to her coworker at the bar about us. It was clear because her coworker looked at us as they were speaking and shook her head. When I went to them to ask for our servers name again to write this review they looked at me like I had three heads or something. What should have been a nice family Sunday lunch turned into the worst experience ever in any restaurant we’ve been to. My husband and I loved going to Young Joni’s. For the first time ever we decided to take our baby to taste the food we enjoyed before their arrival to this world. I know they’re closing and they probably don’t care about our experience but I’m writing it because I was left in tears after this. It’s already hard to leave my house to go out with my family and I thought going here would be pleasant but it’s was the opposite. I definitely won’t be back. I just wish we had never gone to Young Joni’s. I wish I would have picked a different restaurant to dine in today. So anyone who’s taken the time to read this today thank you and just be aware that not everyone who works there is kind.

    Our server, Tess, was so personable and fun and just all around terrific! Plus the food and vibes are always top-notch at Young Joni! We're going to try to get here one more time before they close in September (I weep at the thought).

    Yong Joni is fabulous! Too bad they are closing in September 2025 due to lease agreement not being reached. If you have time to go before September, it is so worth it. FABULOUS!

    Overrated for the prices they charge. You can get the same quality from Punch Pizza for about 40% less than YJ charges.
