Yasu - Sushi Bar
Such an amazing dinner experience at Yasu. Everyone was so courteous, attentive, and informative. Everything was above expectations.
Food is just okay. Just feel it’s overrated.
The only complaint is that the sushi chef who served my section was a bit stingy with the rice. The rice is very important. He asked if we were ok with the amount to be fair but I almost felt it would be rude to ask for more. This is a very minor issue and in a way giving less rice really made the freshness of the fish more apparent. However getting to eat sushi rice prepared the real way is not something we get to experience much in this city and as such I would have liked to get pieces as big as the other diners ( my section was getting noticeably smaller pieces).
Amazing food, nice peaceful atmosphere. Love the intimate small space. Chef was friendly and serviced us well.
Amazing Omakase!! Omakase means "I will leave it to you" and you will be happy you did! Not only was the 20 (!) courses unique (lime zested Lobster Nigiri??) but they also do a very nice job explaining the fish. They even bring out an iPad and explain the three types of Tuna you are having from lighter to the every-so-tasty fatty tuna. Pricey for sure, but worth every penny for a special occasion.
We had such a great time. Went for our anniversary dinner for the second year in a row and Yasu still didn’t fail to disappoint! We may have to keep going back every year for our anniversary just because it’s so consistently delicious and always such a great experience!
Our 30th anniversary dinner. Food was good and fresh but no wow factor. Ambience was great but seatings were a little tight. Felt the sushi chef lacked the touch of interaction/communication with the patrons and the process of making and serving omasake was a bit mechanical.
excellent quality
Absolutely delicious. Authentic cuisine comparable to a Michelin star restaurant experience that I had in Osaka last year.
Lots of talk about around the price of this place. They aren’t trying to be your everyday meal, and with that considered I’m extremely satisfied with the price and food. Each course costs about $8 and for the quality of fish you’re receiving, I find it extremely reasonable. The staff seems like they are genuinely passionate about what they serve. I had an amazing experience and would definitely go back at some point.
The food off the chef's menu for my visit was exquisite. The service was great and the chef was a great personality and elite in his execution in preparing my food.
Best sushi I have experienced in Toronto. Not particularly a great date place as it's super quiet and everyone can hear your conversation. If you want quality sushi, this is a must try.
I made a reservation for my boyfriend’s birthday because he has been obsessed with Omakase. This was the best sushi experience we have ever had. It was so amazing watching them prepare the food, and they made a point of interacting and engaging us throughout the meal. We opted to do the sake pairing as well, which was incredible. They brought out 5 different sake which paired with the courses, and gave us a little background info about each one. Truly worth the price, and we cannot wait to go back!
AMAZING food and experience! Me and my husband loved it!
Just an awesome experience, an authentic Omkase experience in Toronto
The sushi chef gave me a broken piece of eel (he hid the broken piece under a towel) and the sea urchin sushi among other items did not seem as fresh as the first time I came here. I came for a friend's birthday and requested for something special. All they did was stick a candle on ice cream that everyone else got too. Furthermore, the sushi chef asked us if we wanted an extra piece of tamago and charged $7 for that. A bit disappointing compared to my first visit. Probably will not come back again. Will try other Japanese omakases.
It's a pricey meal but by far the best sushi, eating experience, and service I've ever had! They seat 12 people at the bar and there is one sushi chef per 6 people, so you get a very intimate experience and if your table mates are social it's a great experience to meet new people and talk directly with the chef.
The sake tasting was just OK, not a must.
I will be going back for a special occasion in the future!
Great omakase experience best to be enjoyed at the sushi bar. Would do it again!
Probably the best sushi meal I’ve ever had. Truly outstanding.
The rice appeared tinted, more than one would expect from cooking with kombu. It’s possible it had some residual bran. Regardless, whatever the difference, it gave the rice a nice tooth, a noticeable umami and made the grains more individuated. Everything was near body temperature, this is the great thing about sushi that’s consumed immediately after being made. Cold numbs your sense of taste, preventing you from experience the complete flavour profile. The selection of fish was incredibly diverse, artfully prepared. The chef took the time to striate each piece of fish with his to tenderize it. Nikiri was brushed on moments before consumption. The food was exceptional, bravo.
What a fantastic dining experience! The preparation & presentation was so wonderful. The food and sake parings were outstanding. I can’t wait to go back! Pricey but well worth it for a special occasion. Delicious.
Outstanding Omakase sushi bar experience. Traditional selections as well as things you’ve never tried before. Amazing service and ambiance as well.
The best sushi experience I have had in my lifetime
We had the most amazing experience! We chose to sit at the bar, and my partner and I personally loved being able to interact and chat with our sushi-chef. The explanations that came with the pairing sakes were also quite nice, for a non-sake drinker like myself.
The fish was fresh, all the sushi selection was exquisite, and the ambiance was one perfect for a date or catching up with friends. I would definitely recommend!
It was a superb experience unlike any I'd had previously. The chefs were very skilled and informative, and the front of house very knowledgable and welcoming. It's a steep price, but for a very high-end and rare experience.
Yasu is as close as Toronto gets to Sukiyabashi Jiro, the famed Michelin Star sushi restaurant in Tokyo; the restaurant in the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi.
It is an omekase, reservations only establishment. There is no menu. There are no rolls. There is no soy sauce or wasabi or ginger to drown out the spectacular flavors of each dish. The restaurant is small, seating only 12 at the bar. There are no decorations. It is, quite simply, serious sushi served in its purest form with impeccable service and attention to detail. They will ask if there is anything you don’t like, however.
The fish is, quite simply, the freshest I have ever had, and the uni (usually a borderline edible sushi), was so fresh, and tender and without fishy taste, that I wish I could have had several more pieces. The scallop was out of this world.
If you choose the sake pairing (another $65), you get four outstanding pours (maybe 5?), each one delicious and fresh. Highly recommended!
Fun Omasake experience - as long as you are good with not having control over what you get - this is an amazing meal! All Fresh and seasonal. Every course was great, right down to the black sesame ice cream for dessert. Tried sushi I've never had before...interesting and delicious and a show to watch them make each piece for you. Sit at the bar for sure!!
We were there a few years ago and was good. Then, the 2nd and 3rd time was not as good.
But this time, after a 3 years pause, it was surprisingly good. Unusual kind of seafood.
Can't go wrong with Yasu. Make sure you sit at the bar for the full experience. Very intimate ambiance. Would highly recommend for a special occasion.
Food was phenomenal! It's my third visit at this restaurant and their quality of food is always top notch! Great for special occasions.
Hands down the best sushi dinner I have experienced.
This is an AMAZING place. Sublime food, drink and service. It is VERY traditional and most of the fish is from Japan. So fresh and cut exquisitely. In it’s own way, it was like going to the French Laundry...a once in a lifetime experience. Very special occasion for someone who would appreciate amazing, traditional Japanese sushi experience. And not cheap!
One of the best sushi place in Toronto.
I will come back for sure
We thoroughly enjoyed Yasu. It hit all of the marks for a great dining experience. It offered a nice sampling of different types of sushi, both local fish and fish from Japan. All in all, worth repeating.
Everything was fantastic!
I would definitely go back to Yasu when I visit Toronto.
Probably the best sushi I have ever had in Great Toronto Area
Very good value for what you could get.
Best Omakase I had up to now.
food: way too Much food. i suggest you offer different menus with different number of courses or shrink your menu and lower the price.
ambience: there were 2 tables where guests had no contact and engagement with the chef.
overall, outstanding experience!
It was very good and worth the money. I recommend to everyone!!!!!!!
