What the heck happened? We arrived for our dinner reservation to find it was closed for a mechanical issue. No call no email no warning. Very disappointing !!
Made reservations on OpenTable (via Xavi's own website) only to show up and see a sign taped to the front door saying they were closed. Not sure whose fault that was but you guys need to get it together. Maybe consider updating your site (and your OpenTable listing) so people don't waste time and gas like my wife and I did.
Probably should stop taking reservations for a closed restaurant! Doors closed and locked, phone disconnected! Very disappointing as we were really looking forward to it.
Sign on door said closed for business. Unable to try an rate
When we got to the restaurant it was closed. There was a sign on their door that they were closed due to mechanical issues, yet they never let Open Table know that they would not be opened. In addition, we had called the restaurant prior to our arrival and there was not a message on their answering machine either to indicate the closure. Very disappointing and poor customer relations.
Unable to fairly review this restaurant as it was closed the night of our reservation. We were not informed of this until we showed up and say the sign on the door.
Xavi was closed due to "mechanical problems", but we and other patrons who showed up for our 7pm reservations were not notified of the closing. It was very disappointing. Someone from either Open Table or Xavi Restaurant should have taken the initiative to notify us. It put a damper on my wife's birthday celebration for us and other family members.
I was a bit disappointed this time. This was my 3rd time here for dinner. One other time for Sunday brunch. Chicken was too salty. Sisters chicken was the same. Beef dish too salty. Service great but a bit heavy with the salt.
New menu, new delicious menu, new server, all worked well. Thank you Kara, thank you Chef Michael ❤ for making our anniversary dinner special.
This is our second time at Xavi, and we were not disappointed either time. The menu is interesting and diverse. We generally prefer small plates so we can taste and share several things, and this restaurant works well for this. We will definitely go again.
The food at Xavi is always amazing and frequently changing. Every time we go there’s something new on the menu, with a new beer and/or wine to pair with it!
Big Hits (THIS IS A WINNING MEAL):
—Red wine: PRIORAT, Bluegray, Catalonia, Spain
—Chilled corn and buttermilk soup with arugula, mushroom and grilled corn
—Crispy chicken with pecorino potato cake, shaved asparagus, basil vinaigrette
—Miso caramel pudding with sesame tuile
Sad Misses (this is a losing meal):
—roasted lamb ribs, cilantro sauce, fresh mango (essentially gobs of fat)
—lettuce salad with dressing (not sure which one, but it was unremarkable)
—risotto with English peas, mushrooms and parmesan (risotto was underdone)
—banana cream dessert (unworthy of the last bite; didn’t eat even half of it)
We shared everything, so neither of us went home hungry. If you order the HITS noted above, you’ll go home happy.
The biggest disappointment of the meal was the lamb. It could have been so good. Two of the 3 ribs I tried to eat were virtually all white fat. Inedible. I said something to the server & she said “yeah, they’re pretty marbled.” Marbled in my world means meat with veins of fat. Not fat with bits of meat.
The crispy chicken was salty but oh so flavorful. The soup was fabulous. The miso pudding was a nice end to the meal.
Service is very good. Prices very reasonable. Would go again & order from my HITS list.
Great food and love the neighborhood feel.
The food was good but service very slow. Out of a number of things on food and wine menu. Most uncomfortable bench seating- not a relaxing experience. Felt like I was eating with the table next to us. Sat along the long wall. Just doesn’t feel anything different than first course. Sorry!
Wonderful experience all around, will definitely go back!
Really thoughtful ingredients created excellent dishes. Felt like an expensive meal, but each dish was quite reasonable in price. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would come here all the time!
Seated right away when arrived. Wine selection was good. Appetizer was excellent. MUST try the pork belly. The cheese plate was great. Our entrees were tasty but were served almost room temperature which downgraded it from 5 to 4 stars. A nice joint that is slightest over priced but has some good surprises.
Although we have dined here often, this was our first Xavi Sunday Brunch. Great food and attentive service.
My SO and I are vegan. We went to Xavi once before and requested a vegan menu and they did a very nice job. In addition, the service was fantastic. We returned with friends, and again, they happily accommodated our vegan diet. However, the service was really lacking this time around. When our entrees were served, everyone at the table had an empty wine glass. Such a disappointment to let our food get cold while we waited for our serve to arrive so we could order wine.
All three of us enjoyed our meals-from the salads to the entrees and delicious desserts. The service was great-the food choices were well-described and wine recommendations excellent.
Cute place but we had pretty bad service. We ordered the cheese plate and it literally came on a small plate with no bread or crackers. We didn’t know how to eat it with the jam it came with because there was nothing to spread it on. We did request bread and they eventually brought some. After waiting a while for the server to come back and take our order for entrees, we had to stop her and ask her to take it. It then took almost an hour for us to get the one plate we ordered. By that point our glasses were empty and she never came back and asked us how our meal was or if we wanted a refill on our coke and wine. The pork was delicious!
We were super excited to try Xavi after hearing about it from others but we were really disappointed in the service and unfortunately won’t be going back. I hope others have a better experience than we did.
We have been to Xavi several times and this time we’re celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. My husband surprised me by inviting four other couples and we had such an amazing time.
As always the service was flawless and the food outstanding. Several of our friends went up to let the Chefs know how delicious and creative our food was. Great job Xavi!
The food (pasta and burger special) was terrific.
I found Xavi on Insta! The food looked great and when I checked out the menu it was very seasonal. It is located in kind of a no-mans-land part of South MPLS. So it is kind of a destination and if you sit outside expect airplanes. But I liked the patio and loved the food! It was seasonal, creative and well executed!! Service was lovely as well!
Awesome as usual
we've only eaten there twice but both times great service, wonderful food, nice wine, a bit pricey for a spur of the moment dinner out, but not overpriced for quality served. The Carmel miso dessert was outstanding!
Wonderful find ini terms of skill of the wait staff, the food, uniqueness. Non-descript store front. I would recommend doing something about the store front.
I looked back and noticed I never commented. This place is the real deal. The manager (owner too, maybe) knows wine, food, etc. and is always very nice. The food is always delicious. Thoughtful but never ridiculous or overly precious. But it is seasonal, well-planned, and intriguing. Can't wait to go back.
Nice neighborhood restaurant. Will dine here again to support local businesses.
Always a wonderful meal and the staff are so friendly! It’s a neighborhood gem!
Perfect mothers day brunch. The set menu was subtle but deliscously flavoured. The desert was the perfect end to brunch.
I was enamored with every single dish. Incredible experience!
Wonderful dining experience.Great food,fantastic service,will be back!
Especially ejoyed the crispy chicken in the 3 course meal. Glad we came.
Pleasant staff, relaxed atmosphere and wonderful food.
Amazing staff slightly overshadowed by the perfect menu. Highly recommend for any night out... will be back to talk with charismatic staff and oh so delicious small plates
We have been to Xavi 3 times since it opened, and when we sat down, the waiter said "we haven't seen for a while! Welcome back! It was really lovely to be remembered. The service on our 3rd visit was as lovely as the first 2 visits, and the food was AWESOME. Fresh ingredients, good portions, perfectly presented!
Xavi is a favorite neighborhood bistro with wonderful small dishes, (spicy mango salad and lamb ribs) and excellent entrees (halibut special served on Israeli couscous). There is really no better fine/bistro dining at this price point --or price points much higher than Xavi's! There is a nice wine selection, well priced, with help from the staff if you need it. The service is super friendly and efficient, with a very nice patio, opening soon! Try the tasting menus.
The quality and presentation of the food was wonderful, as was the service. We both had the three course option, with the starter, entree, and dessert, and thought it was a great value. The wine list really complemented all the dishes on the menu, and we love the option of the 4oz pour, so you could try a couple different wines with dinner. All in all, it was a memorable dinner--and on a weeknight!
I was very excited to try this new restaurant in our neighborhood. My husband and I met another couple there for dinner. Since the couple we were meeting had to arrange a babysitter for the night, we made sure to make reservations. Our reservation was at 7:45pm and when we arrived, we were informed that our table wasn't ready so we sat at the bar. It took 10-15 minutes for us to get a drink at the bar and we were not seated at our table until 8:40pm! No apologies were given - at the very least they could have said sorry or comped a round of drinks. The couple we were with had to call to make arrangements with their babysitter since the wait was so long. It was also extremely hot in the restaurant - to the point that halfway through dinner my husband had to step outside to cool off. Food was good but based on the rest of our experience, not good enough to return:-(
