Perfect food and service!!
Still one of my favorites!
Excellent service and delicious food. One of our favorite spots in Honolulu.
Great food and service
The food was amazing and the service was good!
This is one of our absolute favorite restaurants on island! The food is always amazing, and we love to watch the chefs grill it over the coals they import from Japan. Everything is always cooked to perfection and seasoned amazingly. Service is always amazing, and one of the owners, Robert, is very hands on and always available to explain the menu or check that guests are having a good experience. Whenever friends come from the mainland, we always bring them here to show them on of Oahu's best restaurants
Excellent Yakitori - tasty, high quality, authentic yakitori. Plenty of creative, delicious dishes as well. Great ambience & service.
definitely over expected, food quality is not consistent; some of them are over salty while others can't taste any flavor.
No doubt they are the best Yakitori restaurant in Hawaii.
Waiter did not allow u
This is the best yakitori I ever had in my life! It was hard to get a table, but definitely worth waiting and I’m so glad I dined here!
Came here for the first time and it did not disappoint !
We went for a dinner and loved the ambience and friendly staff. They also had covid vaccine or negative test requirement, which made us feel safer taking our masks off while eating.
A few things that would've made our experience better:
- Seafood chawanmushi: has truffle in it, which wasn't mentioned in the menu. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I don't like truffle- so I think it would be great to list "truffle" as an ingredient in the menu itself.
- Service: really friendly staff, but we had to flag them down to make our first order. They're probably short-staffed, so I totally understand and think it's a small improvement they can slowly make
- King crab leg: a bit on the salty side, and came with a side of salt(!)
With that said, we fell in love with:
- the goma (sesame) pudding dessert
- the softness & flavor (minus the truffle) of the chawanmushi
- watercress salad with goma dressing (so refreshing)
- how friendly and fun the staff were
Thanks for having us!
Robert and his staff are amazing. They have followed covid protocols and we feel good about that especially with the growing numbers.
2nd time dining here -gotta say having open table app to set alerts is genius and I must say this is how I got our reservations today
Top skewer selections
Pork Belly with the Ponzu is the best
Wagyu 5 is the 2nd best
Tsukune and Sukiyaki go hand and hand because of the egg yolk. (My sons favorite)
We can go on and on about every single item that we tried but to be honest with you everything is amazing
Owner was very unwelcoming with his comment about Hawaii loosening restrictions too soon and implying tourists are the cause of Hawaii’s covid numbers.
first time but very nice experience. going to come back again
Great food and service
An amazing experience. The food was incredible. Service was extremely attentive. The owner came by to each table to check in which I really appreciate. The only con was that last call for food was at 9pm on a Saturday night. We had an 8:15pm reservation so we felt pretty rushed and were sorry we could not take our time and enjoy our experience a bit more.
Awesome food and service! Will definitely come back!
The food was wonderful in terms of appearance, tastes and quality. We are sitting outside so it was hard not to hear the noises of the buses, cars and pedestrians or smelled the exhausts of the cars. They tried hard to enclosed the outdoor sitting area but we hope we can be seated inside without those disturbances and truly enjoy the tastes of gourmet food.
Great food, good service and outdoor setting. Enjoyed it
A gem. Food is elegantly presented, seasoned perfectly and of the highest quality. The whole experience of dining there is very memorable. The management, owner and the restaurant staff are of high caliber and as a customer I feel very much appreciated and cared for.
Japan ambiance. Authentic flavors from Japan. Attentive service
Everything was perfect. Thanks so much.
We were celebrating our 41st anniversary! My husband loved the quail eggs because it reminded him of our trip to Japan..
Robert the managing partner was so amazing :)
Wonderful experience! Will definitely come back!!
A truly unique and wonderful dining experience in Honolulu. You are welcomed into an open space restaurant, with a long firepit on the right and the chef working the charcoal. Drinks menu was good and they have draft beer on hand. We settled in with drinks and looked forward to a night of “food on a stick”.
The menu has many choices, which may seem overwhelming. Instead of thinking too hard on what to eat, I just chose two of every kind (we were a larger party and the server assured us most folks eat 5-6 yakitori). The morsels come out perfectly cooked, bursting with flavor. Some were more adventurous, like the chicken liver. The chicken heart was hearty (ha!), but everyone’s favorite were the chicken thighs — juicy and flavorful. We kept ordering up more of those we liked better. We also ordered a few items from the specials sheet, including the wagyu beef. Be warned, though, that it was pricier than the other items (but oh so good). We rounded out the meal with a few chicken ramens (served in a special container!) and side dishes.
Chatted a bit with a gentleman, who turned out to be Robert, the managing partner. Told us about the origin of the chicken (local to Hawaii, so really fresh) and why the wagyu they used was more tender (it’s from Japan, not a simile from the mainland). Even sent to the table some seasoned cabbages as an in-between course palate cleanser. Exceptionally friendly gentleman.
Overall, even though each yakitori is not expensive (wagyu beef being the exception), because of the flavor and portion size, you may end up eating quite a lot. Dinner can add up to quite a bit, but given the experience, worth it to me. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great dining experience (or just an upscale yakitori dinner).
The atmosphere is very unique and special. The staff were wonderful and the food was delicious! Highly recommend!
Great food & service! Parking was very easy as wel
Food is amazing as always and the service is outstanding. Our favorite restaurant in Oahu.
New item we tried, the King Crab Summer Roll was absolutely delicious. Hope they continue to bring out new dishes.
It was such a good experience, got to meet the owner. He was so nice and hospitable. I would recommend this to anyone coming to Honolulu.
Every single thing we ate was delicious and the service there was amazing! We had so much fun!
Unique. Fantastic flavors especially on the seafood. Not enough seafood on the menu.
Epic dinner! The wagyu was buttery and oiishi and great sake recommendations. Uni shooters stole the show. Had to reorder. Cannnot wait to go back!
Wonderful experience. Truly recommended!
My experience was amazing. The service was outstanding, and the owner even came out periodically to check in on us and make sure everything was ok. The food was also some of the best I’ve ever had, with great variety ranging from an assorted seafood bisque to beef short rib (although the chicken was my favorite). I also felt like the pricing was very good and I would definitely recommend the Hachibei’s Special Course. If you are in Honolulu and looking for an exquisite dining experience you should definitely check out Yakitori Hachibei.
Amazing experience, one of the best restaurants we’ve been to in a while.
