Great businesses recognize it’s all about people. No matter your line of work, whether you’re an electrician, doctor, dentist, attorney or a manager at a restaurant, you are working with and for people. Treating people with kindness and respect is equally as fundamental to your success as what you’re selling.
When it comes to food, there has always been something wonderfully cohesive about experiencing food with good people. Conversely, when the people serving you in a restaurant lack honest compassion and attentiveness, even the best of food can taste unpleasant.
This past Saturday six of us 50-something professionals set out to have an enjoyable night of food and friends. We started at Travail Kitchen and Amusements (delightful!) We then decided to go on an impromptu pizza (not pub) crawl in the local area. Pig Ate My Pizza (perfect!); Pyscho Suzi’s (wonderful!), and then … Young Joni.
We arrived at Young Joni at 10:30pm. Closing time is 12:00pm. We entered and were pleased to see the restaurant was only 25% full. Yes! No waiting! We are in! This night is going famously! Well, it was. But now, there is a bad apple who is going to ruin the bunch (our night). Read on.

Dan’s first explanation as to why they were treating us with uncaring brashness? “You said you only wanted to come in for drinks.” First of all, that’s not correct. More importantly, YOU JUST TOLD A PATRON THEIR ORDER ISN’T WORTHY OF BEING SERVED!?! (I told you he would confirm our theory as true!)
It’s truly unfortunate this bad apple was able to ruin the bunch (our special evening). Sadly, given the ownerships hiring practices, I cannot recommend Young Joni as an establishment worthy of your time and money.
Owner Ann Kim ~ Corporate advice: Employ the Fish Philosophy in your culture. Your service will then meet and exceed your food.
If you are thinking of going here with a big party, don't bother. I called to try to get a reservation for 12 and they don't do that for big groups. I called that morning to check availability and they said show up and see. We got there and they wouldn't seat partial groups. Server had no desire to help us out at all. So we left. Thanks for wasting our time Young Joni.
Fantastic service, looking forward to going back.
We celebrated my daughter’s graduation! Was a great place for the festivities! All kids loved the photo booth! The food was excellent and great for sharing! I think our favorites was the Korean barbeque and amatriaciana pizzas (we ordered seconds) and the cauliflower! So good!
Perfect meal! It started with the perfect server and was followed by the delicious meal, timing was impeccable.
Celebrated our sins’s college graduation with three generations. Amazing food, flavors and service. A perfect evening for celebration of family accomplishment and love.
Loved everything about YJ! Great vibe with music, people and setting! Only drawback was the distance from our house to YJ! 40 mins away!
Love love love this place
Fantastic in every way
Amazing, amazing, amazing and worth the wait! Everything from the appetizers to dessert was perfection. Great ambiance - I'll be back!
Food was great! We had the Korean BBQ pizza and the Clam Pizza. Both were very, very, very good! The Korean BBQ had a heaping portion of arugula on it, which really enhanced the flavor of the bbq. The peppery flavor made it sooo much better. The clam pizza was not what I was expecting. It was a garlic and sweet tasting clam pizza. Some might misread this as a weird flavor but it is remarkable! A must try. The vanilla ice cream with olive oil I was skeptical of and was proven correct, IMO. My wife loved it and thought it enhanced the vanilla flavor. I thought the olive oil enhanced the salty flavor of the ice cream, which I usually like, but didn’t go well with vanilla.
It was a fabulous evening of great food!! Everything was perfect and we will be back soon(or as soon as we can get a reservation) haha
Loved it. Wait staff were great. Food was solid. Atmosphere was attractive. Very solid.
We love the cauliflower and will likely order it every time. We tried the Japanese sweet potatoes, and while it was unique, the flavors were a little imbalanced. The potatoes were substantial and cooked to perfection, but they were topped with just a few too many fish flakes. The smell reminded me of my childhood, feeding our family fish.
We also recommend the pizza. This time, we tried the Amatriciana. It was tasty. My only qualm was the ingredients were chopped to finely to really differentiate or appreciate each for what they were.
To end, the soft serve is always delightful. This time we tried it with olive oil and sea salt. Yum.
Fantastic pork belly and clams!
Everything was just perfect. We had the cauliflower appetizer and it was delicious! We enjoyed a pizza and it might have been the best pizza I’ve ever had.
Amazing unique dishes - the cauliflower is a must. Just wish it wasn’t so hard to get reservations
Best food in town. Interesting, tasty, fresh, special!
Excellent service, delicious food, and a creative atmosphere.
Great night with friends. Birthday. Really tasty food (pizza and kale salad). Good service. Had a super time. Would recommend and also return soon.
Great pizzas and beer! Also Korean beef barbecue! Tables have large box supporting them and it hits your knees! Opt for table around outside edge without box!
Love the food and atmosphere here. Will definitely be back many more times!
As always, consistently amazing. It is honestly worth waiting a few months to get in. Everything is so good, including the drinks.
Anniversary dinner for 10. Great food, drinks and service! Fun photo booth pic!
The cauliflower is amazing. I have it every time!
Great service and food. Pizza was excellent.
Heard this was good, and it truly is! Enjoyed several appetizers and a couple delicious pizzas. Fun to share plates. I recommend getting a reservation. Staff was awesome.
Favorite restaurant for over a year now! Everything is delicious. Can’t go wrong with anything
One of my favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities!
We had curried cauliflower, pork belly, Basque pizza, and Korean BBQ pizza. My favorite was the cauliflower. As an Asian food enthusiast, I was a little disappointed with the pork belly and Korean BBQ. I like this restaurant for its creative food and cocktails. A nice, casual night out.
Food is exceptional especially the roasted vegetables but so loud. It seems to be the way things are in trendy restaurants. Would return for the food. Wish there were a few more choices in red wines by the glass.
We try to visit as much as we can...love this place...perfect feel and perfect food...all in all a wonderful experience...
Best pizza and back bar in town! Our favorite spot for incredible food and ambiance!
Pizza wonderful, especially La Parisienne, the beet salad is wonderful, I would go just for that, which I did. Our server was excellent. Just a special place👍👍
We asked our server to order for us. We gave her a few restriction and she surprised us with each entree. It was a really fun way to experience a new restaurant where everything on the menu looked so yummy. Everything was delicious!
Young Joni has a beautiful design and decor, welcoming and comfortable, yet elegant. R staff are very attentive and the food is creative. Loved it.
What an amazing space with excellent food and cocktails. Cannot wait to return.
Young Joni is a bit expensive, but I also feel like it's worth it. I've been twice now and enjoyed everything we have had.
The cocktails are delicious. For food you must try the Japanese potato, cauliflower, confit mushrooms, & the pepe pizza!
Pizza is awesome, very nice cocktails, and excellent service
We went to Young Joni for my boyfriend's birthday and it was amazing. Our spot was ready right at the reservation time and we were seated at the bar right in front of where the chefs were making some of the dishes. It was fun and added to the experience. Our waiter suggested a great bottle of wine which we enjoyed, and the Korean BBQ pizza was wonderful! Will definitely be back to Young Joni.
